Plus the corn bites as one side, also excellent. All portions are generous, and one of my pet-peeves is that they serve REAL BUTTER! Cute place we stopped at after our visit to Mt Mitchell. Straightforward BBQ with a good sized menu and friendly staff. Our server was polite, and offered suggestions on some items she enjoys, which is very helpful since this was our first time here. We got an order of hush puppies to start. Very good! Next our sandwiches were delicious. My son and I both got the Smokey que sandwich. This was The most tender and flavorful bbq I have ever had! My son really enjoyed his too. My husband tried their chicken sandwich. It is a chopped chicken, so it resembles the chopped pork on our sandwiches. He said it was excellent. Overall great experience. Probably the worst barbecue I have ever had the displeasure to experience. I ordered the half rack of ribs, which were "on special" with collards and potato salad. The ribs were way over smoked- the meat on the chine end was cooked to the consistency of wood. The rack had then obviously been held in a steam table for way too long, as the chine bone ends were leached and looked like they had been boiled. The rack was slathered with what tasted like KC Masterpiece or something like that. Not sure why they did that given that they provide a sauce caddy for the table. Probaby to hide what they had done to the ribs. Think waterlogged wood. Uggh. Potato salad made with mustard; not my thing. Collards too finely chopped and were way too sweet. Had no pork in them. Also not my taste. If this is the best bbq in Marion, then Marion has a problem. read more

WOW! I really love the new location located right next door to the original location! Impressive menu, great tasting food and the staff; Andra and all the others go out of their way to make the dining experience TRUELY FANTASTIC! However, the actual pulled pork BBQ was the worst I have ever had in my life, anywhere, at anytime. I'm 56. I've eaten a lot of BBQ. The pulled pork BBQ was more like pork jerky. It was very stringy and harder than jerky. Think hard-tac, like you are on a whale ship 100 years ago. One bite. Could not eat. Even the vinegar BBQ sauce was terrible. It was like straight vinegar. No seasoning. Which would not matter because the pulled pork BBQ was too hard to eat. I have lived all over the world. I have traveled extensively. Smokey Que's now gets the infamous rating of " Worst. Meal. Ever. " $25 wasted. I took one bite almost spit out. The second bite I did spit out. You guys...I really enjoy this place. More than anything, its the girls that serve us. Ya'll...theyre just all friendly, down to earth, attentive, helpful and patient. It makes eating here really enjoyable. The atmosphere isn't anything special or unique; just a regular old 'hole in the wall' type place. Casual and comfortable. Totally my style. So the food...thats some good damn BBQ ya'll. It isn't the best I've ever had, but its definitely above average. Their BBQ, their ribs, their catfish and their chicken tenders are all pretty frikkin yummy. Their red slaw and hush puppies are really yum. I'd love to see a creamy Mac and cheese hit the menu (hint hint). Theyre not intrusive about masks either...and i have to say, that's so refreshing. We can be comfortable. We can choose. Smokey Que's delivers on delicious North Carolina BBQ. This is some of the best BBQ I've enjoyed in a long time: Tender, Smokey pulled pork with bits of brown. What confused me somewhat are their choices of sauces. They offered three sauces including vinegar and sweet bbq (can't remember the third). The vinegar seemed the most appropriate for NC pulled pork, but it was pure vinegar with no spices. I ate the BBQ without it and was perfectly happy. Next time I'm going to ask to sample all three. They have all of the standard sides plus a few not so typical including fried pickles (which I love). Smokey Que's has both cole slaw and red bbq slaw. I tried the cole slaw which was very good. Will try the bbq slaw on the next stop. In addition to pulled pork, the menu also features ribs and catfish. That sweet bbq sauce would be great on the ribs I imagine. The ambiance is really nice for a bbq joint. Service is prompt and friendly. This is definitely a place to experience excellent NC smoked BBQ. read more

got the brisket sandwich which was shredded beef. My first bite I could not chew it, it was like chewing leather. I finally got a to go box and at the checkout I told the lady the brisket was tough but I was going to take it home and chop it up and maybe I would be able to eat it . I left the waitress a tip and the bill was just shy of $20. Chopped the meat with a hand chopper which was difficult. Finally threw it away I couldn't even give it to my dog or cat because I had put bbq sauce on it. So my advice don't get the brisk sandwich and make a $20 mistake like I did. read more

Not so at Smokey's. The pulled pork was tender but lacked any smokey flavor thus requiring sauce. The ribs were either smoked in white smoke or liquid smoke and then slathered in store-bought sauce to hide the lack of true smoked ribs as well as a fishy taste. I don't think it's necessarily fried Bologna but it's a thick hot and smokey slab in between some Texas toast and 2 slices of cheese. Incredible. So far everything I've tried at Smokey Ques is good. Today my co worker and I decided to give this place a visit. It was full of construction workers, police men and firemen. I thought this will be amazing. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I'm doing keto so I had the spicey thighs and a side salad with blue cheese. My coworker ordered the pulled pork with corn nuggets and fried okra. Honestly it was just dry. The pulled pork resembled chopped pork but tiny pieces. Even after adding the vinegar sauce it was disappointing. I used the red mild sauce and found it to be flavorful as the spiceless thighs definitely needed the sauce. My salad came with 1000 island versus blue cheese. The waitress did quickly go back and take care of my order. They serve Pepsi products. The restaurant is a large Room with a eclectic signs. I doubt I would try it again. read more

I hate to leave a bad reviews but truth be told, the only positive thing was that the food portions were very large and our waitress was nice. As for the food, the half chicken was so dry I could barely swallow it and had absolutely no flavor or seasoning what so ever. It's claimed to be "slow cooked" but the meat was tough. The chicken wings we some of the best around but last two times we have ordered them they have been burnt to a crisp and so dried out that you could not eat them.
