I had the best pesto tomato soup EVERRRR here!!! It was a special today, but if it was a regular menu item I'd make the drive to Marion just for the soup!! The ambience is pretty dive bar-ish and a little dark indoors, but the servers are friendly and our food came quickly. We had an early dinner at Crabby Abby's today. It is a bar atmosphere with tables on the opposite side of the room plus outdoor seating on the wide sidewalk out front. This would be an excellent place to take your pup. They are very pup friendly. We ordered from the daily special selection. My husband had the steak. I had the sesame salmon. Both came with soup or salad. I had the seafood chowder, an excellent choice. My husband had the salad, which was very generous. My husband said the steak was the best he had in a long time. My salmon was served on a bed of fried rice with a tangy sesame sauce. The salmon was flaky and cooked perfectly. Brandon, our server was cheerful and very attentive. Being a tourist today, I asked him a lot of questions. He was very knowledgeable about the area. He is a true asset to Marion. When trying to decide what to eat after work we landed on crabby Abby's as (in my opinion) they have the best French onion soup I've ever had. Well, today was no different. Brandon was one of the most kindhearted people I've met, funny and absolutely charismatic. If you go on a day when the chicken Marsala is on the specials it is a MUST TRY!! Nice bar type restaurant with friendly staff. We were super hungry when we arrived so I ordered wings as an appetizer. We waited a long time, I even asked about them as I made it clear to the waitress that I wanted them to come before meal. Well wings came with meal. Waitress took them back as we didn't want them with meal. Shrimp tacos were delicious but I had to pay for the side of onion rings. You would think for $15 you'd get a side. The onion rings were not hot when they were served so I asked for hot ones. They brought me back a hot side of onion rings and they were delicious. Key lime pie was good but for $8.50 for one slice? Drove through downtown Marion on my way back from hiking tonight (Sunday night) and found this gem of a restaurant! I sat outside on their patio and had wonderful service! I asked about local favorites on the menu and the Oyster Poe Boy was recommended. She mentioned they may almost be out of oysters and recommended a combo of oysters and shrimp. We had a great dinner at Crabby Abby's last Thursday. We made reservations after talking to the hostess, and was greeted at the door as soon as we walked in. The specials are usually listed on the wall which we immediately learned about from our waitress. My wife ordered the Broiled scallops and shrimp over linguine in a cream wine sauce ($29), and I ordered a perfectly cooked Ribeye (36) with grilled asparagus. To top off the evening we had a slice of the freshly made Key lime pie, which wasn't tart enough for us but was definitely an excellent example of Florida's favorite pie here in Marion, NC. We are in town just for the night and while we were recommended to try a different location, this menu (go to their website), seemed more what we were looking for. In the heart of Marion off of Main Street, this place is a gem. The staff welcomes you as if you are one of the regulars (we got to watch them greet a regular customer and there was no difference). We had Casey as our server and Kelly made special appearances at our table. Both of them were quite lovely and provided additional recommendations and local facts. Their Yelp doesn't have many pictures, their food is worth the visit. As a native Marylander I get extremely skeptical when a restaurant this far from the coast places "Maryland Crab Cakes" on their menu. I tried them and they were perfectly moist, not much filler, and were a wonderful substitute to the ones I find back home. Try this place and tell them Dawn & Paris sent you. Superb crab cakes and my husband and I could've eaten a gallon of the crab spinach dip appetizer! My husbands steak was cooked to perfection and he's rather picky about his steaks. Yesterday I ordered a $20 plate of chilled shrimp and crab, and the crab tasted old and very fishy, to the point were it was inedible. I could not eat those and left them on the plate and informed the server that the crab was both smelling and tasting bad. The server 1) left the plate on my table and never inspected the crab and 2) dropped off the bill while telling me that the kitchen said it was thawed the day before and therefore could not be bad. As someone who has worked as a line cook for 10 years in a seafood restaurant, I know what bad crab smells like. The most offensive part of my experience was how no one even bothered to inspect or verify what I was saying, but instead left the plate on my table and dropped off the bill and told me I was wrong. How can that be done without even inspecting the food in question? This is inexcusable and unprofessional, and I left feeling absolutely defrauded. Wow, this place is a great little Main Street Restaurant. Camping in the area for the week and always like to try local places. Service was fantastic, a few solid beers on tap and the food was delicious. Not often that a place in the mountains has good seafood offerings but my wife loved the crab cakes and a family member had the Fried Fish and Shrimp. The Gouda Pimento Cheese dip and chips with Jalapeños and pickles was a great starter. I normally don't eat pickles, but these were house made and more like a vinegar cucumber and delicious. I had the Bistro Burger with Bacon, Grilled Onion and Garlic Sauce and it was nearly to big to finish. Britney was our server and did an awesome job taking care of our table. Like many places these days they were out of a few things because of supply issues, but they have enough on the menu to make up for it! I decided to try this place out after reviewing the menu and pics online. I came specifically for the shrimp and grits. Here's the run-down: I got a cucumber mint martini which was amazing! The house salad was fresh and delicious. However, the ranch dressing was disgusting so I opted for balsamic vinaigrette which was great. As soon as my entree came out, I was disappointed. It was swimming in a weird red grease. The grits were supposed to be cheesy and creamy. But they weren't. Not at all. They were lumpy and bland and swimming in grease. The sea scallops were very good, but the shrimp tasted freezer burned, old, and rubbery. I ate the seafood and left the rest of the mess in the bowl. The worst shrimp n grits I've ever tasted.
