Came here with two friends on a Saturday around 11.45 AM. If you don't know the strip-center location, there is never a parking issue. The restaurant was empty. It is not much to look at - long benches so you canot get a personal table. The two-attending staff answered a few questions and we decided on BBQ brisket sandwiches. Got the cole slaw as our side - interesting that all 3 of us wanted the same lunch. (One of the staff mentioned that the turkey is outstanding, so we will need to try that next time.) After ordering, they immediately made our brisket sandwiches, and we sat at one of the tables. They have 4 types of barbeque sauce, and you can take a bottle or two to your table. The sandwiches had a healthy portion of meat and were very juicy with limited fat (it had been trimmed). It was excellent - we tried two of the BBQ sauces, both were also excellent and I liked the spicy (and thicker) sauce the best - it was not too spicy. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the brisket was! Also the pickles are homemade - try them with your food! The pickles are so good that we bought a side order to take home. To sum it up, while the aesthetics of the place are nothing special, the BBQ and the service was excellent! One can order meat by the half pound, and I will do a to-go order and give that turkey a try. May 24 Update I was in the area and bought a pound each of turkey and brisket to go. Both are wonderful - they need to get containers to take out some BBQ sauce with orders - all they have are 1 ounce plastic containers that you fill yourself - it can be messy filling them up. We brought home a pound of chopped brisket to make our own sandwiches on whole wheat bread since we don't eat white bread. The brisket was very good; the sauce was disappointing. We always have a bottle of Stubb's Original on hand so this wasn't a problem. The second time around was a shocker. The brisket was mostly burnt ends and way overcooked meat chunks. I tried two bites and gave up. I couldn't chew it. We also bought a pint of beans and a pint of coleslaw. I opened the beans and the cumin smell hit me. I just put the top back on the container. I'm not fond of cumin in beans even though I use it properly in many of my dishes. The coleslaw was dry and tasteless. I spent $55 and had nothing edible to show for it. I contacted Legacy BBQ via email and never received a response. Add this restaurant to the growing list of Lago Vista dining disappointments. read more

Pretty solid BBQ in Lago Vista! Got to meet the owner and he was very nice, gave a very warm, homey feel. My favorite was the turkey, very tender and flavorful. Goes well with all the sides, stand out side was the elote. read more

After the popular BBQ food truck owner passed away this year and the business closed down, Lago Vista was missing a pure Texas BBQ experience till now. Legacy BBQ is next up to fill those large boots. The former food truck pit master is over at Legacy giving it a try. I believe the mural on the wall pays tribute to the relationship, thus the name Legacy. My understanding is the same ownership group of a few other restaurants on this same shopping strip are also involved in opening this place. Me and the wifey ordered a variety of meats including the brisket, jalapeño sausage, ribs and smoked wings along with the potato salad and beans for sides. The meats did not overly impress. I think some more work needs to be done on increasing the flavor as us Texans are quite particular in what we like. Get some spice into those wings because the chicken itself looks impressive just needs a slight boost. Find a better combination of rub for the ribs and brisket. It's close but not quite there yet. If I realized anything about the other owners restaurants, I believe they can tweak it enough to push it over to the Wow side. It seems to me that most iconic Texas BBQ restaurants have a pit at the same location as the restaurant. The smoke aroma will bring in people like a rancher call to his cattle. Since this is a brick and mortar store, it has some limitations from that prospective. Although the inside picnic tables are the most impressive I've ever seen, it crowds the inside too much, thus losing the inside dining appeal. These are merely my observations, and since it has only been open for a few weeks, I have hopes that enough changes can be made to be the Legacy it set out to be. Found this place by googling "best bbq in Lago Vista". First off, the chicken is hands down the TRUTH. The pork ribs tender, if you lack your front teeth it's okay they easily fall off the bone. Of course the brisket is good, but I'm telling you that chicken did something magical to my soul. And the price for what I paid, you can't BEAT IT. I stopped by Legacy BBQ in Lago Vista and honestly I don't get the hype. When you walk in, there are a couple of big tables and that's about it. The walls are painted with some kind of mural or something, I'm not really sure what it is, but it doesn't add much. There's no music, no TVs, no atmosphere at all. Nothing about the place makes you want to stay or come back. The prices are crazy. They charged me $18.99 for half a pound of brisket, so basically $40 a pound. I added a small potato salad and a piece of cornbread and my total was $50. Then they spin the little screen around and ask if you want to leave a tip. For what exactly? I asked for BBQ sauce and they gave me two of the tiniest cups you could imagine. Same thing when I asked for pickles and onions. Maybe five pickle chips and a small scoop of onions. And they didn't even taste good! I don't know how a BBQ spot messes up pickles and onions but somehow they did. The brisket wasn't terrible but it wasn't worth what they're charging. I've even had people tell me it tastes like chemicals. I didn't get that personally but if that kind of thing starts going around it's not going to help them. There's no service really. You walk up to the counter, place your order, and that's it. No vibe, no energy, nothing to make you want to hang out. The place is clean and looks new, I'll give them that, but that's about the only positive. They need to lower the prices, fix the portions, and create a better experience overall. The prices are too high but at least there was very quick service. The prices make you think that this bbq will be epic but it's just average run of the mill stuff. The Mac and cheese was a mess. I will say that there was plenty of parking and space in the restaurant so it didn't feel crowded or anything but I won't be going back. read more

The creamed corn is delicious. The beans are good. The brisket is dry, tough and tasteless. The service is very friendly. The ambiance is okay. I don't prefer the communal seating. Some really strange folks come in. Doesn't compare to Salt Lick. There are very few restaurants in Lago Vista. Not sure how long this one will last. Most have a short life. The Mexican food truck is the best. Sonic is good for burgers. The Burger is Bar is a dismal black tunnel with a big variety of okay burgers. J&J is J&J. Not great. Not terrible. Bella Vista has good bread. The sandwich shop is sterile and not memorable. I mostly go to Cedar Park when I want to eat out. read more
