On Saturday November 4, 2023, me and my family decided to grab a bite at Smokey Bones in Bowie. Upon arrival, they were jam packed and the kitchen was behind on orders. We were told it would be at least a 30-45 min wait for food. This was a risk but we still decided to say. The food and drinks took alittle longer than normal but the customer service was excellent. Eric was our server, I saw him making orders as well as serving multiple tables. He was very personable and took care of all our needs. In addition to Eric, Patrick is a supervisor but at the time he was really doing a great job. He made sure everything was going well and even bought out our food. Came to this location for the first time for lunch on a weekend. Hubby and I ordered their pretzel bones appetizer and their rib feast with sides of broccoli, baked beans, corn, and potato wedges. Total, not including tip was around $53. What's hot - Quality. Delish. This is a chain with a pretty good reputation, and this location holds it up pretty well. Our ribs were flavorful and tender. Our favorite was probably the pretzel bones appetizer, because the pretzel bread was warm, buttered, seasoned with a good amount of salt, and the cheese dip was spicy. Their bbq sauces are pretty good, but nothing to write home about. - Service. Although their staff appears to be minimal, they're definitely making do with who they have and they're definitely pulling their weight. Hubby remarked this is one of the better restaurant services we've had, because they're not juggling between multiple customers at the same time. Our waiter was super polite and helpful. He answered my husband's questions regarding the menu items. The waiter also asked us a couple of follow up questions regarding our orders, which we appreciated, because it showed the waiter didn't assume we would pay for a menu up charge. This location didn't have many dine-in customers, but there were many customers who stopped by to pick up their takeaway orders. From what we observed, we didn't see customers wait very long for their orders. This location appears to have a good system in place to handle dine-in customers and takeaway orders. - Menu. President good variety- something for everyone, including vegetarians (but not vegans). - Price. One person can eat for under $20. However, if you're going to include an appetizer and/or dessert, you're looking at closer to $40. Still pretty reasonable, especially given the portions and quality of food. - Portions. For a decent amount of ribs for 2 people, including side dishes and beer, $40 is pretty good value for money. We actually counted the number of rib bones afterwards, became we were curious. Between the 2 of us, it was 15 bones. Definitely enough to get us full and to share. - Location. Pretty good and is around other conveniences, which is helpful. Pretty good size parking lot, as well. What's not - Service. It appears their staff is minimal and bare bones, so be prepared for their service to be slow. Attentive, but slow. - Health and safety. We didn't see anyone wear face masks. To be fair, the restaurant wasn't packed. However, I don't think that's why the staff doesn't wear masks. It appears not wearing masks is their norm. I appreciate that the pandemic is still evolving. However, it would be reassuring for their staff to wear masks around customers. Final Answer Appears to be a good location to return to, whether it's for takeaway or dine-in. read more

Took over 1 hour just to get drinks, took talking to the manager to get us food ,even after the manager came took another server to get us our food. The bathroom is filthy mud on the floor and trash all over the floor. The place was not even full on a Friday night yet took about 2 hours in total to get drinks and food as well as talking to 3 different people. Our server, Tabion, truly made the night special. They were attentive without being overbearing, super friendly, and had great recommendations from the menu. This is a COVID Review... Dine In is OPEN Guys if I could give this place 6 stars I would!!! First off I dined in on a Friday around 6pm. It about 4/6 tables used. Not a lot of people was dining in but the pick up was very busy. Everyone had on masks and was following guidelines to keep you safe. Unlike TGIF, they serve you regular silverware (fridays give you fresh plastic ware.) I think they should do that. But I am Sure you can ask for plastic ware if you don't want the silverware. I don't know what's up with Smoky Bones. We came here after a Boysox game, because they were open until like 1. We were sat pretty fast, but once seated everything just went left. Our server was polite. He took our drink order and asked if we wanted appetizers. We ordered nachos and he said they'd be up shortly. He came back a few minutes later to assure us about the nachos, and took our meal order. We waited about 25 minutes for the nachos, and they ended up coming out 1 minute before our food. Which was ordered about 15 minutes after the nachos. So now we got everything at once on the table, like what was the point? Afterwards he disappears, and there doesn't seem to be any employees on the floor. There is a line of like 7 people waiting to be sat at the door, and out of nowhere it gets uncomfortablely hot in the restaurant. So we're sitting there trying to eat BBQ while sweating. The A.C. had to have been out for about 25 minutes and it was already on the warm side when we got there. My wife and I decided to get the check and head out, and I'm going to under sell how long that took because I don't feel like going into detail. Anyways we left, and I doubt we'll be coming back. Smokey Bones has always delivered a very solid BBQ experience for a chain restaurant. I particular we have enjoyed their smoked wings and their rib feast combo that periodically goes on sale. The latter is usually a good value, although they have since dropped some of the premium items it used to come with. Their menu is quite varied though, with a wide variety of entrees and sides to accommodate a variety of tastes. Portion sizes are decent, and the food has always been fresh. At his location in particular, the facility is kept nice and clean. Service has usually been friendly and fast, although recently to-go service has not been quite as good. The food though is always good, and week look forward to it when we are in the area. Recommend giving them a try, especially for dine-in to experience them at their best. read more

