This food truck was at a winery that I visited. Unfortunately they were unable to serve some items on the menu, but I was able to get the smoked chopped pork sandwich with a side of mac n cheese. OMG, it was so good! I've been looking for good BBQ and mac n cheese and so many places have fallen short. I loved that the pork itself had flavor and didn't need any sauce. Some bites were a tad spicy (I'm a little sensitive to spice) and I could see the red flakes in the meat, but the flavor was so food I ate it all. The mac n cheese was baked cheesy goodness just like I had growing up. None of this noodles and sauce nonsense that so many other places try to pass off as soul food mac n cheese. Was craving some bbq while doing work in the area and they had signs saying best bbq and brisket ever so I decided to try it. Got the meat sampler to try different things. It came with two Rib bones, 3 jerk chicken wingettes, and catfish nuggets. The Rib bones were a nice size but was a bit dry (maybe smoked a little too long?) and barely any sauce on it. It was mainly a dry rub style but seasoning was good. The catfish tasted like it should have been cooked another minute and the breading was extremely thin and odd taste to it, no flavor so used a lot of hot sauce. The jerk wings (wingettes) were very tasty and falling off bone but surprised at size as I'm used to jerk wings being whole wings. Got sides of fries and fried okra. The okra was done perfectly and the fries were good as freshly fried. The price is a bit higher than most bbq places and based on what I got probably won't be back. While the storefront location appears to be closed, SMOKE N THE CITY has a food truck version that I tried today at the Rosslyn Jazzfest. While the brisket was tasty, it was dry and needed more fat or more BBQ sauce. Unfortunately, there was no way to add your own (you could add hot sauce, ketchup or tartar sauce from packets, but no additional BBQ sauce). The Hush Puppies were very dry and badly needed butter or honey (or better yet, honey butter). read more

So, this review is from over a year ago but, I'm pissed because I just found this out. The food was not good and my Mac & cheese tasted like vinegar. The owner said they don't use vinegar in Mac & cheese so there was no reason for it to have that taste. He offered to replace my meal but, i was so disappointed, i never went back. Well, fast forward to last week, I was telling my coworker about my experience and she said "if it tasted sour or like vinegar that means the cheese was bad, probably from them leaving it out or keeping it too long". My review is based on the food solely as I used a delivery service each time. First time I tried the catfish, macaroni and cheese, cabbage, and the banana pudding. Everything was god except the cabbage. The cabbage was tender but lacked flavored. I ended up adding garlic salt to save the dish. The catfish was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The macaroni and cheese was cooked very nicely, and was extremely tasty. The banana pudding was very good as the cookies were soft and the pudding was evenly sweet. On the second time I tried the half pound brisket, the macaroni and cheese, cabbage, and the banana pudding. The brisket was very tender and very flavorful. The macaroni and cheese was great. again the cabbage, however, still lacked flavor, but the garlic salt save the day. read more

