I sat at the bar and was the only one and it took five minutes before the bartender noticed I was there got my drink got my food thought we were on the right track then she disappeared right after bringing my food and never came back to askabout another drink, more water, desserts, or anything. I sat for probably 25 to 30 minutes with no contact and was almost ready to walk out before she finally came back and asked if I wanted another drink. They should just laugh at you when ordering and say, "We just serve meat and carbs." * My younger child's "cheeseburger" must have been sitting under a warmer for a while before they decided to throw some cheese on it right before bringing it to the table 10 minutes late bc it wasn't melted in the slightest. Just crap. First, picked the food up asked for extra bbq sauce, mainly wanted something different than their generic sugar sauce. Was told their already was extra in there. There wasn't, in fact even that nasty stuff there was barely any of it. Ordered the BBQ Mixed Grill amongst other items. This was by far the worst. It was so bad, the rest doesn't even matter. The skewers were 75% onion and bell peppers. I don't think they even made the food correctly. Other than the bologna, which was actually good, the only other meat I think were supposed to be burnt ends but they were just huge pieces of fat with slivers of uncooked meat. Terrible. Tried calling to complain but got nowhere. I already had a feeling from past experience with this chain in general, and especially this location, its really hit or miss, with miss usually being the case. But this was by far the worst. Never eating here again. Problem is, there isn't crap for BBQ in this area. It's a chain, etc., I get it. In general I have beef with most chain restaurants, but I will give them their props so long as they're doing their food right. Smokey Bones misses the mark. When I got into grad school, I went out with my now wife and my mom to celebrate. Not knowing anything about this place other than they serve bbq, I was happy to check it out. They actually let you choose which style of ribs you would like to go with (which I thought was pretty cool). I've had almost every style (Texas, Memphis, etc...) except for St. Louis, so I thought I'd try out the St. Louis style ribs. Disappointing. Perhaps it was my fault for getting hyped about this place, but eating my food, and trying the memphis style my wife ordered, I just wasn't feeling it. I know there is a limited number of bbq places in the EL area, but any true bbq fan should not bother wasting their time. Food inconsistencies are pretty consistent. Today I got served the worst nachos. My guacamole came out brown. It made it past the cook and the server that way. So this is obviously a pretty standard example of their method of cooking and quality control which actually appears to be non existent. I won't get into detail of the rest of the nachos but I was disappointed and sent half back. My son's apples were extremely hot and some were very cold. His macaroni and cheese came unstirred. We could have gotten the same or more quality food from the freezer section at meijer for $1 and reheated it ourselves in a microwave like they apparently did. We went right after work and the place was fairly full, but not too busy. We received fast service; drinks, food, etc. We ordered drinks: Patron Perfections, which was good but not super strong tequila-wise. Also, ordered a Sailing the Tropics Mule; very tasty and tropical and comes with a pineapple garnish. We split the Magnachos (pulled pork and chicken on top) and the Pulled Pork Tacos. The Nachos were amazing and huge, you definitely need to split these! As for the tacos, they were super juicy in a bad way, the juice just pour out of the taco when I tried to eat it (it makes it super messy!). There was also too much BBQ on the pork and the shells just tasted store bought. Overall, drinks and nachos are winners! I don't recommend the tacos. Based on how great the meat on the nachos was, I would say its safe to assume the other menu items are pretty good. They changed their menu and some recipes lately. Stick to the smoked meats--the ones with the SB icon on the menu. We used to go here every couple weeks for the smoked wings, but they suddenly got very salty with the menu change and we had to stop ordering them after several desperate tries. Now we love the baby back ribs and the nutty chicken salad. They also changed the ambiance, removing the drive-in movie style audio tuners at each booth and wallpapering the place with annoying marketing. We rarely go there now. read more

Now being as Red Robin sets the standard for delicious burgers it's only right I compare this to Red Robin. I firmly believe this burger is so good it could be on the Red Robin's menu! I would give negative stars if I could. I wanted to take my boyfriend here because he's never been to a Smokey Bones, and I've been to a handful in several locations. We came in today around 1:30. I had to use the bathroom immediately, when I came out, he still had not been greeted or assisted to a table. That was at least 5 minutes. So much for the 1 min greet industry standard. We decided to sit at the bar after making eye contact with 2 servers, a cook (who left with a togo box), the manager checking the expo line for completed side work I am assuming, since all 3 FOH employees and 2 BOH saw that we were there, but all too busy to acknowledge our presence. We picked out what drinks and food we wanted after reading the menus, still waiting for a greet. I watched who I am assuming is the bartender since she was behind the bar, make a drink and take it to 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant. Why is your bartender taking tables clear across the restaurant when she doesn't have time to greet the only 2 guests at the bar? You had a maximum of 15 guests in house including myself and my boyfriend, and yet 20 minutes later and still no hello, I'll be right with you, nothing. If you want to make money, a greeting comes with eye contact ALWAYS. To make matters worse, when we were finally fed up and left so did 1 of the 3 tables there, so I know they were cashed out for at least 5 of my 20 minutes there. Horrible. read more

