Pulled Pork, Brisket, and Chicken All the meats were very good......especially the Brisket. You could taste the smoke flavor in the meats. The Brisket was smoked to perfection. (The Brisket is hiding up under the red and white paper..... sorry). I ordered the hot sauce to use on all the meats. The sauce was in good addition but was not hot in my opinion. Sweet Potato Crunch - Very flavorful. Nice mix of cinnamon and crunch (nuts) Baked Beans - Not a fan, needs work. Taste straight out the can without sprucing it up. I didn't get the chance to try to hush puppies because they weren't done cooking and I didn't have time to wait any longer. Smokey & the Pig came highly recommend by locals around. I am hard on barbeque and found it to be mediocre. One thing I absolutely loved was the Sweet Potato Crunch-it was amazing. Whats odd is I could taste the smoke in the potatoes. It was perfect. The way the streusel was perfectly caramelized and crunched-it was 10/10. The pulled pork was flavorful but not a lot of smoke flavor in it. The same with the brisket-it was kinda rubbery and I didn't taste any smoke, it almost tasted boiled. I tried two of their sauces-one was incredibly spicy and the other incredibly sweet so I mixed the two together and they were good. The Mac and Cheese was just okay-not baked but put me in the mind of Panera's. The hushpuppies were hot and fresh-perfect crisp on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. The staff was incredibly kind and took the time to explain the menu and offer suggestions. I always love when they do that. I loved the setup-even though it's small, they definitely maximized the best use of their space. They have a few tables to eat outside, parking was easy, and I didn't wait long for my food. read more

I don't think I have ever given a one star review. This was sad, as I had expected so much more. The ribs were so hard to pull apart, it was the complete opposite of "fall off the bone" - it took some real effort to separate them and they were chewy and not tender in the slightest. I decided to venture outside of Asheville and came across Smokey & the Pig. Since we don't have good BBQ in Florida, I decide I should get my fix while in the south (no Florida is not the south). The rustic building told me I was in for a treat when I arrived. I was warmly welcomed by the gentleman behind the counter and then a woman came to take my order. I opted for the Pulled Pork plate with collard greens, macaroni & cheese and hush puppies. The pork was juicy and tender with the right amount of smoke. I tried both the sweet bbq sauce and the vinegar sauce and realized hands down the vinegar was my favorite. The collard greens were well seasoned and I enjoyed them, was just missing a little pepper sauce. (They may have had it but I didn't ask) The Mac & cheese was cheesy and creamy and the hush puppies were excellent. The seating area is small. There were just 2 tables and since I took one they were completely full. Although it was out on a patio they had a heater so even though it was a colder day, it was comfortable. It seems like a lot of locals stop by for take out as I didn't see anyone needing a table until I was leaving and a guy took my table. I would definitely consider going back here and highly recommend it if you're in the area! read more

I was a little disappointed given the rating. I liked the flavor of the gravy on the mashed potatoes but thought the pulled pork was a little dry and room temperature. The hush puppies were tasty but also room temperature. I only live 12 min away and it was 11:15am so must have just opened so thought that was weird. The baked beans were ok, but didn't have any meat or onions or anything else. Seemed like they may have been canned. The food was out quickly and employees were very friendly. This is a tricky review to write. A huge pro: -the price! A ton of food for a great price. -the service. super friendly. -the meat! we tried both the chicken and the pork; both were great. The mixed bag: -the sides. The mashed potatoes & hush puppies were both SO yummy! Sweet potato casserole was good - but extremely sweet (I'd rather have it as a dessert than a side). The mac n cheese was bland, and the coleslaw was just *okay*, nothing fancy. Fortunately the side options were huge - so there are lots of other things to try. The meh: -the seating area was less-than-clean. Not gross by any means, but also overdue for the table to get a wipe-down. (This is generally a takeout type place, but we ate there). Here's where things get complicated. Ultimately what you make of this is up to you. This is a pro-police, pro blue-lives-matter establishment. There is a massive blue-lives-matter flag in the seating area. So: depending on your beliefs, this might be extremely uncomfortable. I'll let you take it from here. I don't know how to rate and review a place that might, unfortunately, have problematic elements. read more

Guys!!! On my 3rd trip to Asheville to visit family we stumbled across this G E M. First off, their hand written chalkboard menu gives you a very "cozy, homey" feel and I'm all for that. Secondly, Heath behind the counter was as nice, polite, and welcome as can be. We were a group of 5 and he helped us all pick put and order our food. We opted for some brisket plates and sandwiches, and got some of this sweet potato delicious concoction they got cooking up behind the window (they call it "Sweet Potato Crack" and rightfully so). Once our meal was over (and it was fantastic) we bumped into Tim the owner, boy was he a riot. Very nice to see a small "mom and pop" type of restaurant cook up great food and have even better people owning and working there. We came from Miami and have some family that lives near by, so we definitely will be back soon. Thanks again! read more

So happy this cute little smokehouse is right down the road! The "Pig" as we local Fairvillians like to lovingly refer to it, is EPIG! Bad pun. The staff is super friendly and fast - and they even have a loyalty punchcard which we have filled a couple of already! My personal fave is their sliced brisket. It is smoked beautifully with that all-telling red smoke ring just inside the crispy edge of each slice & it is so tender and moist with just enough smokiness not to overpower. We never seem order enough! Sometimes for lunch I will get it in a sando topped with SC bbq sauce and coleslaw. It's a mess of a sloppy one but worth every bite! A close second is, believe it or not, the pulled chicken. I know..I know..."not the pork?", you ask. No. The pulled pork is good, sometimes it's a bit too fatty for my taste, but that chicken! Smoky and tender, not dried out and tasteless. We take it to go and make SMOKY BBQ CHICKEN TACOS: (toss the pulled chicken in some of their Alabama bbq sauce, stuff it into some warm fresh corn tortillas, add a dollop of the Pig's yummy coleslaw, then top it off with thinly sliced fresh Serranos (we like heat), some chopped cilantro and a squeeze of lime and Ooooowheee!