$40 for what? I ordered the whiting meal with yams and Mac and cheese. I placed my order at dinner time but for some reason the fish tasted like it was prepared at lunch. It was dry and had the texture of jerky. Very tough, clearly not fresh. My boyfriend had the baked beans and for some reason they resembled refried beans. This food was not good. The pulled pork barbecue was salty and the size of the sandwich was perhaps the size of a dinner roll give or take a few bites. Not even the size of a hamburger bun, and was pre-wrapped in foil although the menu stated cook to order, so be patient And, do not order the 3 bone ribs and expect to get pieces longer than your index finger. I paid for 2 sets of rib only plates, $22. According to the menu, each plate should have had 3 bones. 3 bones for $11 is a bit much but I was willing to pay it until I received my order!! They slipped in 2 regular bones, normal size, but then gave me 2 other smaller end pieces. These end pieces had 2 bones but should have never been considered a "bone". If I had time and if they weren't closing, I would have returned to get my money back. So I ended up with 4 bones for $22. I would never pay that price and will most likely not return because they weren't even that good. The e ds were of course dried up and not meaty at all. I did like the BBQ sauce. New to the area, I'm like bet, let's see if they fuckin with Johnny Boys Ribs on Southern Ave. The sampler consist of 3 wings, ribs, and fried fish of your choice priced at $17. Plus two sides (Mac and Yams) because I wanted to see what they were hitting on. I asked the young lady once I paid, the estimated wait time, about 15 mins. So I figured I go kill some time in the Giant. Giant was packed and the lines was down the aisle. I turned around went back to the store and just was standing around, figuring 15 mins ain't no big deal. Bruh, 15 mins was actually 45!! Mind you, I'm patient but that was pushing it. So the guy comes out, shows me my food, bags it up and I'm out the door. I'm like oh yeah shit probably freshly made. I'm ready to dig in! I pop the mf top in the car. Son, straight trash. You talking about somebody ready to cry. Chicken was cold, ribs was lukewarm, fish was fried so hard the inside was dry. So now I'm pissed. In my opinion, this is a well-meaning black-owned business that may benefit from revising its processes. The food is relatively good, and prices aren't too bad, but the owners/employees tend to visit their frustrations onto customers. Their service is consistently slow and seemly disorganized. I've waited for more than an hour for my order several times and was prematurely offered a refund because the wait had been so extensive. The restaurant is in a good location with little direct competition; they tend to be overwhelmed with orders most of the time I've visited. I mildly recommend this restaurant if you are willing to overlook the owner and some employees' clear frustration when they fall behind in processing orders. I'm hopeful this restaurant will fix its processes and become a permanent staple in the community. I'll try them again soon. read more

Stopped by this place on the way to Giant as the hunger pangs began to set in. I was promptly greeted, informed of the specials, and rang up with no issues. I ordered the Jerk Chicken, Mac & Cheese, and Green Beans. My dining mate ordered the Fried Fish, Green Beans, and Yams. We also tried the Rum and Sweet Potato Cakes, and Banana Pudding. Jerk Chicken had the perfect balance of seasonings and spice. The Fish starts crispy, then absolutely melts in your mouth, and had great flavor. Green Beans and Yams were yummy, and both cakes were super moist and super delish! Banana Pudding with the Chestmen cookies for the winnnnnnnn!!! From cash-out, to serving, it was about a 7-minute wait. Not bad at all. I feel it was reasonably prices for the quality and service, as well. I understand that business are struggling during Covid BUT if you are a restaurant you HAVE TO, HAVE TO get the food right! I've been coming since this place opened up and the food has been downhill from day one. I live in this neighborhood and wanted to give this place a chance since I will travel very far for some good BBQ. 1)Their Sweet Tea is disgusting. Tastes like some of that dark Lipton off the shelf stuff that you avoided as a child. 2)The food was bland or worse not cooked right. My wife said her wings tasted like they were boiled and lightly flavored. I got the catfish and they tasted like they were previously frozen for a long time and then fried. Which by the way, some parts were undercooked! What?!?! My stomach was messed up all night! 3)They don't include cornbread with the meal, you have to pay for this. This is one of the few BBQ places that does this and thinks it's ok. Should be criminal that they do this in Southern Maryland. Real places include the bread. No option for baked beans. 4) They forgot to pack one of the drinks I paid for and they also separate their sides by premium vs regular with a higher cost. Basically nickel and dime the customer. All sides should be same price, other places do this and so should they. 5)Didn't see an option for paying online. Overpriced for the quality of food. 6)I also ordered a BBQ chicken and when I picked up, asked for some BBQ sauce in a small container. The woman working the counter told me that there was BBQ sauce already drizzled in the meat and no need for sauce!!!! Wow, who does that and not offer the BBQ sauce for dipping!!! 7)The fish place on Swan Creek road, not too far from there has better pricing and sides included with their meals. Of, and their sides actually taste right. This place is just one of a few places in the area that gets BBQ wrong. Very good food. The ribs are were good seasoned well not tough, the fish nuggets are really good (crispy, flaky, and seasoned). Jerk chicken was not the hottest, but pretty good in a pinch. The mac n cuz is official. Definitely worth the stop. Food seems to be made to order, so oven style heat beats microwave heat any day in my option. Let me start this review by saying that I do not give one start reviews light heartedly. Today Sunday, June 14th I decided to get some barbecue, on my way into Waldorf MD. I stopped at Smoke N The City hoping to fulfill a craving but left with a distaste for the establishment. I'll start off by saying I payed thirty one dollars for two extremely subpar barbecue plates. I ordered this at 1420 (2:20pm), told that it'll be 15 mins so, I waited... and waited... and waited. I waited in the restaurant for every bit of one hour and seven mins. Let's just say that one more time but with a little bit of authority in our heads. ONE HOUR AND SEVEN MINUTES! Now you're probably wondering Matt why didn't you say something... Well I was acknowledged and the lady that took my order was running back and fourth with one of my plates. After I received my order I didn't receive a sorry. The staff was nice!!! don't miss understand that!!! But I received my plate fifty two mins later than I was told. Now lets get into the food I payed thirty one dollars for 31 DOLLARS. The order was TWO pulled pork plates with two sides. 1.) Pulled pork plate with coleslaw and hushpuppies. 2.) Pulled pork plate with green beans and fried okra. Pulled pork wasn't by its self... it was a pulled pork sandwich. The pulled pork was chopped pork that was drier than the Sahara desert, one the sandwich it looked like a McDonald's hamburger. Context on that is very little meat and a lot of bread. The green beans were a weird texture, more like a mushy green bean (NOT GOOD), I couldn't finish them... The hushpuppies and fried okra were good, no complaints. They were exactly what I thought they were going to be. The coleslaw wasn't the best but not the worst. It tasted like the prepackaged coleslaw you get from the supermarket. Over all impressions on Smoke N The City is very low... I wish I could get that time back, I would have just gone to Mission BBQ at least at the price of $31 dollars I could have gotten a beer to wash the dry CHOPPED PORK SANDWICH I got instead of a pulled pork plate. To summarize my review DONT ORDER FOOD HERE! Just drive the extra 8 mins to Mission BBQ and eat at a professional dining facility! read more