First, when we walked in there were two "stations", on the left hand side a guy was working and didn't greet us, the right one was empty so we went to where the guy was and he said "are you here for pick up" we replied "no just need a table for two" so he told us to go to the empty station. After five minutes of standing there awkwardly a couple walked up to that guy that was still standing at his station and asked if they needed to pay at the table or come to him and pay. There was our second hint at maybe we should find a different restaurant, despite the 3 star rating on Yelp. Finally the hostess comes up and very un-eagerly assists us. She says she has to clean a table. We get to our table, which has loads of napkins and wrappers on the ground underneath it so we have to be careful where we put our feet when we go to sit down. Our waitress was fine, not the normal "waitress attitude" I'm used to with an outgoing bubbly attitude. We ordered wings as an appetizer and they were the best!! I would definitely order these as a takeout item to feed my family! My other half ordered the meal that comes in the mini fire pit/grill with wings, ribs, sausage, pulled pork etc. And I had ordered the Mag Nachos. Our waitress asked if we wanted both of these items out at the same time and we stated yes. His meal came out 10-15 minutes before mine, which was fine because we planned on sharing our meals anyways. it was a warm meal and cooled off fast. For it coming out on the grill thing it didn't have any grill markings and was just kind of blah and rubbery I guess you could say. Again, the best part was the wings on his meal! And when mine finally came out it was just a little warm. Not piping hot. The under-layer of cheese wasn't even melted, it was still shredded. My two drinks that I ordered were okay. I couldn't even finish my second one, a captain and coke, because of the overly sweetened Coca Cola flavor. Our bill was $87 for just a fair meal and experience. On a mission to try a new restaurant my family of 4 headed to Smokey Bones. The wait was about 10 minutes, not bad. The waitress was very attentive, knowledgeable and answered all our questions patiently. I'll give it to the woman, she kept our drinks refilled. I was barely 1/2 way done with my first Coke when she magically appeared with a second one. The atmosphere is nice, table was clean. However it was annoying not being able to view the TVs from our table due to the blah hanging boards, especially when you know it's a big game on and you can hear the crowd in the bar area cheering their jubilees for all jubilation to hear. It was also irritating to get asked to close & adjust the shades at our booth and the others around us because other peoples retinas were being burnt by the setting sun's glare (can we say custom cut blinds? Ooh! Or better yet tint the windows or something...please). And now if you would... drum roll please... The food was freaking....TERRIBLE!! Let's start with the sauce, sitting in squeeze bottles with no seals or caps, not only seemed very unsanitary, but it tasted like it was going bad/sour/rancid (don't ask how I know that unforgettable taste, the story gets locked away in the "1st apartment horrors" file). Our appetizer was the four bread sticks, almost $9 for this?! It was good but not that dang good! I ordered the brisket, which tasted and looked like pre-cooked, pre-sliced, supposedly honey baked, grocery store variety, RE-COOKED ham. There was nothing briskety about it at all. "No baby you don't have to eat that." My son had the steak, which made him the only person at the table who didn't complain about the taste of their meal, thus the two stars; however I had to cut it for him which meant I got to have a taste - toughest piece of rubber this side of the gum tree. Mr. "I just loss two molars" (he's still growing) also complained about his lacking ability to chew the steak, however because of the recent missing teeth, it's hard to say if for him it was the meat or his tender gums. The food is pretty good here, especially the stuffed burgers. Prices are average depending on what you're used to maybe even a little high. The customer service is TERRIBLE. After making a reservation here 3 weeks ago and calling today to confirm, we were informed by the manager that they do not make reservations for the weekend and that it is impossible that we did so and she went on to essentially read us the policy and repeat herself several times when we would try to explain to her that we understand but we did make the reservation. Lady, you are a freaking manager dealing with customers! No one gives a crap to hear your policy over and over. instead of telling us that we are wrong why don't you just apologize and try to find a solution. or at least say there is nothing you can do but you are sorry for the incompetence of whoever it was that made the reservation which since only a manager can do, might have been you!
