The food was excellent, but the service was terrible, we had to wait 20 minutes after seating to get acknowledged when sitting at the bar ask for a Diet Coke. We had asked three times for a Diet Coke. Never got brought a menu when we placed our order. We ordered wings and nachos with blue cheese and ranch then when our meal got served, we never got utensils or napkins or ranch or blue cheese or side plates. We waited 10 minutes and then I got up and I headed toward the kitchen to ask for silverware and they were just brought silverware no side plate so I had to get up again and asked for side plates and then I got Coke was gone. We had asked three more times to get a refill and still no ranch or blue cheese two different couple sat next to us after we sat down they got served first without any acknowledgment of us, halfway through our meal we ordered a plate to go because we were going to a celebration party and the food was really good so we thought we'd bring the host some wings and upon placing that order we ordered another diet Coke again and we had to ask three more times when arriving they said there was no tables available because they had major reservations and half the restaurant was filled when we left there was only like 10 tables that were occupied. I feel it was a little bit of discrimination. Due to the fact that other people walked in front of us and back of us and they got seated and they told us there was no seats available. Had dinner with the family at this Smokey Bones on 28th street. It took about an hour to get our food once we were seated. The ribs were pretty good but everything else was terrible. The salad had a lot of brown and wilted lettuce, steak was over done, the pulled pork was extremely dry and the mashed potatoes just tasted awful. When the issues were brought to the manager he was rude and was only willing to remove the steak from our bill because we ate a small portion of the pork. First let me say I have been to this Smokey Bones location 28th St SE, Grand Rapids, MI.many many times and have always enjoyed the food, however I went there this past Sat 10/19/19 and frankly was very disappointed with the meal I was served. I ordered The Bone-Fire, bad idea, the ribs were burnt so bad that you could tell that the meat had actually caught fire and the black severely burnt meat was just laying there on the grill. This made for very burnt tasting and super dry meat, the wings were the dry also. I looked for the steak that was supposed to be with the meal and it wasn't there so the waiter had to go back and get that. Potato wedges were also to dry to consume. Needless to say I paid for a meal $46 that didn't eat. When the waitress came with the bill and saw the majority food still on the plate, she asked did we not enjoy our food and agreed with my explanation that it was not acceptable and left to go and talk to the manager, the manager on duty never came to talk to us and told her to give us a bag of DONUTS.and dipping sauce. If I had wanted donuts for dinner I would not have come there to pay $46 for them. I am very upset at this point and even though they have by far the best ribs and smoked chicken in Grand Rapids I'm not sure if I'll recommend or be back. By the way we waited over a hour to get our burnt meal. The only thing I can say positive about this visit is that we had a polite wonderful waitress which was not even assigned to our table, but after seeing how long we had been sitting there and not even acknowledged she came over and said they were short staffed that night but she would be right with us and she was. Super unimpressed with management & staff, poor attitudes, very unaccommodating & rude. Within two minutes of being there was told I couldn't have the drink I ordered, which was on their menu, because they were out of vodka (um...WHAT?!). Then was told couldn't have smoked wings, again, from their menu, because they were out. Three of the meals for our group came out incorrect and the waitress had zero sympathy/desire to correct the error on either her or the kitchen staff's part. So... I live in Texas. Purchased gift cards at Costco while visiting family in Grand Rapids. Tried the 28th St location today. First, the portion was very small for an almost $16 meal. Then as I'm eating the onion rings, I start chewing something very rubbery. Well, it was an onion skin. Going to see if Costco accepts returns on the gift cards. Not a good experience at Smokey Bones, and i'm thinking it's time for new management or closure. read more

Worst dining experience I've had in a very long time. My party was not greeted at the door. When someone finally came to seat us, she was rude and unhelpful. First and last time coming here. We ordered an appetizer, drinks, and food for the kids with an understanding that she would come back to take an order for the adults. She zipped by us several times, took other orders (for guests seated after us)....never asked us again if we were ready to order. Another waitress brought the kids food and the appetizer and asked us if we needed anything else. We told her we still needed to order for the adults. She said our waitress would come back to us.....seriously??!! We finally had to start waving our arms in the air to get her attention. I asked her if we could finish our order and she gave us attitude "after I help the other customers". She only had 3 tables at the time. We had been seated first. She took their orders and entered them in the system and never came back for our orders. She totally forgot about us and was irritated we called her out I'm guessing. We waited patiently for 45 minutes for her to come back. That is plenty of time given the number of customers in the restaurant, wait staff shortages, the kitchen being backed up, etc.... Also, it doesn't look