The service was better than any other establishment in recent memory, possibly ever in my life. Lily was our server and was amazing. Drinks, appetizers, entrees and desert quality was so far above expectation (i mean, this is lansing after all, not New York or Chicago) that my wife and i were extremely impressed. As a Retired Navy veteran ive been all over the world, 37 countries actually, and Capital Prime is easily top 10 meals ever, possibly top 5. What wonderful decor, ambiance, attitudes, service, quality. Cant say enough about how much we enjoyed our anniversary dinner last night. A side note about some other reviews: Wow, reading some of these less-than-stellar reviews made me laugh a little. One was a disheveled un showered couple with a dog, feeling discriminated against because of her disability, had to include they are both MDs like that makes them better and thus entitled to be dirty and smelly with a filthy animal around a fine dining atmosphere. 1-star rating because these disgusting people expect the world to bow to their disabled war veteran doctor ass thinks common decency doesn't apply to them. I can hear her now, karen ass war vet yelling about how its illegal to refuse a service dog entry, on a packed night, people trying to enjoy their meal with dirty vagabonds and their stench. Disgusting. Another reviewer gave three stars after being seated in a room with his group that is reserved for parties, not as elegantly dressed as other areas of the restaurant. The service provided at Capital Prime makes the evening and experience worth it! The restaurant is intimate and nicely decorated. There is plenty of parking as it is located in a large plaza surrounded by shopping and hotels. The food was beautifully plated and the scallops Rockefeller were the best items of the night! We literally could have made an evening of the scallops, the bread, and the amazing martinis! The sea bass and morels do deserve an honorable mention as they were extremely tasty and well prepared. The rest of our food was ok and overrated, thereby overpriced. The service would bring us back but at the prices perhaps we will stick to cocktails and appetizers. read more

Appetizer: Lobster Arancini Balls 3.8/5 - These were served with an aoli on the bottom which went well with the crispy arancini. There was one small piece of lobster in this bite, so not the most generous portion for the price. Main: 6 Oz Filet Mignon 3/5 - The meat was cooked well (to medium rare) and had a great crust on the exterior. This carried the dish (as it should). The accompanying sides, mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies, would be best left out. The broccolini and green beans were salty and overcooked, extremely soft and cooked well past it's ideal texture. The mashed potatoes were ok, but are just there as a filler. Side: Michigan Kale Salad 2/5 - The ingredient list sounded superb, but the execution was not there. The kale pieces were LARGE and were hard to eat in bites. It desperately needed another chop (or few) and a deep tissue massage. The salad was also HEAVY on the red onion - if that's your thing, then this is a great salad for you. The red onion was added with a heavy hand and needed to be soaked in water prior to serving to get rid of the pungent bite. Pass. The free bread rolls were ok as well, but I would rather have a Texas Road House roll. read more

Overall I had a good experience at this restaurant with my family. The staff was very attentive and understanding with any alterations to the meals or drinks. Me and my family came to celebrate my little sister's 21st birthday. We all ordered a variety of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. We went last night to celebrate our MSU grad. First let me say the waitstaff were terrific. The food was mostly a let down - we ordered the Australian wagyu - it was charred and overcooked: no warm pink center. You could only taste the char. The French onion soups were way too salty and lacked flavor. My one adult child ordered the lobster and said it was delicious. Desserts were fair. For the money, I would have expected much better food so sadly we will not be returning. read more

