I have attempted to buy food on 3 occasions from.this business. The gentleman that runs it has zero customer service. First attempt, he was annoyed at me asking questions about different items, stating he was busy so I left. The second time he seemed more interested in watching sports on his big screen inside the food trailer, so I left. Third time I pull up he is handing orders to 2 customers. I wait until he is done, he then closes the window. I stand there for 23 minutes. Two other potential customers arrive and wait. They ask me how long I've been there, I tell them. He never appeared again. We, the three customers talk amongst ourselves for awhile then decide to leave. This BBQ is worth a stop if your passing by traveling or just out for a quick bite. I have been here several times and the food never disappoints. Portion sizes are very generous. The cost is average but well worth it. My Last experience I ordered the Slow smoked Pit BBQ Beef sandwhich along with a side of macaroni salad. I was provided with one large juicy and tasty BBQ sandwhich. The sauce and and smokey flavors will leave your mouth watering for more. The macaroni salad gives me that nostalgic feeling of being at a family picnic. Everything is great here , stop in and try some :) Location: The Smokehouse sits between the highway and has a limited schedule. there is a gravel parking lot where you can pull in and park as well as a picnic table for eating. After waiting for well over an hour, I was served a platter with a side of attitude. I let it go because I was hungry and looking forward to spectacular food. The cornbread was moist and flavorful and that is where the culinary journey ended. The ribs were mediocre, the potato salad was bland, the beans were just plain not good and the mac 'n cheese was extremely disappointing. Since the owner made it clear that he doesn't need my business, I'll take it to one of the many rib joints near me that serve better food in a more timely manner. Based purely on the visual, Smoke's Smoke Shack may be more appropriate. In the middle of Route 40 near People's Plaza. Smoke's is a one man show. You will get attention to detail and not speed. I got the beef brisket sandwich. I figured it is in the extended Cheesesteak family. $10. Choice of sweet or hot sauce. I went sweet. Fairly tasty. Good amount of meat. The guy running this place is a total ASSHOLE! I wish I had read the negative reviews prior to stopping by. There was a sign posted that read open at "2:45 today". I waited 15 minutes (got there at 2:30) for the place to open. At 2:55 there was a guy outside on the grill so I asked him...are you open". This asshole responded with..."does it look like I'm open". Looks are deceiving. He didn't look like a "dick" but he certainly was one. Don't know what the food tastes like and frankly speaking, don't care. Read the reviews before supporting this establishment. If he'll talk to his customers in such a nasty and rude manner, I can only imagine what he'll do to the food.. read more

Definitely the best barbecue in the area. It sure beats the "new" place across the street. The shredded pork is done perfectly just like in Memphis. The brisket (though little on the lean side pairs well with the sauce. Sausage could place in any Texas barbecue competition. The portions are huge. The smoked mac & cheese has a consistency that reminds you it's made from real cheese not Velveeta, the smoke really comes out. The beans, I'll definitely come back for the beans with large cuts of bacon in them they are delicious. this place is certainly better than some of the towns "best" barbecue. read more

