They had a new appetizer - fried green tomatoes - which I have always wondered about so we got those! They were okay, very garlicky and the tomatoes inside were pretty watery so the batter couldn't hold up once they were cut in half. Interesting but nothing spectacular to me. I love Cuban paninis so that was an easy choice- the pork was delicious and juicy and the pickles were thick-cut and very good. Also a nice crunch on the outside of the bread while leaving the inside soft and chewy. I really liked the mason jars for the drinks- it was a cool touch! Overall, the food was okay, but I still prefer a certain Roadhouse for BBQ/ribs/comfort food! I had been to Smokey Bones a few times years ago, when they first opened. I lived in Greensburg at the time and it was convenient place to go. At the time, I wasn't very impressed with the food or the service. The food was okay, but nothing special. The service, well...it was just lacking. You would have one person take your drink order, another bring you your food, another check on you...it was just odd. Since that time, I've been back on a handful of occasions and both the service and food seem to have gotten slightly better. My last experience was a few weeks ago, when I went for a late lunch with my mom and aunt. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. And patient. My aunt wanted ribs but couldn't decide what sauce. She said she had something she liked last time, but could remember what it was. He was kind enough to bring over a plate and put some sauces on it so she could test it out. Did she want original or the sweet sauce? She didn't know. So, he suggested putting the original sauce on the ribs and give her a side of the sweet one; she was happy with that. I taste-tested it too and thought that the original sauce was extremely bland. My biggest con is the same I have with a lot places - the menu is simply too big and busy. I don't want to flip back and forth through pages and pages. And, plus, no restaurant can simply be good at making all of that. And....you know some not-so-popular items are sitting around for a while not being ordered or eaten. I wasn't extremely hungry, so I went for the Stacked Baked Potato & Salad. The baked potato came with pulled pork, cheese, scallions, and sour cream. The salad was a decent size...the balsamic dressing was just okay. But, I did underestimated the size, it was a lot to eat, and also came with a piece of garlic toast (the frozen kind) - all of $7.69. Not too bad. Overall, I was pleased with my meal, as were my mom and my aunt. It's not the best place to go, but definitely not the worst choice in Greensburg. read more

I haven't been to a smokey bones in forever and there happened to be one very convenient for lunch while working. I ordered the pulled pork lunch combo with double broccoli. Unbelievably terrible service and food quality and order completion is the only way to state it. I am one to hardly ever complain about food and service, but after this experience, it is truly necessary. While we have frequented this eatery for a number of years, and had been relatively satisfied with the food (cocktail are absolutely sub-par, so tasteless for the price that we neven order them here)), our first curbside pickup experience was a total travesty. While I cringe to think of writing it all, the take home facts are: we waited 13 minutes past time (being the only curbside patrons), I had to call three times from the car before the late order was finally delivered, was told that, yes, the order was complete (found half of the meals missing when we arrived home, with literally pounds of bulk fries filling the food containers instead of meals), and that it was fresh (it was a mixture in fact as half was not hot, and half was undercooked), and when calling to notify them once reaching home, was told they would call back after dinner time (they did not, we had to call back a few hours later). Once we discussed the situation, we were told that they would give us the missing meals next time we ordered. WT...? There will, obviously, be no "next time." Such terrible customer service on top of terrible order completion is just not cutting it, guys. Needless to say, this is our last time at any Smokey Bones. We were just trying to help out a local franchise. I suggest you take your business elsewhere, as we will. read more

Worst meal ever and subpar service. I visited this place at 10pm and it was filthy. Plenty of help there but nobody wanted to bus the tables. The first hamburger I ordered was medium and they over cooked it and it tasted nasty, rancid, and I about spit it out. The worst part was watching all the staff loaf around avoiding cleaning. Went here a couple of times with Rick Springfield while on tour. It was yummy awesome! Food was good! Service was great! The first night I ate nutty chicken salad with a small side of Mac & Cheese and washed it down with a couple of Yingljng's on tap. The salad could have used a few more nuts and a little more chicken but it was good. Night two I ordered the smoked bbq chicken sandwich with fries. It's was awesome! The sandwich have just the right combination of everything! Delicious! I once again enjoyed an ice cold and thirst quenching Yingling chilled to perfection. Good BBQ just seems to taste better with ice cold beer. They have a limited desert selection with only three item on the menu and although I didn't order one some of the others at my table did and the chocolate cake looked amazing. Ordered the Crispy chicken tacos and The Volcano Burger. Quite possibly the most embarrassing food I've seen placed in front of me and I've eaten in South Korea at restaurants inside of a cave. The Tacos came out in small flour tortillas, they were cut up chicken strips "mostly breading" with a couple slices of jalapenos. Nothing else. The plate was so hot you couldnt touch it and the tortillas were crunchy like stale chips. Volcano burger: was a frozen watery patty and this too sat under the heat lamp well over 20 minutes. When the food arrived the bread crumbled like stale bread. I removed the bun and attempted to eat the burger with a fork and knife....it was like eating a wet sponge..."1 slice" of jalapeno on the "volcano" burger. The service wasnt terrible however when I said I wasnt eating the burger they left it sit in front if me for 10 minutes before coming back for it. I was not looking for a free meal but $11 for tacos that were horrible and looked like a 4 year made them is pathetic. I could have gotten a better burger and taco at McDonalds and Tacobell. We are in town for a family event, and stayed next door, so for convenience purposes, we came to Smokey Bones. I kinda wish we went somewhere cool and different, but the long drive had me worn out. I got the fried pickles, onion rings and ribs. Everything was good. I felt like the ranch was overly salty. I've not met a ranch I didn't like before. All those items including the salad came with ranch dressing, and every variation was a bit salty. Other than that, it was a decent place for a quick dinner. read more

