Starting off with the famous corn bread , we were sad that it wasn't in the skillet like it always has but it was still so good with their pecan butter ! We ordered a half rack of the traditional ribs and a full rack of the imported ribs ( smaller ribs) with baked beans, cole slaw , pulled pork and garlic toast. A lot of great memories at this Smokey Bones location. Nostalgia wins. Started with the Corn Bread. It isn't in a big skillet anymore. Instead it is 4 smaller pieces. I've been coming to this location for about 10 years and have loved it ever since! The waitress we had was very kind and has taken care of us for years in the past . I always loved the modern yet cozy feel of a Smokey bones. When we were here, we watched some of the Olympics while we got our chicken wings and nachos. I came here for lunch with my guest this time and we both got an order of chicken wings smoked, I got the mini nachos and she got a salad . The smoked chicken wings with garlic Parm sauce are really good ! Smoked is the only way you should go with the wings here!! Although the nachos are mini, they were perfect portion size and perfect for lunch! Smokey Bones has some enticing daily specials. Wednesdays are BOGO dinner pulled pork platters which makes them about the price of a fast food meal. I used to go all the time but there is not one located near to me so after an AM doctor appointment, I realized the Colonial location was just down the street. I arrived just after they opened and there were a few occupied tables. WOW! I got outstanding service and my server made suggestions on sides, was attentive and I can't say enough about her initiative. Of course I got the pulled pork platters. The dinner platter comes with two sides and like many restaurants they have premium sides for an up charge. Pro tip: get the cornbread with pecan butter upgrade for 99 cents I ordered two pork platters , one to eat there and one to go. My sides were baked potato, broccoli, green beans and corn bread. I like that they have sides beyond your usual smokehouse offerings: potatoes au gratin, fire roasted corn and garlic mashed potatoes. The sauce selection at Smokey bones is interesting in that they have chipotle and vinegar based options all the time. My favorite is the original and I was expecting to slather it on some just cooked pulled pork. Well I am not sure what was up in the kitchen. I was not enjoying the dry pile of meat and I asked for a to go box. Then I realized I did not even want to take it home, so I told my server that the pork was really not up to my expectations. She whisked away my plate and the to go order and came back in mere minutes with both platters of fresh pulled pork packed to go. What they are known for is the hot bag of donuts which is a classic and you can also earn by filling out a survey from your receipt. They have a newer dessert I want to try which is roasted banana pudding: vanilla pudding topped with roasted bananas and cookie wafers, topped with whipped cream and more cookies. The decor is similar to a lodge with neon accents and they have a rectangular bar with many TVs. It is a large restaurant that can accommodate bigger parties and they have many booths and tables. We had a party at three. Toni was our server. I left my prescription eyeglasses on the table. She did even turn them in. She took our drinks away from us and never returned with them. We finally were able to flag her down after several attempts we asked her for our drink so all she could say is "for sure." Two of us ordered ribs one ordered a half rack which was edible. The full rack was not edible at all. They did not charge us for the full rack, but not even one person came over to apologize about it. Server had zero empathy Manager didn't come to the table. I would rate this place zero stars if I could definitely not a Darden restaurant anymore. My hamburger had so much grease at the bottom. There were so many great local spots in the area that we never thought to venture away. We ended up loving their fall off the bone delicious ribs and perfectly cooked street corn! It was two hours prior to close and unfortunately those fall off the bone ribs were chew off the bone ribs :(.......... And we bought two full racks. Although the food tasted amazing I found the prices far to high for what we received. To start the chips and queso had a nice taste there was barely enough for 8 chips not to mention they were out of the chorizo that was supposed to be in it. It wasn't packed, but they definitely could've given our waiter, Khristopher, more help. After waiting 20 mins after finishing our meals, our waiter came back and apologized and asked if we needed anything else. I asked for a Togo box, my date asked for a refill. He came back 10 mins later with the box, but no drink. We waited 10 more mins for the check and left immediately. The food was okay. I ordered the loaded baked potato with a Caesar salad. I had brisket on my potato, but it wasn't sliced/shredded, so it kinda made it difficult to eat. My date had a brisket grilled cheese, that had barely any meat, with tomato soup. He enjoyed his meal. We came for a late dinner and were seated right away and our server was very nice. They were a bit understaffed and the food was fairly mediocre. The boneless wings were too breaded and the taki corn was nothing special. The best parts were the pulled pork, cheddar jalapeno sausage, and banana pudding. We had to wait a long time for our check and we were splitting it. After some time the server came back and said they were only able to run one of the cards and lost power before he could run the other card. He kept the other card and said they were waiting for the power to come back on. The drink we ordered was the Smooth Bourbon Blackberry Lemonade which was definitely strong and had lots of bourbon in it. We did not get as much of the blueberry or lemonade flavors, and it was disappointing that the drink didn't come with the blackberry and lemon garnish that they showed on the menu in a photo. For food, we tried the ribs and the brisket with a side of coleslaw and fries. Everything was delicious, but the brisket did have a huge chunk of fat that we had to eat around. Something like a three or four. I'm fairly sure I've written a review for this Smokey Bones before. I'm feeling I may have submitted one twice before. In fact, I think they're even one of the first places I may have reviewed so many years ago. Whatever the case, I've been to this Smokey Bones dozens and dozens of times over the last many years. And even in those years during and after the bubble when they had that $20 for $10 coupon I was hooked into a regular. I find them to be very passable casual dining with good cocktails and some pretty good specials. They do a good job of keeping it fresh and shaking up the menu. That Brunswick stew's a favorite. And I particularly like their coleslaw. Not too many places do smoked wings and theirs are very good without the drizzle. Some of the sauces are really nice too, like the garlic mayo. Love that on fries. I like that they're never very busy which probably isn't a sustainable thing but it's nice to shop an uncrowded place. That's my vibe and why I probably frequent them more than I should. This last time in, went in on that ridiculous $39 2 lb rib thing and it was okay, alright. I always end up wanting to like this place more than I actually end up liking it. They have a good location that has plenty of parking and it's easy to get in and out of. The front desk is always an issue and you normally have to wait several minutes before anyone even shows up at the podium. Then it always seems like they're not sure where to put you, and it takes time to get seated. Even though most of the restaurant is usually pretty empty. Not sure if it's a server placement issue or what? Once you're seated it does take a little while for service as it always seems like it's going a little bit slow. However, they do have a lot of good food options and I usually find something that I want. The price point always seems a little bit high for what they have to offer. But, it's pretty common for restaurants to have this kind of price point in the Orlando area. The food always looks good in the pictures, however, when you get it to your table it's never quite the same as what you thought it would be. It's usually just okay. The atmosphere is very sports bar like. Even though they do have a seating area that's completely separate from the television and bar area, it still gets pretty loud. It can be difficult to hear your conversation over the yelling sometimes. My food recommendation here is the smoked wings. They're usually pretty good, however, you'll probably want to side to go with it as it may not be completely filling for a meal.
