7/26 ribs and brisket with beans
    Teaira J.

Oh my word this bbq joint has some of the best ribs and brisket I have had and some of the best beans I have ever had! I would almost go back just for the beans. They are not that sweet, full of flavor, has chunks of meat in it which makes it pretty hardy. So good!

    Bread pudding, yummy

I am off beef at the moment and was excited to see a porabella sandwich. It was delicious. The crispy onion rings on it make it delightful. The bread pudding tastes like a super cinnamon-y cinnamon roll that kicks you in the face with cinnamon. Soo good! We went on a Saturday with no wait, but after we ordered and sat to eat, the line started and went to the door. Highly recommend.

Although the lines were long since it was peak dinner hours, I never had to wait more than 25 minutes in line. Despite the long line, it was worth it since the original Z-Man is one of the best sandwiches in the state of Kansas even for the whole country. The fries were nice and crispy, and the interior gave off a mixture of some wild-west vibes and a sports bar due to some vintage signs and many TVs were turned to MLB games. I recommend going to the original flagship location at the gas station in KCK if this is your first time. If it's not your second time, then the other locations including this one have shorter lines.

Besides the crowds you can expect and the too spicy baked beans you will encounter this is a top notch KC Bbq establishment. Upon arrival, I needed to wait approximately 1/2 hour to order (on a weekday). However, after ordering the food delivery was prompt and fortunately there was seating available. The ribs, salad, french fries as well as the banana pudding was outstanding. It was especially nice to have the free accompanying dill pickles and bread to savor but would have prefered that the bread was garlic toasted. With the many bbq choices to consider in Kansas City, I'm sure this is no less than a top 10 franchise location to enjoy. When/if I return to KC I will definitely try the brisket and sausage.

Visiting Kansas and everyone told us if we wanted good barbecue head to Joe's. Well, it didn't disappoint. Everything was great. We did have to wait in line for about 30 minutes but well worth it. The atmosphere was bright and cheerful with plenty of tables to accommodate the long line. We ordered a full slab of ribs, a side of beans, french fries, and a side salad. The ribs were meaty and fell off the bone. We added the sweet sauce that was on the table. It was very tasty. The beans were OK. They have a little kick to them . The fries were hot and cooked to perfection. The salad was fresh and a nice size portion. The staff was friendly, including the girls that were cleaning up after each person left the table. For dessert we shared the banana pudding which was excellent. Went to a few other barbecue places while in Kansas and joe's was definitely the best. So get in line for a wonderful meal.

The staff and service do stand out for me. They greet you and are very friendly especially for someone who's trying Kansas BBQ for the first time ever! My boyfriend takes so much pride in his hometown BBQ so much so that when he comes home to Olathe he treats his friend and his pawpaw and nana out to BBQ restaurants, not sure if this particular one though! But suffice to say I have heard of Kansas BbQ being so proudly different than Texas BBQ or Carolina BBQ... This place was especially helpful in giving you ideas of what you can order and was very quick in filling your to go order. I ended up ordering the beef brisket sandwich with a side of pulled pork. It came with sliced dill pickles, a side of your choice (I chose creamy Cole slaw). The sandwich was of white toast.

When I eat this barbecue, all I can say is shoo. When you ask to go to joes, there's never any no's. Doin' a spin on an elephants earlobe.

very crowded and this is my first time here. you go to cashier and order. plates and other utensils or even boxes, they have provided on the corner and basically kind of self service. taste is ok but the briskets is great. other meats will say a bit dry while i love a bit juicy. for mingle with your friends, i think this place is recommended because the ambiance is great...

The food and service at Joe's are excellent. The setup is more like a cafeteria--you place your order on one side of the bar, then pay and pick it up on the other. Seating is first come, first served. Be aware that food is prepared quickly, so don't wander too far while waiting. I ordered the Hogamaniac, which includes two ribs, pulled pork, and sausage--a great way to sample their meats. The kids had the kid-sized chicken dinner, which was delicious. The smoked white chicken was especially juicy. My wife had the Z-Man sandwich, a local favorite, and she really enjoyed it. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town! P.S. the banana pudding is a must try!

Joes! This is a must. This bbq joint is my family's top pick in Kansas City! There are plenty of good places here but this is always busy and always great. Whenever we go, I always get the two meat and try a different combo. Brisket is tender. Ribs stay together but come clean off. The sandwiches are good. There is something for everyone. Plan on a line. It moves relatively quick but there will always be a line. We have someone scout a table while we are in line. The sides are hit or miss and really depend on your taste. The beans are good. I love the spicy slaw. The potato salad is too soupy for me. Great spot that is a must try!

