This place has really gone down hill since ownership change. I ordered a pizza well done and told them I wanted the crust to be crispy. It was not well done at all. Also, the person at the counter when I walked in talked soooo softly you could barely hear her and I am not hard of hearing. I placed an order to go, I live about 10 mins away. I am giving one star because 0 stars in not an option. I liken the pizza to frozen pizza from a grocery store freezer section, maybe worse. It was too dry to eat, limited toppings. Caesar salad was good after spending 5 minutes cutting the lettuce into bite size pieces. They give a lot of croutons, too many, may to make up for low quality and lack of flavor. I won't be back unless I hear they have new owners or cooks. Visited on Wednesday April 16th in the evening. We walked in and a worker informed us to sit anywhere. We sat down on one of the few cleaned tables, keep in mind there were about 10-13 tables and only two other parties. The rest of the tables had left over drinks and napkins. After waiting for 5 minutes the worker came to give cups and a water pitcher then proceeded to walk away without a word being said. We sat there confused on how to order and needed to look at the menu online. We noticed the other parties eating with menus on their table. After waiting 10-15 minutes no one came to inform us how to order, no menu, and no check-in to see if we needed help. This was a very disappointing experience- 1 star cuz I can't give 0. I ordered from an app for delivery. It was 1.5 hours late from the 45 min delivery time. I called and they gave me a hard time for using the app that was on their website. Really we're not helpful at all to see where and when it would be delivered. Had to call the app to get any information. Once I finally got the cold pizza- they didn't even knock on the door- dropped it on the porch and ran away. It also wasn't close to what I ordered. No GF crust, no cheese and definitely not extra cheese as ordered and paid for. Avocado salad had majorly brown avocado. When I called again, they said they would refund. I think just to get me off the phone. No refund came. Called at least 3 additional times to talk to manager. They were never available, never a call back. Terrible customer service. Not what I ordered & paid for. They admitted to doing wrong, but then failed to make it right. Super disappointed all the way around with this place. I have a large pizza delivered via a GrubHub. The delivery was spot on right on time. Everything was perfect. That's where that ended. The pizza was a Hawaiian pizza. I ordered extra pineapple and an extra Canadian bacon. I believe they forgot the extra bacon. The toppings were good. They tasted delicious. That wasn't the problem. My problem was the crust. It was so thin on the bottom as to be nonexistent you couldn't pick it up. You had to eat it with a fork. And even though it was so thin, it was very chewy, very hard to chew. read more

I was not even planning on going there. I had already bought something else to eat. But when I saw that they were open and had slices, I had to go. Relatively on the Eastside, they are few places that serve slices. It's fine to get a whole pizza to share with friends/family (if you have any nearby) or if you can subsist on the same thing for days on end. For the rest of us, we can have our slices and small pizzas. I never knew of this place because I'm not in their delivery radius and I don't often go to Renton. But passing by it, I appreciate a place that tells you what they offer from the outside. (Slices and drinks)! They are many cute/interesting options in the menu for a full pie ( goat cheese anyone?). But those options were more limited for slices. I do think it was partially because some pizzas were cooking in the oven and I came at the post noon time. The pre-order/pickup options didn't seem to advocate for slices. However, I was not deterred since my personal policy is to try a pepperoni slice when I first go to a pizza place (keeping things consistent is important for studies like these). The menu item is called pep perfection and you will see why in my photos. That slice was COVERED in pepperoni (from crust to the pizza point and width wise as well). I also need to appreciate that they had special boxes for their slices. So I was able to take it home and eat it on my couch. Overall, I was satisfied with my visit. The pizza came, not much sauce and the pizza was doughy and undercooked in the middle of the crust. I took a piece to show they took it back and put it back in the oven for under a minute. Pepperoni was spicy, couldn't taste the sausage. Threw away the two pieces that we started with. I got a 16" but feel ripped. It still seemed undercooked just slightly more warm temp wise. Read the reviews and thought this would be a great place to try but I gotta say, it was ok. I would rate it a 3.5. First it's very hard to find a parking spot. Not necessarily anything they can fix but maybe employees (all kinds of employee parking signs) need to park further away so there is room for customers. Ok. We ordered the Pep Perfection Pizza and a garden salad a tea and a coke (fountain pop was down so cans only) After waiting 15 minutes we got up to ask about the salad. They said oh we bring that out with the pizza .. um lie. We saw another couple eating salad when we got there and there pizza showed up 10 minutes later. So we waited another 10 minutes in the sauna and our pizza showed up but no salad. Waited another 5 minutes after we mentioned it and it finally came. Ok. Got past that. Now the food. Garden salad was really good with fresh crisp lettuce, nice pieces of tomato, and mozzarella cheese which surprised me as my can of coke was sweating by now so I figured on a wilted salad, but it was good. The pizza however was meh. Lots of pepperoni which is always good, the sauce was good but I could not for the life of me see any cheese. "What you say", yep little to no cheese. I guess it's there way. It was still ok. Crust was chewy till you got to the outer edge where it was perfectly crunchy with just right amount of burn. So yeah I give it a 3.5. Smoking Monkey used to be my favorite pizza place. Now, under new management, or ownership, it has changed dramatically. No more thin crispy crust. Just regular generic thick crust and the crust is burned on top. The iconic box with a monkey on it? Gone. Replaced with a generic pizza box. I've not been to the restaurant since it changed hands so can't comment on that. But the pizza just isn't as good as it used to be. read more