Came to meet a friend on a Friday @8pm. Plenty of shared surface level parking spots. Bathroom was out of paper towels. I told the front desk person and that I had to use toilet paper to dry my hands lol. She said thanks for letting her know and went to add paper towels. I opt'd to sit at the bar high table since I arrived first. I literally was sitting for about 15 mins before anyone came to my table to ask for water. The place was not crowded at all but maybe there were only 2 waiter/ress working. Drinks took a long time to come also. Food was just okay. I don't even remember what I ordered since I barely ate it. We ordered Smokey Bones through Door Dash. Years ago we used to go there pretty often. They gave you a lot of food for the price and it was pretty tasty. But there were way more misses than hits with this order. Hits: I got the pulled pork platter and the pork was good. Not too fatty. (I wish it came with BBQ sauce, and maybe there was a place to ask for it and I missed it.) My middle son got the wings and he was a fan. Okays: My oldest got the burger. No complaints and he often has things to say. My youngest had the ribs and those were fall off the bone and he seemed ok with them. Misses: My husband got a combo platter and the sausage was super hard and over cooked. The Mac and cheese was way too goopy. The cheese to Mac ratio was way off. No one ate more than a bite. The worst by far was the donuts. I'm not sure what happened there. They were way too over cooked. I can hear my son crunching on his. I'm providing photographic evidence. They try to make up for it in kindness but at some point you just need to do better. The food was cold. Wings completely overcooked. Husband ordered a medium rare ribeye. Got a rare sirloin. We ordered a drink and waited patiently for her to begin making the drinks all the while she's in there talking and chatting up the workers. We're still waiting but now we are getting frustrated. As we continue to wait the same bartender starts scratching her back (nasty) but then she doesn't stop there she then goes in again and starts scratching and pulling at her ass. I've been to other Smokey Bones and liked it. I went to this one in Bowie, MD and got such rude and nasty treatment at the bar that I walked out without even ordering. I walked in to a wonderful restaurant next door called Jerry's Seafood and five minutes after I was there, two other customers from the bar at Smokey Bones came in because of the horrible service at the bar. Soooo first time here in a long while. Looks about the same on the inside. Clean, but def a bit dated. As the booth we sat at had a cracked seat cushion and had definitively seen better days. We ordered the Bone Fire. It came out on a smoking grill looking thing. I guess it was supposed to mimic a charcoal grill or fire pit? The amount of smoke was insane especially with it being pretty much directly in your face. I know I left out of there smelling like a steak. The Bone Fire is meant to be shared amongst many diners. It's comes in 2's (service for 2, 4, 6). It came with a lot of meat! Sliced chicken breast, wings, ribs, sausage, sirloin, wedges, peppers and onions. Everything was really tasty. Expect the sirloin. Extremely dry. Dry to the point that we didn't even eat it. I guess the wedges and peppers were supposed to be the sides. Next time I'll order something to help break up all the meat. Well, it just seemed like a lil confusion on ordering. Face masks don't help. My waiter was very pleasant, but he f''d MY order up. His tennis shoes squeaked when he walked lol so you could hear him coming. It was strange I couldn't smell like food grilling and stuff (yes I can smell) being the type of establishment it is, the place should be inundated with aromas. This is the worst experience ever! I came in at 7 pm and never received my food. At 8 pm I ask the bartender, Kelly, who was extremely nice, where my food was. I ended up canceling my order because the food never came. For a customer to have to wait over an hour and the food to NEVER come is ridiculous. Service like this would make me never come back. The young man with long curly hair went above and beyond making sure my drinks tasted the best. Though, on my second visit I was extremely disgusted. I believe the lady's name was Kelly. Came here after an event around 2pm on Saturday. There were only a few tables of people (5-6), but the they were still understaffed supposedly. I overheard them tell the group that came after us, that it was a 30 minute wait for a table. For a place so large, you would assume that wouldnt be the case. For Service, at no fault of the servers, I would give it a 3/5, due to them being overwhelmed even with few tables Food wise, it was a little upsetting they didn't have certain things that was on their menu. I ordered the Double Stack with an extra Patty, but they didn't make it right the first time, and the second burger, the patties were overdone on the drier side, but I didn't want to wait for a third time. We brought in a group of 14 without a reservation. Though there was only 1 server working, and the manager was helping out with everything. Chase, the server, did his job well. He got all of the orders straight, he made sure that we all had what we needed, and he was good-natured even though he was quite busy. Patrick, the manager, helped to deliver our food to the table, and popped in with whatever he expected to be a need if Chase was busy with another group. The food was hot, plentiful, and not overly processed. We know it is difficult to hire servers right now, and that is honestly why this is 4 as opposed to 5 stars. The whole process is slowed down when so few workers must do it all. She finally agreed to call for the hostess, with some prompting, even though she had no customers at the bar at the time. The hostess then came out with my order, but it was missing items. Hmmmm... i can definitely say i saw the potential ... but something just wasn't sitting right with me. The food was not hot when it arrived and i was very disappointed by that. My husband ordered those honey bbq wings (they were amazing and hot) he ordered the elotes (he enjoyed it but it tasted very Americanized for me) and my son had the chicken nuggets meal in which were pretty tasty.