good when the waitress is chewing a large mouthful of food while she is out on the floor. She didn't take the menus away so our table was crowded with extra items. We were sitting for over an hour before the main part of our food order was delivered. Family and I decided to give SB a try since we don't have one in the town we live in. BIG mistake! I should have acted on my Spidey Senses that started firing upon our arrival. The garbage can that sat outside the entrance pretty much summed up our visit. The lid was torn off, no trash bag in the bin, and it looked like the trash had been marinating in there since last spring. Oh, and how could I forget the grass around the front step littered with cigarette butts. It took about four different employees to walk by us without any acknowledgment before getting sat. My husband ordered Mag Nachos to which the server replies "I think we should have the meat for those. We were out of pulled pork and chicken this morning." Twenty or so minutes later the server returns and says: "we are out of tortilla chips for your nachos." Husband chooses a different menu item. She comes back and says, "I guess we have tortilla chips now. The manager ran out and got some." While waiting for the manager to make a grocery run for our tortilla chips, I had to use the restroom. Let's just say I had to dodge a couple of puddles of what looked like brown sludge dripping from the ceiling. This was not a new leak as one of the ceiling tiles was removed. There was no "Caution Wet Floor sign" or even a bucket to catch the sludge. It just dripped down the wall. I could keep going but I think you get the point. The food was way over priced and very poor quality. The service was decent. Do yourself a favor and save the $70, which is what it cost our family of four. So disappointed!! read more

I've been coming there for years and all I see is new people and same ole laziness from the Management. Well first and last time we go, waitress was nice but it took awhile for the food and it didn't even come out all together, I was missing my fries which is the easiest thing to cook, burger was supposed to be well done and it was pink. Not happy with the service or food! I ordered takeout online and it was supposed to be ready at 6:15, it wasn't ready until 6:40. The wings I ordered were sold out which they didn't tell me until 5 mins before I got the order. When I got home I realized the order was not only wrong but also missing a whole rack of ribs. When I called to complain, the woman I spoke with was very rude and asked if I checked the order before I left insinuating that it's my problem the order was wrong. When I asked for the manager she said he was busy and couldn't talk and he would credit my card. I said I was not happy and would and would not be going to the restaurant again. This was the worst experience for the second time I've ever had. First time we sat for 20-30 minutes without service we left. We decided to try again sat for another 25 minutes this time with our child. The manager did nothing didn't give a crap he was the worst supervisor and shouldn't be a manager. You didn't care you didn't try to make it right nothing. The server was busy yeah I understand but to seriously not care? I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Wow, this place has really gone downhill. We visited on a Sunday for lunch, and were very disappointed. The woman seating us couldn't get off her phone, so despite our asking for a standard height table, she directed us to a booth. I asked again for a standard height table, but she was still talking on her phone and brought us to a high top. I asked a third time and she finally listened and gave us a 1/2 booth 1/2 table, which by that time was going to have to do. Our server was distracted the entire meal. She initially refused to make a milkshake, saying she was too tired. The food took more than 60 minutes to arrive, and was cold and undercooked. We won't be back. Went here tonight and my bartender haley had the bat under control. Nice and clean. Was very friendly. Gave me excellent bar service if you ask me. The best around. Food was good. We visited back in August 2018 and was very disappointed due to the lack of AC when it's 90+ flipping degrees outside. Their kitchen had to be well over 120 degrees. Our waitress was amazing, but what a terrible experience overall. The workers are drenched in sweat, and I'm sure the cooks sweat into every meal....and I can't say I blame them! By the end of my meal I myself, and the rest of my party couldnt get out of there fast enough. Never thought I'd walk outside in 90+ degree temps to cool off! You should be ashamed of yourselves for allowing this to continue. That poor staff looked miserable despite trying to keep up a friendly demeanor. We have been here multiple time. In the beginning the food was ok, but the service has NEVER been good. Few months back we went and sat at the bar, waited about 15 minutes to even get served. When we did we ordered drinks and food at same time. Food came out and was not even good. The cornbread came out burnt, the nachos were cold and boneless wings were not even prepared correctly. The bartender never even came back once to check on 1thing!.. we actually left the food and had to get our bill from a manager. So the following day I called to talk to a manager... a gentleman answered and explained the situation to him. Told me sir we would like to take care of your next bill . Come back and dinner is on us. So we did talked to another manager when we returned he claims no manager would ever say that!! Very rude to us!!! Asked who our server was we pointed out who he immediately said won't be her because she's been on a hiatus ( we said 100% sure it was her! ).manager said people like you scam us all the time.
