I stumbled across this place today and am glad I did. I got the fried whiting special and it had two pieces of fish, shrimp, fries and hush puppies. The flavor of the shrimp was outstanding. The fries were good and I enjoyed the hush puppies too. The fish was on the salty side but was solid overall (it had a few bones too so be careful). I also got a jerk chicken and rib platter and while the jerk sauce was savory and spicy, it too was a bit too salty. If they can tone down the salt just a bit this would be 5 star worthy. The food wait time is real, the cashier seemed uninterested in taking our order but was somewhat pleasant and told us the food would take 20-30 mins. We understood 20-30 mins just fine but when it was past that time. We asked about the order. The items were only then assembled after we had asked. We put in our order around 3:20pm and did not leave until 4:10p without our full order because they had not placed the fries into the fryer. The cashier didn't even give the waters until we got the order. Food taste: what we got was a fried pork chop sandwich which was dry but seasoned and two pieces of bread. We got the jerk ribs sandwich, the ribs were good and placed by themselves and two pieces of bread. The bread was tasty as toasted white bread is. This food was ok but not worth the wait! I rarely comment to this degree however in this case I must. I really wondered what was going on with this business in LaPlata. It's in such a cool location. I wish my food experience would have been better. This was my second visit and sadly most likely my last. It just wasn't worth it. Regardless of the situation my experience felt unfair. They seem to have a steady customer base and on-line orders. Why are they jeopardizing this golden response and electing to throw orders together. The multiple signs on the walls and at the order desk also seemed strange for a business of this caliber. Look internally to address some of the real difficulties before its too late. To their credit, the cashier was friendly and the bar staff person I saw from a distance asked very kindly if I'd been helped. I don't mind waiting a long time for food if the quality, taste and friendliness outweighs the waiting, but almost 50 minutes was really unacceptable! Unfortunately, the waiting did not justify what I received. The curry chicken ordered was primarily thigh corner bones in a watery sauce. There were 4-5 chicken boney pieces. The chicken also appeared to have been frozen solid and cooked in a hot pot filled with a curry substance. Unfortunately the hot substance did not thaw the middle section of the chicken fully. The middle was still cold when I went to eat it (whew!). I brought it to a staff person's attention. She tried to address it ;however, when I got it back the middle was still cool. I departed confused. I didn't want to argue the point. I had experienced enough. The macaroni and cheese was slightly better in taste and packaged hot ; however, it lacked texture (is was soup like). In hindsight, I wondered if it was partially cooked or pulled out of the oven too early. The collard greens were edible, but overseasoned and too salty for my taste. I am sure some of my southern relatives would have loved them. The additives literally changed the color of the greens. To each's own. Saving the nutritional value was clearly not the cook's main objective. Despite my experience, I hope this business continues trying to reach their business and culinary goals. I think they should revamp their curry chicken recipe and explore some other recipe options that are more culturally based -- because what they have now is not the best at all. There was no white meat at all (please, be transparent). This selection is also not served with rice which seemed odd given the price. I've never received a curry order presented this way. Pros: There is excellent parking and a talented DJ on site on certain days. It's spacious and has a dinner sitting area. I think they just need some honest feedback and better business guidance from an experienced restaurant business owner or consultant. I could have ordered a selection that is a known 0. I'm sure there were 10 rated selections somewhere in the kitchen that I was unaware of. If you go, think about what you order. Good luck! About 3-4 weeks ago, my partner and I visited Ka'ribbean Fire. He's Jamaican. I'm Black American. We were genuinely excited -- the name alone had us expecting authentic Caribbean food. What we got was a confusing attempt to blend Jamaican and soul food that executed neither well. We spent close to $70. He ordered jerk chicken, rice and peas, cabbage, and mac and cheese. I had salmon with shrimp, crab egg rolls, mac and cheese, and cabbage. We waited over 30 minutes for the food. The salmon tasted frozen -- Great Value from Walmart, not fresh. The cabbage was overcooked and mushy. The egg rolls were not folded correctly; they looked like open envelopes and were presented poorly. The mac and cheese was bad and overly cheesy. My partner -- the one who paid -- was ready to walk out after one bite of the chicken. That tells you everything. I kept trying to eat because I refused to let $70 go to waste. It went to waste anyway. Beyond the food, the environment was unwelcoming and unprofessional. Staff were eating burnt cocoa bread in plain sight. People were walking around asking customers for lighters. Workers had a disheveled appearance. The overall atmosphere felt dirty -- and no restaurant should give that impression. The name "Ka'ribbean" sets an expectation you are not currently meeting. Whoever owns this establishment needs to honestly evaluate the kitchen staff, the food quality, and the standards being held inside that building. Two years ago, I had an unfortunate experience regarding food hygiene at the establishment. I found a hair in my meal, and when I brought this to the