I'm no stranger to Jack Stack and I frequent it often but I hadn't been to this location. It's very nice and clean. They have a separate carry out section and plenty of parking. The bar area looked very nice. We were tucked away in a large separate room that I think is used for groups but they had lots of seating throughout. The service was excellent. There were about 15 of us and both servers were efficient, friendly, and professional. Glasses were refilled, questions answered patiently, accurate food orders, and plenty of boxes, containers, and bags for leftovers. Five stars all the way. The food at Jack stack is always excellent. They are very consistent across locations and you always know what you're getting. I stick to the same thing-the Hatfield sandwich with brisket and sausage. It's a half pound of two meats on a hoagie. The brisket is always a solid choice and I really like how they slice the sausage, thin, not chunky. It comes with fries but I swap those out for two smaller sides-cheesy corn and bbq beans. I very much dislike bbq beans but I love Jack stacks. They are about the only ones I will eat and I judge everyone else's against. The bbq beans here are a must. The cheesy corn is my second favorite. It's cheesy and Smokey. Others try to copy but this is the OG. Another must for me. We also had orders of fried mushrooms and onion rings for the table. The mushrooms are excellent with the horseradish. Everything everyone ordered looked delicious. The pork chop is making me consider going off script the next time I visit. But honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything here.

Somebody recommended this place to one of them. I don't eat meat, so ordered one of the fish dishes available, Red Trout, which was absolutely fantastic! The grill flavor on the fish was really phenomenal. Everyone tasted my dish and said it was the best thing on the table. I also enjoyed the coleslaw a lot. It was served in a very large bowl, and was plenty to share, if you wanted to do so. Ironically, they did not enjoy their choices. Both said their ribs were very dry, even when adding more sauce. And the burnt ends did not have enough char on them and were too fatty. Neither one finished their plate, or had any desire to take anything back.

And shame on you, because that would have been an absolute loss on your end. Hands down, some of the best bbq. HANDS DOWN. Their dry rub has just the right amount of kick, salt and flavor. I opted for the rib tips--it has all the grisly, greasy, cartiledge bits that give the meat its umami. Seriously, excellent without any bbq sauce. I chose the potato salad and pineapple baked beans as my sides, but honestly neither of these were up my ally. The beans tasted very coffee like, and too sweet for me, and the potatoes were a little too creamy. Their fries are crispy and thick. I'll have to try their collard greens next time. They have a pretty expansive seafood menu too, and by the looks at others plates, their fried items looked amazing and fresh--I'll be going back soon to sample the seafood. So glad this place is such a short drive from my house...it's definitely going to be one of my neighborhood favorites.

Jonathan himself makes the visit a 5 star experience with his over the top genuine friendliness, his in depth explanation of his diverse menu, and the free samples of his product that he was generously offering to his customers. Not only was Jonathan excited to be showing off his dream, but the other 3 staff I encountered were just as customer-service oriented as him. Enthusiasm is definitely contagious. I ordered the ribs tip sandwich with fries for $8 and a side of pineapple baked beans for $3. The beans were very unique with chunks of pineapple adding a fruity sweetness, the crinkle cut fries were coated with parmesan and excellent dipped in the house made BBQ sauce. The ribs were extremely smoky and very tender. My only complaint is that with the amount of gristle in the tips that eating it as a sandwich was impossible. My friend ordered the sausage and shrimp sandwich had the same issue - tasty food, just hard to consume as a sandwich since it was piled high and nothing to hold the large pieces of meats together. I would love to return and dig deeper into the menu. This would be a great option for feeding a group or catering a party.

This Joe's location has been in our rotation since it opened, and we go here often when family is in town as it can always accommodate a large group. Yes, there is still often a line, and sometimes it's out the door, but that never stops us. It's never taken more than 20-25 minutes to get through the line and find a table, even on a busy day. We also have often ordered pick up or door dash from this location and something I appreciate is that they turn off door dash if they are too busy for it. Why do I like this? because you aren't left in limbo wondering where your food is. Just go pick it up if you need Joes on one of those days. The food is also consistent. I've never eaten here and thought it was sub par. It's always great, always a good value for what you get, and the place is always clean. 5/5 all day every day.

Gates in Leawood, I'm gonna miss you!…read more I have been going to Gates in Leawood for over 20 years. Unfortunately, all things that were once great, sometimes come to an end. The portions have reduced in size, the staffing yesterday was one person behind the counter, the famous lunch line moved very slow. One gentleman was doing all the food prep in the back and the double-decker sandwich was decidedly smaller than the days of old. The clincher was the "added" $7 50 tip. I did not add a tip as mine was a to-go order. The same thing happened yo the guy next in line. He had plenty to say about it. I left so I an not sure it did him any good. I bid you well Gates. I will just stick with my favorite.....Jack Stack!!!

The quality of food is at worse, very good, and often exceptional. However....... i'm taking the time to post this review about one of my favorite barbecue restaurants and one that I often refer to out of town guests, because it is painfully obvious that this restaurant needs to change its policy about placing orders. It is not acceptable to be shouted at by employees of a restaurant. "Hi, MAY I HELP YOU?!" Not once or twice, but often three or four times from different staff members. And often, just as you step inside the door!!! It's not catchy, it's not funny, and it's not helpful. It concerns me that this legendary Kansas City standard for barbecue will not be around in another few years because there is a visible dislike for being shouted at at a restaurant for your food order. Jack stacks, Q39, Joes, and other newer barbecue restaurants are getting the customers that otherwise would've previously stopped at Gates and sons, knowing that they're not going to be a part of some cattle call. Seriously Gates, STOP with this inane custom!!!!!! ANNOYING AF!!!!!!

I met a couple of friends for dinner tonight at Joe's which did make my visit awesome! You order at a register, then pay, and pick up your food on a tray. A long line moves pretty fast, there's a decent amount of seating. so Zero complaints on service and ambiance. It's basically self serve and the decor is what you'd expect at a BBQ place. I was impressed with how smoothly and quickly it went with a large crowd there for dinner! I like the BBQ but it's not the best I've had. I got a 2 meat platter which comes with 1 side and toasted white bread. The brisket is pre-cut. I always ask for the lean side and the lady at the register said they cut it that way, but it had a lot of fat so I couldn't eat about half of it. The other meat I chose was pulled pork. It was fine. My side was corn. I'd call it Elote but they call it something else. It was very good. It's a small cup so I wish it were more since it was my favorite item of my meal. I also prefer a mustard/vinegar based BBQ sauce and they do not offer that at Joe's unless I somehow missed it but I don't think so. The BBQ sauce is very sweet! I would go back if a group of people I'm with wanted to go, but it's not the BBQ place I would pick for myself. Some of that is personal preference. It may be that you love fat (many do) and sweet BBQ sauce. If that's you, I would recommend you go!