I came here today with my boyfriend and his mother. She went to go get a sandwich and the mac & cheese with chicken on top. She said that when she was went to the window he was completely rude and nasty. He didn't speak and then tried to tell her that she had to be charged a certain way for what she ordered. He then proceeded to tell her how to order something and when she corrected him, he got upset and slammed the window on her. He over charged her and when she decided that after the poor service she received, she asked for a refund. He told her that he had already made the food and he wasn't giving her a refund. The food was still in the bag, untouched, and she had never left the window. It got to the point where we had to contact the police so that she could get her money back. Best ribs I've ever had!!! And I don't know why some people don't like the beans, I just love them. Awesome. He cooks low and slow, so I know it's done right! Thumbs down to those negative yelpers, I give him 5 stars. As far as his attitude, you tend to a smoker for 13 hours and then prepare for a day of sales....I'm sure you'd have an unpleasant disposition as well. Waiting 20 minutes for preparation is ok with me, and he makes everything himself...except the corn bread. Cmon give this guy a break....very knowledgeable and skillful in smoking. FYI- this place also goes by "Smoke's" I have been wanting to try this place for a while as I am a sucker for good BBQ and it is right down the street from me. I passed it a few times and told my wife that one day I will stop during lunch and check it out. Working from home has benefits and minuses but being at home, I really have no excuse to go out for lunch like when I was in the office. I was out running an errand and figured, what the hell, give it a shot. They don't take cards so I stopped at the ATM and headed over. The business is a trailer stationed at the end of a gravel lot that serves as a truck tire dealer/repair shop. No set parking, just find some space not blocking anything and park it. I went up to the trailer and there were three guys there, 1 was picking up, 1 was just ordering and 1 was waiting to order. Apparently, they take an order, make it and serve it and then move on... One guy wanted pulled pork...he was out and it would be about an hour before the next batch. OK, I guess I'll do something else. BBQ is pork in my opinion, Texas BBQ is beef. He has signs for pork topped Mac and cheese and other pork specialties (and the logo is a pig) but no pork available. Finally, it is my turn to order. No pork, check. How about Pit Beef (a Baltimore area specialty and we're 60 miles from Baltimore, so why not)? Nope! He then tells me he had a catering order that took all his smoker space and he is behind. OK...no problem. Valid reason IMHO. "You have brisket?" finally, a positive answer. I'll take a brisket sandwich and a side of Mac and cheese. I wait a few and a bag is placed out of the window. $8. Ok. Does this have the side of Mac and cheese? "Hold on!" (He answer annoyed) Then the issue was the lack of smaller bills. If he got the order right, it would have been $11.50 and I would have given him a $20. He still was going to give back the same change no matter what so I didn't see the big deal. Alright, I'm a bit perturbed at this point but I can discount the grumpiness (being a grump myself, I can relate...hell, my vanity plate is "GRUMPY1"). I'll let the food be the judge. Sadly to say, it didn't win me over. The Mac and cheese was OK. I'm not sure it was "smoked" or just cooked on the grill. The brisket sandwich was shredded beef (don't think it was brisket as there was ZERO fat) covered in sauce (I was given a choice, I chose "spicy" and it did have a little heat) on a soft kaiser roll. No smoke ring on the brisket pieces that were the ends. So much sauce that I am unsure it wasn't cooked in an oven as opposed to a smoker. Check the pics and see what I am talking about. I am out of state but have driven past this several times before deciding to try. Higher than a 4 stars but not as high 5. I had the pulled pork and smoked Mac and cheese. As someone on the larger size, I appreciated the generous portions. I found the proprietor pleasant enough. He gave me a pleasant enough greeting and appreciation when I said farewell. Well this was a surprise. There is small shed across from People's Plaza that sells BBQ. First, let me tell you that I am 98% vegetarian (whatever that means). I haven't had any red meat for over 2 years. I was craving BBQ (a weakness of mine) and I saw the sign.......uh oh. Now let me tell you that this was not the BEST BBQ that I ever had in my life, however it was certainly up there. My other best favs were in Newark, NJ (Brothers-no longer there) and a place in Atlanta (Fat Matt's Rib Shack). Anyway, my wife got the pulled pork sandwich and I got 1/2 rack of Ribs. Amazing. There are different sauces...sweet, spicy, etc. We both got the spicy (but it really isn't spicy..just perfect). The Ribs were fall off the bone perfect with a nice bark on the outside. The pulled pork was succulent..as it should be. The mac and cheese were OK and the cornbread was prepackaged but who cares? I was there for the ribs. Overall I have been disappointed with food establishments in Delaware but Smoke's rejuvenated my taste buds. I gave Smoke's 5 stars because when I compare it to other eating establishments in DE it excels! I can't say that I will be eating meat every week, but this will be my go to place when I buckle. read more

Absolutely the best bbq everything around! My husband had brisket and I had the chicken, there was enough meat on each roll to serve 3-4 people! Both of our meals were unbelievably tender and had the best flavor we have ever eaten! We will be visiting him at least 3-4 times a month, if not more! read more

I am a BBQ fiend and being southern I've been to some incredible BBQ joints... But this is by far the worse slop I ever had. The smell passing by lulled me into a false sense of BBQ nirvana but only to have my dreams crushed! The pulled pork sandwich was an abomination , it had the consistency of a frozen can of mushy, fatty and an over sauced ball of regret . The sides were horrible in taste ! banana pudding with no bananas and fresh out the box vanilla wafers is a crime. Didn't take the membrane off the ribs. Anyone who knows good BBQ knows this is a massive no-no. Also wayy too much sauce on the pulled pork. Takes away from the smoked pork flavor. Its basically a BBQ sauce sandwich with a hint of pork. He also moves at a snails pace no matter how long the line is. Once you finally get to the front of the line he is not a very nice man. We have seen this food truck and finally decided to give it a try. We thought we would sample his food then maybe use this vendor for a large family gathering next month. My wife and I stopped and checked the menu and were ready to make our selection. I could see movement inside the trailer but no one seemed to know we were waiting. I tapped the bell that was next to the closed order window. Still no one came to the window. My wife was about to knock on the window, I told her not to because he surely knows we're here and will help us soon. Finnally he opened the window and informed us we would have to wait our turn as he was working on someone else's order. There was no one in front of us. There were a few people eating at the picnic table but no one in site waiting for their food. He shouted the question "what do you think I'm doing in here sleeping? The food is decent, but the guy closes business whenever he feels like it. Over half the time I've stopped by to grab some food the guy had already left hours before the published closing time. Don't waste time driving out of your way for ok food, that you may or may not be able to purchase. You can get better and more reliable food elsewhere. A few weeks ago I was in the mood for ribs so my fiancé and I decided to give Smokes Smokehouse a try. I got the half rack ribs (sweet) with potato salad - both were excellent. The ribs are, without a doubt, the best I've ever had. Seasoned so well, tender and covered in a delicious sweet, yet savory sauce. My fiancé went with the pulled pork sandwich (it's pulled to order) which he loved. We have since been back 3 times. Plan on waiting for a bit while he gathers your order.