    Chris L.

Ridiculously racist! How do you make the only 2 people that aren't your color move from a table that you seat YOURSELF at. The table next to me or to the side of me did not have their food. How come you didn't ask the table that was already finished eating? This deceitful woman decided to target me and my young 2 year old child and that we were obviously waiting for our food. She insisted to state "you're in the back of the line so they need to sit here". Excuse me? How do you know who I'm with or who I came with. Pure racism at its finest. Thanks mean lady for making my 2 year old get up and couldn't enjoy his requested Mac and cheese. Inexcusable behavior.

I've found our new favorite restaurant for our weekly BBQ fix at J's BBQ! This was my second visit…read morein three weeks, and I can't rave enough about the food, ambiance, and service. My first trip was with my teenage son who loves ribs. We went for their unbeatable Wednesday/Saturday $18 full rack rib special. We shared the ribs and still had plenty left to take home. The meat was tender, smoky, and perfectly cooked. The BBQ beans were outstanding with just the right balance of smokiness and sweetness, and the seasoned crinkle-cut fries were addictive. This past weekend I brought the whole family of five. We're longtime regulars at KC Joe's, so I was a little nervous about a potential mutiny , but everyone loved it! My wife's face lit up the moment we walked in. She said it felt like a cozy restaurant we'd stumble upon while on vacation. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming with plenty of comfortable booths, warm lighting, and that perfect smoky BBQ aroma that hits you right when you enter. I went with the sausage and brisket combo, and it easily holds its own against most of the BBQ I grew up eating in Texas. One child ordered the kid's hot dog meal, and it was one of the best hot dogs I've tasted. Another got the brisket "Sloppy Mess" sandwich, and my wife had the shredded pork sandwich. Every single plate was a hit, and the whole family agreed we've found a new favorite. The owner was incredibly friendly and took the time to chat with us about how he opened the restaurant. It's always great to see that kind of passion! My only feedback is that I wish they stayed open a bit later. They close at 7pm on Sundays and 8pm the rest of the week. With a 20-minute drive from Overland Park and a family of five to wrangle, we could roll up right around closing time. A little extra time would make it perfect which I anticipate will happen the more people discover them. All in all, J's BBQ has officially earned a regular spot in our weekly rotation. If you're in the area and craving quality BBQ in a family-friendly setting, do yourself a favor and check it out!

You order at the counter and are given a number to take to your table while you wait for your food. I ordered The Bella. This was a comically large sandwich. The burnt ends were HUGE! It was impossible to eat as a sandwich so I took it apart and cut up the burnt ends. All the food was solid and I really liked the hot bbq sauce. I left completely full finishing my meal. I would lean on ordering something else when I return as the sandwich was just impossible to eat as a sandwich for me. I really want to try the ribs but they were sold out. So I know for next time to come early.

The servers were great- so very kind and even told us not to tip due to the world cup percentage being added. The new restaurant was very sharp and spacious in the layout. But the only thing it had going for it was the server and the space. The food was brought out quickly but was not of good quality. My brisket was 75% all fat. It was gross. My 90yr old grandmother ordered their Crown Prime Beef rib for 38.00. It was literally all fat. The very few pieces of meat on it was very tender and soft, but she took two bites of it and could not eat anymore. My husband got the pulled pork and it was so dry. The best thing that we ate was our salmon dip appetizer. Other than that I was highly disappointed in the quality of the meat. I spent too much money just to eat nothing but fat. Very poor quality and not sure that I will be returning.

My brisket was also quite moist with minimal fatty parts, which is what I prefer. Sausage was ok, had to really chew into it. What I'm most disappointed about is the ribs. The ribs were good, but for almost $20, I got 3 pieces. They stated for the ribs plate, you'd get about 3 or 4, depending on the weight, but it would be nice to note that down somewhere that when paying $20, expect 3 pieces. Ive gotten double that and about the same price at other bbq spots, hence my disappointed and surprised when opening the container. Mac and cheese had huge shell noodles, which was cool but on the watery side. Potato salad was decent, got the job done but a little bland. Sauces are also on the tangy side, and if you're a sweet bbq sauce gal like me, it wasn't hitting the spot. Overall was nice giving a try, but will prob be going elsewhere for my bbq needs!
