I had a very bad experience here and would never go here again. First off, I have five cars (mine and my daughters) and for many years have always brought my cars here for smog testing, with great results. I know a lot about cars, so no newb here either. I scheduled an appointment, had to wait a week, but figured it was worth it, loyalty and all. I showed up for my appointment today, just before my registration is due, and was told "you didn't get the message, your appointment was cancelled"! What?? I said I had an appointment, did not get any cancellation message, and need to get my car smogged today, so the lady went to talk to the owner and he said OK, he would smog the car. I handed her the coupon, same as always, and was told sorry, we are not taking any coupons. No warning, no info when i made the appointment. etc. It would be almost $50, more than I have ever paid for a 15 minute smog check. Up against the wall, I said OK. He hooks up the car, I wait around, and 15-20 minutes later the girl comes and says my car did not pass, that it failed the evap test. I walk over to the car and check the gap cap, all OK, just like new and tight, then I talk to the owner, and he says the same thing, it failed, and the system said it was the gas cap. He also says the engine light was on. Now I filled the car up the previous day, drove a hundred or so miles, and the check engine light was not on when i drove into the lot 15 minutes earlier. So either this was an incredible coincidence that the system failed and the light came on just when I got there, or something else intentional happened. So now my car failed, and this is an Acura that never has had a single problem for the 14 years I have owned it, I had to pay this guy for the test, and now I have to drive it around for a few days before I can take a retest and pay him again. What a total rip off! I checked the system with my OBD reader when I got home, reset the error codes, and got a clean bill of health, all without making any changes. Figure it out for yourself, but the only possible answer is that this was intentional. read more

I paid $80.95 for my smog inspection even though the coupon that I brought in showed that my smog inspection would only cost $44.20. I came in with a Smog N Dash Coupon which clearly states the smog inspection for my 1997 Toyota Camry would cost $44.20, ($35.95 for passenger cars older than 2000 plus $8.25 for the state smog certificate). So, I expected to pay $44.20. Unfortunately, they added a $20 Star Cars Fee, $15 Dyno Fee, and a $1.75 credit card transaction fee. So, I ended up paying $80.95 for the smog inspection, which was $36.75 higher than the price advertised online. I don't like to do business that way. read more

Smog n Dash truly does not care about customer satisfaction. I just got my Honda serviced with a new catalytic converter. The dealer neglected to tell me to drive over 100 miles before getting a smog. I drove 15 miles to Smog N Dash and my car failed. Their coupon said they match competitor's prices. I pointed out that most of the competitors offer a free retest. He said that matching prices only goes for the initial smog test. Yes, I should have made sure re-tests are free. However, if he says he matches prices he should mean it. I told him I would write a bad review....he said he didn't care. I think he was so mad at me that he parked my car as far away as possible for me to retrieve it after the retest. There were plenty of parking places at his business. He parked in somebody else's parking place that had a sign that parking was for that business only or it would be towed. Really. What a spiteful, disgusting man. I will NEVER go back there. For less than $5 more (with a coupon), Horizon Smog on Pacheco in Martinez offers free re-tests. 1 star is too good for the one I chose! read more

I have showed Smog N Dash Coupon which clearly states the smog check would cost $26.95. Then I was told because my SMOG certification is required a STAR station they'll charge $20 more. Coupon clearly didn't say anything like that but I decided to stay anyway. As result my car didn't pass test and they said they will do retest for another $20. Watch out for these guys. I will not take any vehicle here again, and I do not recommend using them unless you like feeling like you are being ripped off. First off, I was quoted $34.95 plus $8.25 on the phone so I decided to give them a shot even though they were not the most convenient place to me. I was told on the phone that $34.95 plus $8.25 certificate filing fee was the everyday price for any vehicle and that I did not need a coupon. I gave them my make and model and I asked twice because the vehicle is older and I know that most places charge more for older vehicles. I ended playing $90, twice what I was quoted on the phone. I had to bring back the vehicle because it had not been driven in a while since putting in a new battery. James told me that I needed to drive it for about 100 miles and bring it back and it should pass. On the second time back after driving the vehicle for 100 miles, it passed because the vehicle had to "reset itself" (according to James) so that meter readings could be taken since it had not been operated for a while. I was charged $50 on my first visit, and $30 to retest plus the $8.25 certification fee and $1.75 to pay with debit. So, I paid $90 when I took it there expecting to pay approximately $43.20 out the door based on what I was told initially on the phone. I'm just saying that I not real happy with these guys because they seem to have inconsistent pricing. For instance, the "internet/phone call pricing" is completely different from what they post on the wall of the shop and is also completely different from what they arbitrarily quote off the top of their head once you are in the shop. Note. I was originally quoted $59 out the door when I brought it in the first time. They charged me an extra $30 to retest after I already paid them $50 the day before when they said they could not take my meter readings because the car had not been driven. Most places retest for free if it does not pass the first time and I thought it was pretty lame of them to charge me and extra $30 for the retest because they could not get the meter readings they needed the first day. I felt ripped off. DON"T USE THESE GUYS. And, please, anyone from SMOG AND GO of Walnut Creek, don't respond with a lame apology/explanation/excuse about the bad experience I had here.....Own it, because you did it. The smog inspection itself was done efficiently and the entire wait was only about 25 minutes. However, the marketing and pricing tactics these guys use are pretty sleazy. I found them using a Google map search and the "rollover" touts $15.95. When you go to their website it is $19.95 with a coupon. When I showed up the owner said $37.95. When I gave him the coupon he said "okay, but there are other fees" and the total came to $37.95. It is terrible that they can get away with such deceptive practices. I got my car smog checked. The tech tells me "congrats, your car passed" charged me and handed me a bunch of papers. I asked him how long it takes to report into the DMV, and he said only a matter of hours. I wait days, and nothing, so I go into the DMV and they said nobody reported I passed a smog check. I look through the papers the guy sent me and sure enough, my car failed on one small thing that is easily fixed. So I call up the shop, and tell them what happened and the different guy on the phone accuses me of purposefully messing with my car computer to cause the problem, tells me he doesn't have time to talk or able to even look up the results of the test on his computer until I told him I had them right in front of my face and would happily read it off to him. Turns out the problem can simply be caused by minor repairs that reset the computer, not by me MESSING with my car. Finally he consented that they'd do a free re-test. Um, no thank you, so rude. Got my car smogged and didn't pass at Smog and Dash. Took it a repair shop, got a new catalytic converter and that same place did a pretest, car passed with flying colors. Went back to Smog and Dash for $10 re-test, all emissions had spiked again and failed. They told me that whoever did the repair probably missed something. I asked how can that be. Went back to the guy who did the repair, he does another test and again passed with flying colors. Frustrated took it to another star smog place down the street, and they tell me that my computer has been reset, i have to wait or drive long distance before car can be tested. Long story short the repair mechanic called smog and dash, and they confessed to having reset my computer on car, which sets you up for your car failing, plus they even said that their smog testing machine was not working properly. Hello, how can they be performing tests if their equipment is inadequate. The repair mechanic told them to refund my money or I would report them to the BAR. Walked in today and got all my money back, so I can take it to get smog at a honest establishment! Never expected to have a happy experience at a smog check, let alone pleasant, but was completely delighted yesterday when these guys completed our check quicker than estimated, prob cause we said we were hoping to finish a DMV transaction within the hour. They were obviously busy but I think because we (including my 6yr old) stuck around in their tiny waiting area, they made a real effort and we got to finish what we were hoping to before everything closed yesterday!! They are also the most affordable place we've seen around and very efficient and courteous. Note the place is waaaay in the back of the road, same driveway as the Pho noodle place.