Hubby and I took a road trip on Valentine's Weekend to Lansing, MI. We researched for a really nice fine dining restaurant and came across this place which looked ideal so we decided to make dinner reservations way in advance here for Feb. 15th. On the day of our dinner, we were headed there in the midst of a terrible snowstorm - very low visibility. The restaurant was caring enough to call and check on us to make sure we were coming soon which we appreciated. We arrived and the staff was so welcoming. We were seated at a very nice booth area. Paul was our server and he was very friendly and informative about the menu with suggestions for us for our meal. The decor gets its own paragraph! It's SO beautiful in there. Dimly lit, wonderful ambiance and the light fixtures are unique and eye catching along with being beautiful. Great place for a date night as there were many couples there that night. They had the restaurant decorated for Valentine's Day and it was so freakin' pretty in there. They also had a red & pink balloon display (see picture) to take pictures by so we certainly took advantage of that! I'm a foodie and can be picky because I really love good food. Each and everything we had there was delicious and perfect temperature. They brought warm rolls with butter. I had the Lavender Love Garden (Bombay Sapphire, St. Germain, lavender syrup, lemon juice which was yummy. Hubby had the Cotton Candy Rum Punch which was a very nice presentation (see video). We chose the Capital Shrimp for an appetizer which was really good. For my meal, I had the King Crab Legs that were big! Sliced in half so all you have to do is pick the delicious meat from the shell, dip in warm drawn butter and enjoy. I had the red potatoes and brussel sprouts to accompany them and they were both scrumptious! Well seasoned and nice sized portions. Hubby selected the lobster tail and asked for 2 of them. They were huge!! And delicious as he shared one with me. Even the wet towelettes that we were given were hot and were beautifully decorated on a small square dish to clean our hands. Nice touch! We were stuffed so we took a slice of the key lime cheesecake to go. It was delicious as well. They put two mini live purple flowers on top of it which made it pretty. Capital Prime, you made our Valentine's dinner really special. Thank you for a wonderful evening. Highly recommend this steakhouse. Service was excellent server did not use book when taking our order but everything was correct and in a timely manner. we had ordered the king crab with veggies and mashed potato's and the 8 ounce filet. the crab was a little dry and hard to get out but it's by far my favorite food and was still very good. filet was inhaled by my bf he is a very picky eater and nothing can touch eachother and they were very accommodating. the place is very big with different sections and was pretty pretty empty when we went on a thursday but everything is clean and taken care of no patches on leather seats. the reason i didn't provide 5 stars was just because i like a place that's popular and i was pretty let down in the moment about the crab as there was also no butter to dip it in only an aioli looking sauce - which was still very good read more

I must admit I had heard many times about this restaurant and wanted to try it, as we normally dine at the excellent Bowdies Chophouse. It was Thursday evening , just days before the MSU graduations so I expected it to be busy, but I was initially disappointed as the 6 of us (celebrating my daughter's upcoming graduation the next day) were led through the bustling restaurant to a back room with no ambiance at all. Our server was great and was very attentive (probably the only positive experience I will report in this review). All 6 of us ordered various steaks, but the 3 of us who ordered medium-rare prime steaks (all different: one porterhouse; one bone-in prime rib; and one bone-in ribeye), ended up being served steaks which were much much closer to medium than medium rare. Also, the 2 of us who ordered baked potatoes, were both served fairly hard undercooked potatoes. I guess my main point is that although the restaurant was busy, I expected a much better experience when eating $80 prime steaks at a high end steakhouse. read more

