My older vehicle ('97 sedan) was in a fender bender while parked on the street. A commercial vehicle damaged my front driver side lights by knocking it loose. It went through auto collision for repairs and they zeroed out the vehicle due to its age; because this was my first car ever, I refused to send it to salvage or donate it. I called around several shops, and Cesar had the best brake and lamp inspection cost at $160 for cars as of 9/26/22. Trucks cost $180. Other shops wanted $180 to $250. I do feel slightly bitter dropping $160 for two pieces of paper after a 3 min block test drive, 1 min lamp inspection, and 1 min brake inspection, but I guess that's the price to pay now. It used to cost $30 a decade ago. Background: My sister's catalytic converter was stolen, and insurance salvaged the vehicle. In order to re-register the vehicle DMV requires a brake and lamp inspection, VIN verification, and smog along with application and fees. The inspection was necessary to check off a box. Experience: Cesar was responsive when I called about pricing. He was recovering from COVID, and couldn't see the car until the following week. I called the following week, and attempted to schedule an appointment later in the day because I work. Although his business hours say 8-5pm he told me 4pm was too late. I asked about 3:30pm, and he said the shop closes then and I could come at 2pm or 9am the following day. I start work at 8am... so it was difficult, and ended up dropping what I was doing and drove over during my lunch break. Another reviewer said he was rude, but I suspect there was miscommunication in language. English does not appear to be his first language, but he's able to communicate well and joked that I was to run the shop while he was out for a test ride, and told me the shop was my home as he filled out paperwork. He did not seem rude to me. I was in and out within 30 minutes mostly because there was someone before me. The inspection itself takes 5-10 minutes, and then another 5-10 minutes for paperwork and payment. Tips: Be sure to do your own pre-inspection before going. He told me to make sure everything works, but didn't tell me what exactly. He will check all of your lights (headlights (low and high beams), tail light, brake lights, reverse lights, turn signals, and license plate light), brake pad thicknesses, parking brake, and test drive the car. Long story short, I have an old pick up that I'm really attach to and it needed some repairs in order to passed the smog. I had different shops to diagnose what was wrong and nobody will really tell me what needed to get done in order to fix the problem with my truck or they didn't seem interested. I found Cesar on yelp and after reading his reviews I decided to give it a try one more time and I'm glad I did. Cesar called me a couple hours after I drop off the truck and said that the truck was fixed, smog and ready to go. I was really surprised so I picked up my truck and I was recommended to fix a few issues that my truck has but they didn't need to get done right away. I'm really happy with the whole experience. Took my car to Cesar twice within the past two months. First visit we stumbled across this place by luck after running around frustrated by many other technicians. After failing my first smog test, other shops were trying to charge double, and saying a super expensive Catalytic converter was the only way to save it (my car is a 1990 Toyota Camry; very puzzling). Being a female and not knowing much about cars, I was led to think this was the only option to pass smog and be able to drive my car again. I was given Cesar's business card by a stranger and it was truly a blessing in disguise. He instantly calmed me down and assured we did not need that expensive, unneeded Catalytic Converter. He promised that with his work guarantees a smog pass; and if not, he would not charge. Sure enough I passed thankfully. I left in full relief and extremely grateful. A month later I noticed smoke coming from under my hood, making me very afraid to drive any further. When looking under my hood, I saw a small hole spewing antifreeze from my radiator. After such a pleasant first experience (even though this is not advertised as a full service auto shop) I knew I could trust Cesar, even just to get his advice on what to do. He instantly saved the day again and guaranteed he could fix it no problem within a day. Cesar is one of the most honest, humble business owners I have ever met. I visited Car Solutions this morning. Cesar did a great job and was very helpful diagnosing the reason why my 1990 Accord failed a smog test. He gave a very honest diagnosis and referred me to a nearby shop that could do the repairs at a good price. Car Solutions provides Star Certified Test and Repair services i.e. smog and test repair for old cars. These services are hard to find. Cesar is the best! After going to several other shops, nobody wanted to do my smog check because it was difficult. I brought him an older van that I was worried would not pass smog. He worked very hard and luckily enough it passed. He recommended me to get a tune up and also to do a pre test next time which can help find problems so you will not fail.
