Had a traditional two egg breakfast and everything was amazing ---eggs were cooked perfectly and so fluffy, the potatoes were killer ---little tiny Yukon potatoes that must have been double fried , and the bacon ----oh the bacon ---the real deal! I wasn't really a fan if this place. There's just a lot I think could be improved by management or owners to make the experience better. For one, it came off a bit cheap and lazy. You bus your own table which is fine if they don't ask for tip, but they do... and they had the bus tubs completely filled to brim and it was not busy. So there was no where to put the dishes. Also not one table was wiped down, so it's a bit awkward. They probably need to have another staff member to assist with this so that one person can remain behind counter. The staff is friendly but what did rub me the wrong way as well is it seems they are asked to skimp on the food at this restaurant. We ordered a side of toast and a side of bacon, both $5 each and they give you one slice of toast and one and a quarter piece of bacon broken into three quarter pieces.. just not worth it. Cornerstone kitchen has the best tasting bread in the region! I stopped by for lunch on a Sunday, and thoroughly enjoyed a croque madame outside at a dog-friendly picnic table. The creamy bechamel in the sandwich was divine, and the ham was very generously portioned. The smashed potatoes that accompanied it were also delicious. Expect SF prices and a bit of a wait. Came for late lunch. I ended up with chicken salad. Very good. There were some large cracks of pepper in the salad and quinoa much of a nutty surprise. Staff helpful though initially appears slightly indifferent to my. 2:15 arrival. Salad was about $22 out the door so not cheap. Super cute spot it actually connects into the coffee shop though you need to order coffee directly from next spot. Our $50 breakfast is stone cold and has to be reheated. They offered to remake it but have a large order it was going to take another half an hour. Not impressed. Gave no suggestions when I asked for good options and seemed like they were out of a lot of ingredients/options. We came to downtown Truckee to find a spot for a quick lunch and walked into Cornerstone Kitchen. Ordering was quick at the register up front and I got the Turkish Eggs and a cappuccino for a light lunch. Food came out quickly but I was a bit disappointed in the eggs. Turkish Eggs are meant to be saucy with soft boiled eggs served over savory, garlicky yogurt. The eggs I got were over medium next to a bit of greek yogurt, some olive oil and sunflower seeds. There really wasn't any flavor and the eggs were cooked too long to mix with the yogurt. We likely should have ordered something else - the breakfast sandwiches looked better. On a whim, my husband and I drove to Truckee for coffee one lazy Sunday. We came in a little later in the morning so after paying for parking and getting our coffee we decided we should just stay a little longer and have some brunch. We started walking lazily around down town while we sipped and chatted and just happened upon Cornerstone. After checking out the menu online we decided that this was exactly what we were looking for. We walked into the warm and cozy shop and were greeted by the friendly and professional employees. I ordered the Turkish Eggs. Creamy, buttery eggs over yoghurt with a fabulous focaccia bread was exactly what I needed on the chilly morning. My husband had the short rib hash and he loved it as well, praising the copious amounts of short rib with the crispy, yet soft potatoes. So glad we stumbled upon this tasty little shop! read more

So close to 5 stars! The food is actually wonderful IMHO. I haven't been in recently because funds are low BUT I've had a craving for their quinoa bowl for a week now! I should probably fulfill that soon! Their crispy potatoes are very tasty as is their chicken protein bowl. There are a few solid gluten free options and I greatly appreciate it! Each time I've been in I was able to order in a reasonable amount of time and usually would get my food within 15ish minutes. Not bad especially for downtown. The addition of outdoor seating has been nice especially during nice weather. However seating feels kinda cramped inside. The downsides are 1) it closes at 3 (man I'd love to see what they would do for dinner!) 2) despite changes to River Street, parking is still a challenge especially in winter. I'm not sure honestly what can be done but finding parking is one of the reasons I don't eat here more often. read more

If, on a 1-10 scale, I would give their bakery an 11... sadly, our breakfast at Kitchen was probably a 6. The breakfast sandwich on croissant was hard to eat. The homemade sausage was okay. The salmon on the hash was overly sweet. The potatoes were excellent. Neither of us would order our dishes again. We'd try something simpler. But we also left with a box of baked goods from next door. There are excellent breakfast options in Truckee. I hope Kitchen reconsiders its prep and aligns with something simpler, more savory, and easier to eat. read more

I really wanted to like this place. But everything from the food, service and ambiance was a miss. I ordered the French toast. The bread was DRY and stale. No flavor. Fresh berries on the entree was three slices of strawberries and sliced grapes? Small to say the least and was more of a garnish than topping. Husband ordered breakfast classics. Eggs over easy, toast, potatoes and sausage patty. The sausage was so hard and dry! Eggs and toast were nothing special. Highlight was their smashed potatoes and aioli. Service was MINIMAL. Order at the counter and wait about 20-30 mins for breakfast is just too long. Get your own waters, clear your own plates, coffee cups at their station were all dirty. Tables are not wiped down. Ambiance in cute by the train tracks. Offer indoor/outdoor seating. Indoor is tiny, maybe 5 tables and the outdoor space offers several more picnic benches and small tables. Communal tables outdoors. Unfortunately, we really did t enjoy our meals here and left unsatisfied and hungry. We won't be back and I would not recommend this place. read more

Stayed at an Airbnb a block away and decided to try this place out for breakfast on our way out. And gosh, we're so happy we did! The quality of our food was outstanding. Great flavors and freshness. Highly recommend the smashed breakfast potatoes and aioli sauce. The service was great and everyone we encountered was kind. It was too warm to sit outside for us so we opted for an inside table which included fresh flowers on it.