My biggest issue with my experience is the price point does not match the food quantity or quality. My uncle ordered two family packs for two adults and two kids. The serving sizes were so small and he spent over $50. The pack offered the choice of two meats and two 8 oz. sides. He ordered the grilled chicken, brisket, macaroni and cheese and greens for one pack and beef, half smokes, baked beans and sweet potato fluff for the other. There was barely enough food for one adult and a child. They get the two stars because most of the food was good (I didn't like the sweet potato fluff). Stop in on the spot from work. First the customer service is a breath of fresh air. Everyone is kind ready to assist and take your order. I've been looking for a taste of real bbq (southern style). Go for the BBQ sandwich you won't be disappointed. The ribs are meaty, seasoned, and have a good flavor bit to them. Be sure to use the various sauces they have to compliment the meats. Stopped in for lunch on our drive from NJ to Florida. Great little BBQ place. We had the pulled pork sandwich, the beef brisket sandwich, and chicken breast the sides included Mac and cheese and fries. The Mac and cheese was some of the best we've had at a BBQ place. The pulled pork was flavorful and tender. The brisket was tender and tasty. The chicken breast was also very tender and tasty. Generally speaking the food is pretty good, but of late the quality of service has been... deteriorating. My most recent order of catfish nuggets came up about a pound short of what I paid for, despite assurances from the staff that there were indeed 3 pounds of catfish in the box clearly marked "2 lbs." (The full box only weighed about 1.84 lbs.) My following attempts to rectify the situation were met with a series of excuses, up to and including "sometimes the weight cooks off" (you know, like all those times you accidentlly "cook off" one full third of your meal), and the ever-popular "clearly that's not the same box we gave you earlier." Because I guess it's more likely that I'm trying to run an elaborate catfish nugget grift than it is that I was mistakenly given the wrong box. In any case, I have received neither the correct amount of food nor reimbursement for the food I did not receive. This is not, of course, an isolated incident, but it is the first to extend beyond the scale of "acceptable oversight" and thus best indicative of a worst-case scenario. If you've got a spare 10-15 dollars that you don't mind just disappearing into the aether, this place is a perfectly valid choice. If not, pursue other options. Their coleslaw isn't all that great either. read more

