It was alright. Great drinks, good service, decent food. I'd rather it be in a different order and combination of words, but it wasn't terrible. We went for a weekday dinner and it wasn't busy at all. Upon walking in, there was no host/hostess standing at the table so it was me just wandering around. Then someone came up to say that someone would be with me in a second, which was even more awkward. But once seated, there was a good 5-6 minute wait until someone came to our table. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful with both the drinks, appetizers, and food selections. She was accommodating towards what we said we were hungry and thirsty for, which was nice. It took a pretty average amount of time for our food to come. I had a Cuban sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich was alright, the pork was a little dry and unpleasantly chewy in some spots. The bread didn't seem fresh and I only ended up eating half of the sandwich. The side salad was pitiful, perhaps only 10-15 small sprigs of romaine lettuce with a few onions, a tomato, and slices of cucumber and a WHOPPING amount of dressing on the side. I was very underwhelmed. So the biggest part I was looking forward to was the doughnuts, and it was the biggest disappointment. They were skinny, overfried, incredibly crunchy to the point it came to us in endless pieces in the bag, like they were running out of batter and didn't want to make more. The taste was there, but the quality control was just terrible. The usual highlight and peak of coming here turned out to be the reason I probably won't come back - not the product itself, but the lack of pride by serving something like that. read more

Well, I gave Smokey Bones 3 tries, and this last was strike 3. I had there babyback ribs the first 2 times, and both times they were flavorless. They tasted watery, as if they had been steamed instead of smoked. Tonight, I ordered their weekend special 16 oz prime rib. First, their horseradish sauce was almost pure mayonnaise. I asked for raw, and the server said that's all they had, and brought out a 'fresher' batch...which was just a bigger serving of the same sauce. The manager came out, said that "mayonnaise is what horseradish is". I asked again if they had raw horseradish, she said yes, and brought out a creamy version. I used it, because they didn't seem to have or know what raw horseradish is, and proceeded to my medium cooked prime rib. Well, it was overcooked, nearly well done, and dry. Pros: The wings are amazing. The pickle fries were also top notch. Tried the sangria and it was pretty delicious. PBR 16oz cans are only $2.50. Not bad. The wait to be sat on a Saturday night at around 5pm was less than 5 minutes. Cons: I ordered my burger med-well after asking the waitress how well the kitchen does on following cooking temps. I explained I'd rather order it medium and have it come out med well than order it med well if that means it'll come out well done... aka dry. She assured me that the staff is awesome at this and I took her advise and ordered my burger medium well... my burger was drier than the Sahara desert. it was literally crumbling apart as I was trying to eat it. Also, I ordered brisket on it that was barely existent. All around, it was pretty disappointing. Definitely not worth the $14 bucks I paid for it. Sweet potato fries were also pretty lame for the price. I've had better ones at Applebee's. Bottom line- if I was only in the mood for some wings (Monday is all you can eat after 9 for like 10 bucks if you purchase a drink), I would definitely come here for them. They are pricey ($11 for 8) but they are worth it. If I'm in the mood for just about anything else, I doubt I'd shell out the dough to eat here. Much better, cheaper options around town. read more

Decided to introduce the in-laws to this chain. This is a first visit for my wife and I to THIS particular location, however we have eaten at a couple other locations in the past which were excellent. The service was mediocre.. The fish I ordered was not cooked properly. Even IF the fish were awesome, the portions were very small for the price.. Cole Slaw was good and the fries were cold... Just NOT a good item to order. Customer service is great, constantly checking up to make sure we're doing okay and if we need any water. First time here. Smelled amazing when we walked in. Had a 15-20 minute wait for our table but we'll worth the wait. Our waitress seated us and got our drink orders right away. We she returned she asked if we would like an appetizer and we decided to try their loaded cheese fries. They were delicious. She made sure our drinks never went empty as well. We decided to order dinner while we enjoyed our appetizer. Our daughter got their mac and cheese with pulled pork. MY husband got their pick 3 meats: Pulled pork, sausage and brisket with mashed potatoes and baked beans. I got their Pulled pork plate with corn and their homemade BBQ chips. We also tried all their BBQ sauces but our favorite wS their mustard based one. Everything we ordered was fast and delicious. We will be back. I placed an online order for delivery through the Smokey Bones website. When we received the order, we were missing an item. I called and was told by the gal that answered the phone that they had the item right there, but nobody knew what order to put it with, and that basically they were not going to do anything about it, so I asked for the Manager. Austin the Manager got on the phone and told me that I could call the delivery service "WHO SMOKEY BONES CONTRACTS THROUGH" and ask them to come back and pick it up and bring it to us. I said I am not doing that; it was your mistake you should contact them and ask them. I was very disappointed on how they handled it or in this case didnt handle it. They did refund me for my item we did not receive, however the person that was supposed to get it, did not get to eat. I will NOT be returning to Smokey Bones. There are way more establishments in Lansing that will get our business when we are in town visiting family. read more

