Oh yeah it's real!!! Thank you thank you thank you Zenna for the awesome food and hospitality. Always feel welcomed here with one of the best Southern BBQ joints in the dfw. Got me my spot now. Lol. Phenomenal home cooked food with great selection of desserts. Gotta make it here on a Sunday for them smothered pork chops haha.

Fried rib, regular rib, and brisket! So much meat you can't really see the brisket. Mac and cheese and potato salad in the back.

Saw them on yelp while driving around looking for food. The staff was helpful as I didn't know the menu well and had questions about the chefs daily special, which was meatloaf and in a tasteful unique sauce. I got the 3 meat plate with fried ribs, rubs, and brisket. Everything was really good especially the Mac and cheese on the side. I had a frozen hypnotic drink that was really good. HIGHLY recommend trying them out.

    Best baked potato ever!!

Awesome customer service!! Everyone was extremely friendly and even offered free samples :) I wanted a baked potato, but they weren't done yet, so I ordered something else. The young man that took my order went the extra mile to double check on the potatoes that were cooking and they were actually done, so I got one after all! :) My potato was huge!! And it was sooo good!! Had smoked turkey on it and man, was it tasty! My daughter and I shared it and still had some leftover. We will definitely be going back. What a hidden gem!

A whole lot of fat, and a little bit of meat...the flavor was AMAZING which makes me that much more disappointed

I tried this place because of an uber eats promotion advertising it. It was black owned so I hoped it was good. The flavor profile did not disappoint. I got the 2 meat plate with double greens, and everything tasted AMAZING. Im giving it 3 stars because I paid almost $20 for this plate and received more fat than meat

The customer service is what saved this location and gave them a three-star rating..... This location used to be Zennas back in the day. I never got a chance to eat there so I'm not able to compare the two. I however was very disappointed in the food itself. First off the potato salad was not good at all.... It was very bland in taste. The ribs we ordered were very salty for my taste. However the baked beans were pretty good. The prices seem to be about the same as everyone in the surrounding area... The customer service was top notch and the establishment was very clean! They do deliver with Ubereats so that is a plus for some people that are living in the surrounding areas... I do believe people just have different taste when it comes to barbecue and this location did not do it for me.

Best loaded baked potato in town. Today my husband and I wanted bbq. We stumbled upon this place only to discover we had already tried their soul food when they were located in Duncanville. I originally wanted jerk chicken but they were sold out. So we both ordered loaded baked potatoes.... it was a food blessing in disguise!!! I ordered ribs and spicy sausage and my husband ordered ribs and brisket. However, we were surprised to see that they added chicken to both potatoes. Let me just say I was SATISFIED with the smokey taste of the meats and the huge portions we got. The meats and potatoes were cooked to perfection!! We really could have shared one. At least we had leftovers for the next day. We will be returning soon. Hopefully before they sell out of jerk chicken and peach cobbler. The rasta pasta is also on my list to try. There was a 25-30 min wait, but I don't mind waiting when the food is this good.

Finally got to try this place. The location is hidden away in a small shopping area in Duncanville. Unless you've heard where it is, you'd miss it. Customer service is dry! The owner, Winnie I believe is her name is very friendly. She knows how to hook up the plates. No need to ask for extra anything because she's got you covered. The young women at the register is slow. She seems not to want to be bothered. I am used to someone greeting me when I walk into an establishment. When they don't I leave. The owner saved the day. As one can see from the pics, the potatoes are large and the fixins are plenty. 3 people shared 1. You'd be satisfied. So give it a try.

As soon as I walked in, who I believe was the owner greeted me and was one of the kindest, most welcoming people I've met. He took the time to walk me through the menu and answer my questions, which I really appreciated. I ended up ordering one of their loaded potatoes with pulled pork and beef, and it was incredible (you get a good amount of meat) honestly this potato was big enough for two people to share. I also tried the mac and cheese and green beans soooo good! I didn't finish most of it, but only because I had to get back to work I knew if I ate the whole thing, I wouldn't get anything done after! That's how filling it was. The atmosphere was great too. Plenty of seating, multiple TVs playing NCAA games very welcoming vibe. There was a steady flow of takeout orders I can imagine this place gets pretty busy on weekends. As someone from Los Angeles, it was really refreshing to experience such genuine hospitality. You don't always get that level of care and patience when ordering back home. I'm already looking forward to my next trip to Dallas so I can come back and try more of the menu.

Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if it cracks the Top 10 next time around. This place is exactly what you want in a serious BBQ joint. Small. No frills. Tucked off I-35 in Oak Cliff. A handful of tables inside, a few more outside, and zero wasted energy on anything that doesn't involve the food. That's usually a good sign... and it was. I went all in with the Texas Trinity Plate. Brisket, pork ribs, jalapeño sausage. No regrets. The brisket was the star. Deep, dark bark with a heavy pepper kick that hit right away. Perfect smoke ring. Tender without falling apart. Juicy without being greasy. Every bite had that rich, smoky flavor that separates good BBQ from the real deal. The ribs were solid. Great flavor, nice bite, but leaned a little heavy on the smoke for me. Not a deal breaker, just noticeable. Still very good and worth ordering. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was a win. Juicy, packed with flavor, and just enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering everything else. Then the surprise... the sweet potato casserole. That thing deserves its own review. Rich, slightly sweet, and those candied pecans on top took it to another level. Not an afterthought side, this was legit. Bottom line... Smokey Joe's is the kind of place BBQ people talk about when they say "you've gotta try this spot." It absolutely holds its own among the best in Texas, especially outside that elite Top 10 tier. If you're serious about BBQ, don't overthink it. Go.

For those sitting in the car trying to decide or others looking for BBQ in the area,my recommendation is go elsewhere. I have a very good reason for this and it's disappointment. Don't get me wrong, there was a lot to like about the place. Walking in the door into the dining full bar area,we were cheerfully greated by the bartend-ress on protocol. 48 hours into this review and I'm just at 3 paragraphs and deciding how long or not this is going to be. Texas barbecue is so dear to my heart I'm feeling an extensive review coming on. Let me finish this paragraph by mentioning a significant historical fact regarding bbq just a few blocks from here. " The" king of Dallas barbeque started not far from here. In 1935 Red Bryan started a BBQ business and became a legend. Passing the torch to his son Sonny Bryan who solidified the elevated smoking of brisket in Dallas. That era has passed and now.... We have a new movement. With the price of beef, personnel retention, operating expenses,it's gotta be one of the hardest operations in food service. But,Red,Sonny and others did it and the bar is raised for anyone else who expects you to patronize their establishment and pay today's prices. I was very disappointed in the brisket here. I should have taken it back but, wasn't in the mood. While the owners may be connected to Lockhart Texas BBQ royalty, you can't rest on your laurels. Let's give them some time to tweek the operation before we try again. At this time it's a no go.

There's a huge yard out back with plenty of picnic tables, which makes it perfect for hanging out when the weather's nice. Inside, the space is small, comfy, and neat. It feels well put together without trying too hard. There's even a fireplace that adds a nice touch--no idea if it's actually working, but it fits the vibe. The staff here really stands out. Super friendly, very polite, and they keep things simple--you order at the corner, grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. Easy and efficient. I went with the brisket taco, and it delivers. This isn't a tiny street taco--it's loaded. You get brisket, salsa negra, avocado crema, and pickled onions. The balance works really well. The salsa brings some acidity to cut through the fat, while the crema smooths everything out. Every bite comes together nicely. As for the brisket itself, the seasoning is solid but not overly aggressive. Personally, I'd like a bit more bark--it was a little thin for my taste. That said, the smoke ring is very prominent, and you can taste that deeper smoke flavor. Texture-wise, it was very tender--easily cut with a plastic fork. I did catch it later in the afternoon, and the lean slices were just a bit on the dry side for me. Overall, the vibe here is awesome and the tacos are legit. This is a spot I'll definitely be coming back to--looking forward to giving the brisket another shot, plus trying the pork ribs and some sides.
