Barb explains the menu and their customers favorites (including The Reuben and their homemade Pimento Cheese) a choice of 1 side from the daily specials and a complimentary brownie or cookie for dessert. They do not have a fryer so all menu items are prepared fresh. I had a Reuben Sandwich and pasta salad. (The sides are large!) We chose to split the Reuben since we have early dinner reservations and each got a side. Even at 1/2 the sandwich and side it was very filling. The sandwich was hot and delicious. The service was slow, we had difficulty getting water refills and other items we requested, and overall the level of attention did not justify a 22% gratuity. What made the situation worse was the response after concerns were raised. We were informed that the credit card had already been processed for the full amount and were told that we should find another restaurant in the future if we were unhappy with the policy. In addition, after another member of our party left a review, a response from management included insulting and unprofessional remarks about customers who questioned the gratuity. Rather than addressing customer concerns respectfully, the response appeared hostile and dismissive. I believe tipping should be voluntary and based on the quality of service received. Customers should be informed of automatic gratuity policies before ordering, and concerns should be handled professionally. Due to both the service and management's response, I would not return and cannot recommend this restaurant.