Great place to grab a quick dinner. Very friendly staff that provide a speedy, but efficient service. I usually split a combo meat dinner with someone because you can't go wrong with any of the meats! My favorite is the pulled pork and smoked turkey. They have four different bbq sauces, but the green bottle is my favorite. The mac and cheese and sweet potato are the best side options. Their drinks are delicious, especially the strawberry sangria! I definitely think it's worth it to sign up for the emailing list because they frequently send coupons. read more

I will admit, I've never really explored the food scene in the Lansing area too much. Honestly, I just started looking into it seriously this year. But I do like BBQ and I do like pork. This place has it. They also make decent cole slaw and I like coming here to watch sports rather than the Buffalo Wild Wings in East Lansing. There's not too much to say about this place though, I mean, it's just a run-of-the-mill, chain BBQ place that happens to have some great cocktails AND mocktails. They have Bubbleade now that comes with your choice of popping boba! It was really strange to see that on the menu, but I got it and it was pretty good. Again, this isn't INCREDIBLE OMG SO GOOD BBQ, but it's decent. Also, the servers are nice! There has never been a time I've come in here and gotten poor service. read more

Okay so this restaurant is pretty cool. The staff is super nice. The atmosphere is up beat and sporty. The music was a little load but it is in a collage town. We were seated right away. There was a television in everyone view at our table. The waitstaff explained the new table that was sitting on our table. You can order food, drinks and play games on it. The food did take a little longer then expected but it gave our group time to reminisce about our day. When the food arrived it was a surprise to see how huge the burgers were. Terrible customer service! Ordered delivery via third party. Third party left 2/3rds of order. Not knowing who was at fault, I called Smokey Bones to remake whole order. I was put on with the Kitchen Manager, who didn't even bother to give any salutation or ask my name, but instead launched right in to what they would (or rather would not do) and was told by the kitchen manager that they would put order in warmer, not remake the other items, nor would they deliver it to us (I didn't even know they had their own delivery). Kitchen manager also found a way to let me know that my $90 order wasn't that much when I stated to her that I wasn't spending $90 on cold food. Could have all been made right by simply saying, "we would be happy to remake the two entrees you received and deliver them to you with the rest of your order". Guess I'm done with Smokey Bones...going to give Saddleback BBQ a try (I like spending money with local business more anyway)...good to know Smokey Bones has so much money that they can afford to lose customers. read more

I've been to this place many times before; it hasn't really let down not one time. I like the variety of food choices they have; like build your own burger, sandwiches, steak, fish, & best of all the barbecue. The barbecue is good & they have all the meat there is; brisket, chicken, ribs, pulled pork, etc. They have their own signature regional BBQ sauces to put on your meat. This visit I got BBQ tacos with pulled pork that taste really really good, & I got a platter plate with chicken fingers & 1/3 of the baby back ribs. Service is hit and miss here, mostly good. They do not have brisket until 4 pm and are typically out of it by 6:00.... I usually get the pulled pork and it's pretty good. They have four sauces (sweet, vinegar, mustard, and spicy) which all have good flavor, my favorite is the sweet one. They also have pretty good mac and cheese, I would recommend getting the Southwest Mac and Cheese (it has chicken in it). Stopped in last Saturday night after the MSU vs. Maryland football game and the place was packed. This was our first time here and our party of 6 had to wait about 30-40 minutes for a table, not bad concidering how busy they were Once we were seating the waitress was at the table within a minute or two to take our drink and app order. She came back without our drinks to take our entree order. The bar was pretty slow, however as we were in no hurry, it wasn't a problem. All in all it took about 15 minute for our drinks to appear, but it was the bartenders being swamped as they were moving as quick as they could. The food came out together, accurate and cooked as asked for. I had a smoked prime rib that was as tender as any I've had in,a long time, and everyone else loved their choices. Everything was delicious and our waitress was excellent. This is one of the better chain restaurants I've been to, and woukd recommend it to anyone thinking about trying it out read more