owner's attention, the focus seemed to shift towards defending her actions rather than addressing my concerns. Ultimately, the owner did apologize and offered gift cards, but by that point, I felt that the initial concern had not been adequately addressed. I've been coming here for going on 3 years and I promise you I will never be back. The service continues to go further and further down hill. The young lady that works the front counter makes it her mission to let you know how much you ordering is a burden to get. Today I went in I have over 700 points which they have always marketed you can use 100 points for 5 dollars off. Today I go in to use my points and of course now it takes 3 people to push the is through they only allow me to use one of the coupons then say they are rolling back the rewards program. So I ask can I use them on desserts and I'm told yes then I go to order desserts one by one (which total over 5 dollars per purchase so either way they are still making more money) and I'm told oh wait it only applies to specific dessert the ones that happen to be out of stock. I ask can i use it on normal food items she says yes, then i ask to order another item and use my points Now it's you have to spend 25 dollars to use your dollars off. I ask to cancel my order she ask the guy in front of her in the kitchen if it's been started he said they haven't worked and and she turns around as if I'm not 1 for from them to tell me they already started cooking it so it can't be canceled. Mind you my food was given to me with an attitude, and lukewarm. Note the owners snarky remarks on my Google review show where they stand. But since I can't reply to them there no I was joy upset I couldn't use all my points at once nor would using all my points have made my order free. I'm glad to see how they treat the community that has supported them. I was upset that the cashier made it feel like it was a bother to take my order in the first place and then the rules behind using my points changed 4 times in 10 minutes even after confirming with her before trying to make the next transaction. A simple message of "Hello ma'am we are changing our reward system after super bowl weekend and currently points can only be applied once on a purchase of 25 dollars or more" would have given me as a patron and understanding as to this policy change without it coming across as personal because there wasn't a single message and the constraints kept changing on the spot. Love a business who can't take criticism and I stand by my word I pray they get everything they deserve . Furthermore as the "Owner" how am I ask random customer supposed to know who you are to address you about my service. First time stopping in this place and they can cook. The menu is kind of a soul food Caribbean sort of morph. I had a fried pork chop sandwich which was nicely seasoned but there was no mayo or nothing on the bread it was just dry white bread. I took that home so I can fix it up to my liking. Jerk wings are really good, whole wings. They clearly use HOT jerk seasoning rather than mild - which can become kind of overbearing unless you like your food bitterly hot. I don't. My business partner had some whiting, greens, and yams. The whiting was excellent - very nicely seasoned and moist. The greens were good too. I'd give them a a solid 8 and 1/2 for 9 out of 10. We both agreed the "Henny" yams are like baby food. Overly sweet baby food pie filling mush. The cornbread muffin, on the other hand, was excellent. They say it's regular cornbread but I swear it's moist, sweet and delicious like cake. Like a sweet potato cake muffn. The drinks are fountain and the lemonade one didn't have anything, but water in it. They must have ran out of lemonade. You order at the counter and the cashier brings you to your food. There's a bar with beer and wine too, which is a nice touch. I saw three mixing machines with different daiquiris in them as well. It's really kind of a cafe quick serve establishment... but with a liquor license. Flat screens on the walls, none but one was turned on. Consistent on two things Food is good-customer service meh. I have never dined in -only carry out and each time I have ordered or my boyfriend the customer service from the same lady makes you not want to dine in and be subjected to her attitude. We no longer order carry out because it's not worth being treated as if she's doing us a favor by patronizing this restaurant. We've ordered take out twice from this location. Wanted to try something different. The food is ok I do feel it's a little overpriced. Both times that we've ordered we had items left off. The first time my husband got home and didn't check the second time he checked before leaving the restaurant. It's always missing a shrimp addition that's clearly included on the order and receipt. The fish is seasoned and fried perfectly. I would pass on the macaroni and cheese it's just not good to me. The collard greens are seasoned extremely well they are tasty. The restaurant is clean and spacious. You order in the back and they bring you your food. There's also a bar. The food selection to pretty good. There's a mixture of Caribbean and Soul Food options. What I will say, it's a nice fusion. There are some things they do well and some that should be taken off the menu. I've been here about 6-7 times, trying to experience the entire menu. We unfortunately didn't realize that there was a 15% service fee charged to our order. I asked about it and was told that it's an automatic fee added if you choose to dine in. They apparently have a notice at the counter but I didn't see it and the server who took our order didn't mention it. The service was... eh. The younger lady at the counter wasn't mean or rude, just a bit blunt. Didn't really engage with us much or explain the dishes to us and couldn't/wouldn't get my 4 year old a water cup.
