My son requested that we try this restaurant for his birthday. We went at 5pm on a Friday night and the place was almost empty. The menu had a lot of pricey selections. Three of us ordered some form of barbecue and my oldest son ordered a burger. Unfortunately the food did not meet our expectations. The barbecue was dry and chewy....the ribs, the brisket...all of it was dry. However the service was very good. I did not complain about the food because I didn't want my son to feel bad about picking it on his birthday. A family of 4 that split an appetizer, ordered 4 dinners, with 2 waters and 2 iced teas and the bill was over $100 for sub-par barbecue (not including the tip). I had ordered a sirloin steak there and I'd asked if it to be a medium and a baked potato. Well when I got the food my steak was rare like red, dark red and my potato was dry and cold like it was the first thing to be cooked And when I asked my steak to be cooked further it came back as a medium rare. We tried to eat at this location this evening. It was around 6:30 pm. There was no hostess at the stand to seat us. We stood for over 10 minutes waiting to even be acknowledged before a waitress came over and sat us with menus. Then we sat waiting for the waitress to come take our drink orders. Had lunch at Smokey Bones on Tuesday January 30th. We had a great experience, I had the full rack of ribs. The ribs were very tender and cooked just right. The sweet potato fries were spot on. Our server Deb was wonderful she checked back frequently to see if we needed anything. She was very personable and nice. Our food arrived promptly and everything was right with the order. Took our adult son for his birthday. We were a large party of 15 people. Philip was our waiter and he did a fantastic job of taking care of us. He was very friendly and attentive. I've driven by this place several times and wondered what it was like. No surprise, it looks like most bbq joints. Service wasn't bad at the bar except I asked to have the Pens game put on and they never pit it up on any of the 11 screens they have. Food however was rather disappointing. Had a 1 favorite + st Louis rbs. The meats were very dry and tough and the sides were nothing that stood out. Smokey Bones... you need to look at other bbq chains like Memphis BBQ or Famous Dave's to figure out your product. I enjoy bbq, but not what you served unfortunately. read more

I went out to lunch today with my husband and son we went to Smokey bones and Cranberry township. Inconsistent. Poor quality of service and Quality Control. ' We order the Tuesday Special (two for one half chicken with two sides and garlic bread) nearly every week. Approximately forty-five dollars. SAME ORDER. We request the bread packaged completely separately (Celiac family members) and each half chicken packaged separately (so we can use the box as our plate and take leftovers to work). Well Done. It also took several weeks for my account and my cell # to be linked. Never received a membership card until the Manager gave me one. One time the chicken will be covered in BBQ sauce. The next time...dry. Breads in a separate bag...next time wrapped in paper in each box. One time all four halves were in ONE BOX. Not all sides are included. No salad dressing with the salad. My chicken yesterday was BRIGHT PINK inside (see WELL DONE above). Sometimes sour cream and butter are included; sometimes not...though ALWAYS requested. Now, we unpack each to-go bag on the waiting area couches and check everything thoroughly (but I did not cut INTO the chicken yesterday prior to paying). We have in the past ordered the Happy Hour *Cheeseburger*. The receipt said *Cheeseburger*. Must I say it? I no longer leave the restaurant until I check the entire order (I've had to return several times in the past). They ARE generous when asked for extra KC Barbeque sauce. Using the Smokey Bones website to contact Corporate has been useless. Never a response back from them...though Manager Tom and District Manager Kayla have been receptive. Its a chain. Food was good. Not a lot of flair, but I was not expecting that from a chain. It was quite good. I had smoked Chicken Breast. Was moist and great flavor. My spouse had salmon, and was dissatisfied. Others had steaks, ribs. They enjoyed. That is what Smokey Bones is....Barbeque and smoked meats. They do that consistently well. We were part of a large group on a busy Saturday night. Service was a bit slower than expected. This was the grossest greasy food I've ever had anywhere. I ate because it was after two days' fast and waiting over an hour smelling the delicious aromas had me so starving. But the food was gross. The soft pretzel sticks appetizer was served in a literal pool of grease. The garlic bread was made I swear with grease and not butter, it tasted like it was just dunked in the fryer. The ribs were ok, but kind of dry, and the fries were ok The only awesome part of the meal that I really enjoyed were the cinnamon apples. The pace of service was awful, the single waiter we had was doing his absolute best and I felt so terrible for him as I think he was the only one working on a Saturday night. But it's hard not to mention it when you're thirsting to death from the overly salty food and you just can't get a drink. They could solve this problem easily by putting a pitcher on your table especially if everyone is drinking the same thing. read more

Such a great experience from the food to the workers! We went to try their new Mega Milkshakes and left super satisfied. Our waitress Patricia was phenomenal and very attentive! We started off with the Mag Nacho which had double cheddar cheese, pulled roasted chicken, and house smoked pulled pork. They were definitely some of the best loaded nachos I've had around Pittsburgh. Plus they were huge and could've probably been our whole meal, but we are ambitious. For dinner, I made my own burger with some delicious buffalo garlic sauce, blue cheese, an egg, onion straws, and bacon on a ciabatta bun. It was really good and even better for my lunch leftovers! My boyfriend had a BBQ pick three platter. He got smoked pulled pork, sausage, and Carolina Mopping Sauce wings. I loved all the different sauce options they had for your BBQ. This BBQ platter came with baked beans, garlic bread and a baked potato. Plenty of good food for two hungry people! The manager, Mark was one of the most hospitable and passionate people that I've met in the food industry. He was extremely informative and sat down to talk with us about the company for a while. The different signature dishes they have all sound great. When we come back I'm certainly trying the cornbread skillet and smoked wings. When we finished packing up our dinner that we only had half of in order to save room for our milkshakes, we ordered an Oreo and chocolate cake mega shake. These are unreal! Be prepared to fill up your belly with lots of amazing flavors. The chocolate cake is INCREDIBLE. We both loved it, but I preferred the actual shake in the Oreo one. Wanted to stop and try the all you can eat wings for $14.99 for March madness. I was seated and asked about ordering the wings, my waitress which was very nice told me if I wanted the all you can eat wings I had to sit at the bar. Well I'm not comfortable sitting at the bar and I guess this also means there is no all you can eat wings for anybody under 21? So since I wasn't comfortable sitting at the bar I ordered a crispy buffalo chicken sandwich. I really wanted to try the wings but I wasn't paying $20 for 12 wings when I was 10 ft from the bar where I could get 12 wings for $14.99. The crispy buffalo sandwich sucked. It was a "spicy" chicken tender literally cut in half. Was supposed to have a buffalo sauce and blue cheese crumbles on it. Nope! No buffalo sauce and no blue cheese. So I got a "spicy" chicken tender cut in half on a bun with lettuce, tomato and onion. For this meal, a $3.60 fountain coke and tip was $24. Meh, I'd say they have earned most of their low ratings. Slow service, dry brisket, watery grilled salmon. All they did well were the potatoes. So they have that going for them. The barbecue sauces had good flavor. Took 20 minutes to seat us when there were 4 open tables the whole time. Seems.like the wait staff bus their own tables, which probably explains the slow service. Took 40 minutes for food to get to the table, as the place was emptying out.