Wings were dry, tough, and had a fridge taste. Like they were cooked days earlier and heated up. Ordered half with BBQ sauce, and there was almost no sauce on them, like maybe 20 percent of the sauce you would expect. Onion rings were generic tasteless crap. Absolutely complete and utter trash. Both bathrooms were filthy. Our waiter was very unprofessional. They serve brisket at 4:00pm, and by the time we got there to order brisket at 7:00pm they were out of brisket. I ordered a Coke and got a cherry coke. I went with a group of coworkers during our lunch break and I can say - please be sure you have an unlimited lunch. We were not expecting lunch to take so long and had to come back to work late. Comedy of errors. Mediocre food. My first and last time there. OK... heres the deal.... From the moment I came in the door to the time I left it was a bad joke and a good example of what really poor training gets you. Oh that's right there's a labor shortage going on. I digress. I arrive at the hostess stand tonight asking to be seated. The young lady shows me to the main dining area and leads me to a table. I ask her if I could sit at one of the 4 empty booths "over there" and she refused to let me. Why? Because "they weren't sitting people in them booths". So I reluctantly agree to sit at a table that was clearly more efficient for the waiter in terms of turning tables than providing customer satisfaction. Whatever. Not that big of a deal but it did foreshadow the rest of my experience. Literally 5 minutes later she proceeds to seat new customers at 3 of the 4 empty booths. One of them was a party of 1 guy like me, also by himself. As she walked by my table I asked her ... Why didn't you let me have one of those booths? "Because we couldn't seat people there at that time" she tells me... I said it was only 5 minutes ago. She replied ... I can't do anything about it now. Winning. 10 minutes goes by. My waiter finally arrives at my table to take my order. I ordered prime rib because there was a special prime rib menu that the hostess gave me that accompanied the regular menu. The waiter tells me... "Oh, we don't have no prime rib anymore". (what's up with the poor grammar?) He's clearly in a hurry and kept looking over at the rest of his section. He asks me if I want to order anything else. So I quickly order some tacos because he's clearly feeling the weight of being understaffed. He writes it down and leaves. As he's leaving I ask him if he could bring me a glass of water. He hadn't thought to do that on his own. Apparently that detail is not part of the corporate waiter training at Smokey Bones. Another 10 minutes goes by. The water arrives. 10 minutes after that my tacos arrive. Cold. Awesome. I notice one of the booths that I wasn't allowed to sit at was served prime rib. More awesomeness. Being a sucker for food photography I ordered the chocolate cake for desert. After 10 minutes I see the waiter flirting with one of the other staff which means he clearly wasn't concerned with me the customer. He then arrives at my table with my chocolate cake. At the same time he forgets that he has a container of ranch dressing in his other hand, presumably for a different table, and spills it all over my table. Double Awesome. I finish my super dry cake and I'm now ready to cash out. Never got that second glass of water either. Because who needs water with cake? My waiter is no where to be found. In the event he is watching his section, I stand by my table to signal him that I'm ready for my check. I continue to stand there. He finally shows up and I gave him my credit card. He brought it back shortly thereafter. That part went the smoothest. My advice to management? Clean house. Rehire your staff and institute a training program for customer service and food preparation. When you do that put a banner on the outside of your building letting the public know you've made changes. When I see that, I might consider coming by again. But I probably won't anymore than I will let anyone I know what my experience was like tonight. read more