Capital Prime is one of our favorite date night spots! We love the romantic feel in the booths by the bar area. The service is always tier one and the food comes out perfectly done. Our favorite appetizers are oysters on the half shell and the capital shrimp..AMAZING! We always get the ribeye or filet with blue cheese crumble as main course and the flavor is to die for. It's currently 7:39pm on Friday February 14. We had a reservation for 6pm. We got our salad at 7pm. I asked for another drink with my meal, the steak was good- it's gone. The crab cake was burned outside and uncooked inside. The fries were limp and cold and the blue cheese was adhered to the steak when we got it, proving it sat in the window for a while- a shame for $50 steak. Our sever, Mark, for the most part, hid away, not stopping by to ask or inquire much. This is especially sad because the last time we visited prime I got terrible food poisoning from a whitefish dish and had a free meal waiting at the front desk. We have been traveling across country and happened to stay near this restaurant. I am an MD and my husband has a PhD and is a DNP. I admit we looked a little rough when we entered plus we had my service dog and my training service dog. The staff member at the front said reservations were necessary. My husband asked if we could go to the bar and the staff person walked us to the bar that had 5 to 7 empty seats. My husband and I started to sit at the bar when the staff member said he could not allow us to actually sit at the bar but we could "see" it. I pointed out the several empty seats at the bar and thought we could sit down. The front staff person became agitated and said he could not seat us at the bar at 7:30 (March 11,2025) at night.... on a Tuesday night!! Here I am a disabled vet asking to sit at a half full bar and have a drink and we were refused service. We talked to a "manager" Heidi/Heather ( my husband doesn't remember her name). She supported her staff member and said they had some large groups coming in and wanted everyone's experience to be good. First a large group could not have been at the bar. Secondly if you can't support people sitting at the bar with several empty seats....not even two deep you have some service issues. This felt like discrimination - maybe because I am a disabled female USAF (trauma surgeon) veteran with my service dog? IDK it still made me feel embarrassed and ashamed to be escorted out. If you are a disabled veteran, a family member of a disabled veteran, friends with a veteran or simply appreciate what veterans have sacrificed for this country I would recommend any other restaurant in the area. read more

I'm going to have to name this the best steak restaurant in Lansing. Not a 5 star, as I've had much better. But definitely gets 4 stars. The service is always top notch and attentive. We have been here a few times and love the ambience which is a dimly lit restaurant with oversized booths and some tables/chairs in the center area. We cozy up in a booth and have enjoyed steaks and the tomahawk. Their sides or alright. They have a nice selection of wines which we always get to go with our steaks. We had a vanilla bean coffee with espresso which was amazing. If you want good steak in this town, Capital Prime will make sure you get it. Enjoy! read more

For a steak house it's good but nothing great. I've been here three times. I've gotten the prime ribeye twice and the waygu the last time. I wasn't too impressed by any of the meat. The lobster was good and the presentation is so cute. The Mac n cheese was great. The sides and desserts were good but nothing that I ordered gave me the omg I have to finish this all it's so amazing vibe... they do get the temperature on the cook right. The food does take a bit to come out. All in all I would eat here again but it wouldn't be my top choice for steak. read more

If you want good service and good drinks go to Bowdie's. Made a reservation a few weeks prior because coming to town from California to visit our son. Went to Capital Prime because my son who lives in a dorm at Michigan State wanted a "real meal". It was a Thursday night and it was 3/4 empty. However, for some reason, they sat us in a booth in the bar. The booth was less comfortable than the Delta Airlines seats we sat in for 5 hours on our flight that afternoon from Los Angeles. Even though there was only 1 person sitting at the bar and 1 other booth with people in it, we had to wait at least 20 minutes before anyone came by the booth to take drink orders. I ordered a Negroni. 10 minutes after ordering my drink I still didn't have it in my hand. A server came by and I asked about the status of my drink and was told that the bartender "was working on the espresso machine" so the drink wasn't made yet. 5 minutes later a third person brought the drink and it was in a glass that was perhaps 3 times the size of a thimble. Notwithstanding the terrible service, we ordered a charcuterie board for 4, some dinner rolls, 2 ribeyes and a filet. The food was good although the meat was over seasoned. Unfortunately, the food could not overcome the poor service hence the 1 star review. Had gotten reservations to Capitol Prime for Thanksgiving brunch. The restaurant had the following: choice of salads,turkey,pork loin, glazed chicken.The sides included mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts/bacon, honey glazed carrots, green bean salad and a dessert(s) tray. Service was great, attentive, pretty spot on,got our drinks within minutes of sitting down. Prime has a really nice atmosphere for dining, nice tables and chairs, linen napkins.The rooms are large and open, some what quiet,lot of large glass windows with view/shades. They also have some smaller rooms for private dining. We really enjoyed our visit and look forward to another visit soon. read more