Hush puppies were some of the best I've had, the slaw and fries were excellent. My only regret was that I couldn't sample some of the other meats and desserts. I will be back! read more

Hands down- my FAVORITE SOUTHERN BARBECUE SPOT!!!! They really know what they are doing in here! A little hidden gem in Accokeek! The owners are really good people, you can tell they put their heart and soul into their cooking. The BBQ chicken is outstanding so is the blackened salmon. My brisket was freshly cut and was so tender. They had the right amount of sauce. I loved the Mac and cheese but the greens needed some apple cider vinegar but were still delicious. The story of Two sides! Let me start by saying this situation is very unfortunate but avoidable. I have patronized this business for a little over a year and collectively purchased over 1000 dollars in food, so to say the least I would consider my family and friends to be loyal customers. However, on Thursday the 17th of December none of this mattered. I ordered food through their delivery service offered online using FB messenger. The process was simple and took about 5-10 mines. I placed the order around 5:45pm. At 6:54pm I receive a phone call from the restaurant explaining my food was ready ; The employee explained they were just waiting on the driver at that point. I asked her if this would effect the quality of my food etc. and she replied "No, but I will call the company to see where the driver is" she did just that and called me at 7:15, 7:34, and 7:54pm m. The last call was to let me know my food was picked up and on the way. So at this point my food has been sitting. Needless to say I'm sure the quality of the food is compromised. The driver didn't show up to deliver the food until 8:30pm. Finally! But when I open the food I'm missing my two sides. I called the restaurant back and explained the situation and spoke with Greg Lee. To summarize the exchange he asked his employee what happened and she swore left and right she put them in the bag. At that point I explained that's great however they are not here so what can be done? I've been waiting for my food for almost three hours. He said he could just refund the money..... my kids are hungry!! I'm hungry! So I asked is there another way to get the food here in a timely manner. He took down my address and said he would bring them to me now. 5 minutes past all the way up to 25 mins and nothing. So I call back, he said he just got back, but he had the wrong house number but was on the correct block,so he left. I was so confused, if they had my number and called me 4 times prior, why wouldn't he call me and ask for clarification? He then explained that he was able to see the footage and saw his employee put the sides in the bag, so it's not their fault and there is nothing that could be done..... I just about had it ! I explained I had footage as well, and the delivery girl brought me the food without the sides and I could send the pictures if needed. I also explained in a situation like this there are soo many things that could be done to remedy this issue. So at this point I just want my money back.. He explained I would have to wait so the company could be contacted and get my refund through them since It wasn't their fault.... Talk about poor business practices. All I wanted was to feed my kiddos, and got this headache instead. I was indirectly accused of lying and still don't have my sides, or money till this day (Sunday December 20th, 2020). Needless to say they have lost business from myself, family, and work associates because of two sides... Below is the photo, There are 3 food items total. The bag in her left hand was a rack of ribs, sauce packets, and napkins and the bag in her left hand had individual trays of catfish nuggets, wings, and bbq sauce... that's it! You would clearly see 2 16oz containers if they were there, but they weren't... *Update* Jan 3, 2021 No one from this establishment has contacted me in reference to a refund, after being told they would get back to me. read more

Stopped by to try out the new local family owned barbecue restaurant near the Accokeek Giant supermarket. We ordered the pit master combo which Included beef brisket, pork ribs, barbecue chicken, and Carolina smoked sausage, 2 sides - mac and cheese and green broad beans. We also got the fried whiting, and banana pudding and red velvet cake. The smoked meat tasted great and juicy and the house two barbecue sauces were fantastic to go with everything. The banana pudding with a chessman cookie was a little too sweet for my taste but I added fresh bananas to tune it up a bit more. Suggest they are more generous with the number of ribs 4-5 ribs versus 3for any rib dinner if this place is to be a local favorites as we have lots of good ribs places within 15 miles to compete with this new business.