My wife noticed that the corners of the restaurant and along the base boards were completely black from dirt piling up over the years and no one cleaning it out.... So an F for that.... Though this is a super confident spot to my hotel, the food wasn't worth the price. I wasn't greeted when I walked in last night. Had one server/host stand up from a booth in the bar area, look at me and then sat back down. I took a quick look around and saw that all the customers were seated in the bar area. I went to the car and sat at the bar itself. The bartender greeted me right away. She was social with everyone at the bar. I ordered the Brisket sandwich with fries. It took a little longer to come out than I thought it should. One customer at the bar ordered chicken tenders a good 10 minutes after me and both our food came out at the same time. The sandwich was smothered in cheese. I guess it was like that to cover up the fact there was little brisket on the sandwich and that it was over cooked to almost burnt. It was not tender or moist, but brittle and dry. The cook should have let the bartender know that the meat was not good for serving. But he didn't. The bartender, fries, Yuengling, & close proximity to hotel are the places only redeeming values on this place on this night. I sat at the bar where I could look into the kitchen (not intentionally) and happened to look up and could see them putting my food in the microwave. After repeated visits, I'm upgrading Smokey Bones to four stars. I've become a fan of their pulled pork-- I think the dryness I mentioned in my previous review was an anomaly, because it's been great ever since then. I still recommend using a mix of their sauces as they're quite good. My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich topped with cole slaw. Other meat options are good as well; my husband is picky about ribs but does like the baby back ribs. The smoked chicken breast is delicious. A friend vouches for the sausage. You can't go wrong with sides, either-- my new favorite is the onion rings, but I don't think I've tried anything I didn't like. While the grilled options are good, there are better burgers in town, so I'd recommend sticking to barbecue. They have a good variety of beers on tap, servers are friendly, and prices are reasonable (the sandwiches are pretty cheap, and the combo plates are a bit pricier but not a bad deal for the portion size). Also, they're open until 2 AM, so it's nice to have a non-fast-food option if for some reason you're hungry in Greensburg past 10 PM. It's still a chain, and still not good ol' southern barbecue, but when the craving hits it's a solid choice. read more

Well, I almost never write a one-star review...I'm generally a "glass half full" kind of guy. But this restaurant deserves it so badly, I just had to write it. I've been here once, and it was a complete disaster. I mean, in every way. First, it took forever to get our orders taken. We weren't all given silverware or napkins, and no ketchup was given to my group of 12 people, even though everyone around us had it on their table. After ordering, we waited nearly an hour for the food. it came out over the course of 15 minutes, so some people were done by the time others were getting food. Overall, the service was HORRIBLE. No one paid any attention to our table, even though the restaurant was pretty empty. Getting our check took another 45 minutes. What a nightmare. The food was prepared pretty badly, with a lot of our dishes cold. My pulled pork sandwich was decent enough tastewise, but it contained about 5 tablespoons worth of pork on a giant bun. Along with this, I was served 10(no joke) fries. I've never had a more unappealing meal...the plate was almost empty! I'd never go again. We sat for 15 mins and no one had came over to get our drinks or order. We spoke to a manager. She was blonde. Didn't seem to care. 2 stars because we really enjoyed Smokey Bones when we first moved here over a year ago. The bartenders were nice. Just a nice place to have a drink and some wings. BUT the last few times we went it has just gone down hill. The end of Sept we were in for my daughters birthday dinner. The waitress forgot to bring some of our order because she didn't enter it into the computer and then the brisket was TERRIBLE! For a BBQ joint it should be top notch! However it wasn't cut right and it was also very hard(like it had been there for awhile). Last night we went again and our waitress Ashley K was terrible! We ordered right away so were sitting at our table and we can see our food just sitting in the window for quite some time while she was hanging out with other employees around the bar talking and laughing loudly. We actually thought about going to get our food out of the window to see if that would get her attention and when the food came she had forgot some so that came out later. At least the fries were hot and fresh! When we were done we asked for the check and she asked if we wanted dessert and we said no she rolled her eyes as if she was annoyed. The only reason I come to this establishment is for the Steak Salad and Brisket. Both are great dishes but I wouldn't get too adventurous with the menu...steaks tend to be overcooked, we've yet to be ever given silverware before our meals get there, draft beer is slightly warm, all of the servers and hosts seem too busy gossiping to one another or otherwise not paying attention to guests. One visit really sticks out in my mind, I had ordered a MR steak and received it WD. I sent it back and 15 mins later another WD steak comes out! When I asked to see the manager the waitress OPENLY ROLLED HER EYES at me and muttered something that sounded like "Jesus christ just eat your food." I couldn't believe it! Manager comped my meal but I left it there. What a total waste of an evening. If you're looking for a good steak with excellent service, you're better off trying Texas Roadhouse just up the road by Lowe's across from McDonalds. read more

My sister goes to medical school in Greensburg, PA and a few weeks ago I was helping her move into her new apartment. She had been to it before and suggested stopping in for a quick bite to eat. When we arrived we were seated immediately and got a table in the bar. One thing I noticed right away was the floors in the bar were so slick and the chair I sat down on almost slid out from underneath me. The floors weren't wet or anything. The chairs just slide around quite a bit. Definitely a little unsafe! Anyway, the menu is quite vast and my sister and I split the Tuscan mac and cheese entree with a side of onion rings and the loaded baked potato. Super healthy right?!? All the food was pretty good however I was quite surprised by the prices. Coming from Chicago I'm used to paying quite a bit to dine out however I wasn't expecting small town PA to have comparably high prices. Would this stop me from coming back? Having used to work here I was surprised at how bad it got here. Food took longer than expected even on a slow day and one staff member was very rude. My friend also stated his opinion as his father received the wrong side and got fries instead of a baked potato.