Held a private event here. Everything was spot on, the food was solid, and the waiter and waitresses knew how to serve the room while a business discussion occurred. Unfortunately, normally it's a 50% hit rate in other high end establishments. No I don't want you to interrupt the discussion to list the specials, or tell us about what you recommend, and don't even send a clumsy oaf who can not read the room when it comes time to remove plates for the next course. After several disappointing dinners over the last few months, I decided to finally write a review. This used to be a very nice restaurant with decent food. The ambiance is upscale and fine dining, and we don't have much of that around here, so I want to support this place. However, the food has been going downhill while the prices continue to rise. Tonight, I ordered the lobster roll salad to take home. The lettuce was brown all over the edges. There was 1 tablespoon of lobster roll bits which was 1/2 mango bits and 1/2 tiny shreds of lobster knuckle/legs, plus one hard boiled egg and 1/2 avocado. All of that for $32. I threw out most of the lettuce and picked at the other items, but this is the last time I go there and have a disappointing meal. I didn't think to take a picture. read more

Our server, Kyle, was very attentive to our group of twelve, as well as knowledgeable of foods they were able to accommodate gluten free and dairy free. There were several apps for the table, plates of Capitol Shrimp that was a big hit but I could not sample, as well as the bruschetta. I did enjoy the shrimp cocktail, nothing fancy, just delicious shrimp. For dinner, my filet came out perfectly medium, as requested, along with a side of balsamic asparagus and roasted red skinned potatoes. All. So. Good. Like, plate-lickingly delicious! And yes, I think I just made up that phrase. The atmosphere was upscale, and while we were at a long table in the middle of the area, we were able to talk amongst each other without bothering the tables along the wall around us. Don't let the 5 star taste bud missing reviews fool you. We went here for my grandmas birthday and wow. Blown away at how poor the quality of meat was. We ordered the Seabass (extremely fishy smell- and I love fish but this was fishhhh-y), steaks (Ribeye) and apps. If I had only eaten the crab cake I would have thought this place was ok. Just visited again after my first review 8 years ago. I gave it a 2 star rating then and upgrading to 3 stars this time. The appetizers (shrimp, scallops, and mushrooms/steak) were okay. The service was okay. The place was clean. The steaks just miss the mark. I had the ribeye. It was slightly better than before, but not a $48 Ribeye. The grill marks are barely there. The seasoning was slightly better, but just average. The steak had lots of grizzle (and I eat ribeye fat) and pretty chewy for the price. It's just not that good. read more

Capital prime is probably the best steakhouse in the Lansing area. The quality of the steaks is very good and their side dishes are very good. The atmosphere is very upscale and in all of my visits the service has been wonderful. You Need to keep your expectations in check a little bit however because it's not quite in the same league with some of the other finer steakhouses like Ruth's Chris or Morton's, although it's priced as if it is. Dinner for two is going to such a back about $150-$200 if you have drinks and it's just not quite worth it. But it is a really good choice for the Lansing area and you won't be upset with the experience read more

Walking in the restaurant the intial impression was good as the lighting/landscapeing and facade were all screaming "fancy". Entering and approaching host stand was same until hostess looked at me expectingly with no greeting. I gave name for reservation and after a lengthy discussion with perhaps another host we were seated wordlessly with menus. We ordered drinks, her a Mocktail and me a mixed bourbon drink. We agreed both were good. Next up a tenderloin and portobello appetizer. We both agreed was good. Next up mains were a cauliflower "steak" for me and her a New York Strip. Mine was extraordinarily overpriced and incorrectly labeled. A cauliflower "steak" is flat. It is laying on a flat side on the plate and upper side is flat, like a "steak". They gave me two florets with one burnt beyond being edible. The pistachio sauce was cold. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. My wife said the steak was "ok" but way to much fat for a New York Strip. We cook often and dine out often, we know our food. This restaurant may fool some folks but this is not high end by any stretch. We went on a Monday Night for a 600 reservation and sever was "Eddie", he was clear and concise however he saw the cauliflower coming to table and when I was done the pile of burnt food I didn't eat.
