We were headed to Jug Bay for an evening event with county parks and recs. GPS said want a shorter way? Sure. Except we bypassed every food place possible. This was literally the only place around. We were hungry. It's a hole in the wall little strip of shops on the service road. But you walk in and it's clean and bright and smells like fried chicken and BBq. A steady flow of people coming in. My only regret is not getting the cobbler. So what did we get? I got tenders and fries and both were fresh. Loved the wedge fries. Kiddo got pulled pork sandwich which he loved. Hubby got 3 piece fried chicken and wedges. Chicken was fresh out the fryer. Delicious. Also got a side of Mac and cheese. Cheesy goodness. I want more! Rest of the menu offerings were legit too. I hate to talk bad about food but this was terrible. The ribs was ok but greasy, the potato salad had no flavor. The baked beans was the weirdest mixture I ever had. I've eat BBQ all over the country, and this was the worse I have ever had. No garlic bread no sausage no sliced brisket. they gave me BBQ sauce that looked like melted butter I'm from Louisiana we have BBQ sauce not yellow melted butter looking stuff. We opted for pulled pork and a chicken breast. The pulled pork is good. Has a little tiny spice to it. The skin on the chicken was ok, but the meat lacked flavor. The pulled pork here is trash. The texture is extra mushy, there is no smoke flavor and no color to the meat. Smoked meat has a natural pink color. This stuff looks white when it comes yo you. There also is no hint of dry rub being used. The bark that normally assist with adding the flavor is non-existing. You can find much better BBQ without looking very hard. Food here was great! We ordered the 10 oz NC pulled pork platter with collard greens and mac n cheese which were all very tasty. I would definitely recommend the NC pulled pork and we absolutely loved the sweet BBQ sauce. We also ordered a 1/2 slab of ribs, and they were just okay. I really like fried chicken and am always disappointed when a restaurant, food truck, or whatever claims to have good fried chicken. So, I've been stuck with either Popeye's or 'the Colonel'. BUT, I tried Porkey's yesterday and all I can say is, "good bird!". I tried breasts and wings. They were all nice and crispy with herbs and spices a little like KFC but better. The breast was big and juicy with plenty of the crust one loves if one is a fried bird junky (like me!). The wings were really crispy but not dry nor chewy. Best bird I have had around here. If you like fried chicken give a try, you won't be sad. If you don't give it a try then you'll be thinking about Porkey's next time you have fried chicken anywhere else ("man, i wonder if that fat guy was right about the fried chicken at Porkey's). My wife had a pulled pork sandwich and was very happy. We had a few sides, just to check out how Porkey's does. Well, the sides really completed my meal -- hush puppies (just the right size), potato salad (i'm guessing made at Porkey's instead of Costco or Sam's), corn nuggets (sweet, crispy, and full of corn), cole slaw (NC vinegar/mustard style and really tasty), and beans (glorious beans! good BBQ flavor with some onion and pork). I am sure we will be back -- especially when the 'bird monster' in my belly starts screaming "feed me!" I almost forgot! The chicken definitely passed the 'next day' test. How can you not love some smokey, meaty and savory ribs on a spring day? After a nice walk around the local park, we popped in to grab lunch. Staring you smack in the (masked) face when you walk in is a display case overflowing with racks of ribs!!! There was no changing my mind at that point. Dry rub style and served with your choice of sauce, the "sandwich" is more like chopped ribs, on the bone, served between buns. It felt like a half rack was stacked into my sandwich, which came with house slaw and a drink (I opted for the sweet tea....obvi)! The ribs were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I went with the Kansas City style vinager and red pepper flakes sauce which helped balance the fatty and meaty flavor of the meat. My friends got some fried chicken which they said was delicious! The service was fast and friendly, they'll bring your order out to you for those who want to minimize their time indoors. And somehow you knew they were giving you that Southern Maryland smile behind the mask, even though you couldn't see it. What a treat! read more

We stopped here after a hike in Jug Bay preserve nearby. The owner was there and helped us with the menu. She was super friendly and rightfully proud of her food. The food far exceeded my expectations! I am a southerner by birth and VERY PICKY about barbecue and fried chicken, so I never expect to be totally happy when I stop at a place like this. It was really hard to decide what to get, it all looked so good. We chose the 2-piece fried chicken platter, the brisket sandwich. and a couple pork ribs. The chicken was perfect! The skin was crisp, and the flesh was juicy. The fried potato wedges that came with it were delicious too. The brisket sandwich was epic!!! That brisket is to die for! If she offers brisket the day you go, you MUST order it. It was fatty (it's supposed to be!) and moist, with burned edges and good barbecue sauce to go on it. I didn't have room for the coleslaw but it looks good, and I bet it is, considering how good the rest of the food is! The ribs are tender and super flavorful. It tastes like they had a dry rub on them, in addition to very delicious wet sauce. We couldn't finish all the food, so we saved some for later.
