It was a cool 74°F--feeling just like LA weather--and the breathtaking, open mountain views gave me a completely different vibe from the winter landscape. The lodge hotel is divided into a restaurant and a bar, and you can order food from both areas. Personally, I prefer sitting at the bar because the view is simply stunning. We ordered the Steak Frites and Honey Spiced Chicken Wings, and both were absolutely delicious. I love this place bc makes me so peaceful!!! Highly recommend escaping the Vegas heat here! The vibe/aesthetic is very cabin lodge in the mountains, bears, very vintage games, taxidermy mounts on the walls, very on brand. Check-in was a really easy process, the front desk employees were incredibly kind and very helpful. I really appreciate that they were able to hold my bags for me until check-in. The retreat has a bar, a restaurant, and a café. The only thing that I did not do was go in the café. The bar was pretty busy when we were there in the evening, the employees seemed a little bit overwhelmed, but did the best they could with how many people were there. There are gorgeous views of the mountains from the bar in the daytime. You can order food from the bar, if the restaurant is too busy. My friend had dinner at the bar she got a fettuccine Alfredo that she said was really good. We had breakfast there the next day and had the kindest waitress, and she just had such a beautiful energy to her. And the portions are huge and really good. I did scrambled eggs with breakfast potatoes, fruit, and tea, Absolutely perfect. There are no elevators at the hotel, so if you are staying on the top floor, just know that you have to bring everything upstairs and there's quite a few stairs you have to take. (Even if you're staying on the first floor, you still have to take one flight of stairs.) We did the balcony double queen room, it's a pretty decent size though the ceiling is slanted so it's not as tall in some places, but it had a nice charm to it. The balcony sits two people and has a gorgeous view from the front of the mountains. I absolutely loved waking up and going out there. The room was definitely outdated, the beds were alright, more on the soft firm side, sheets were clean, two pillows per bed. Interesting that there was no phone in the room if we needed to call the front desk or housekeeping for anything. One thing I will say that I was pretty shocked by is how dirty the floors were in the room. My feet were completely black, so next time I stay up there I know to bring slippers or slides. The shower was pretty interesting, it took quite a bit for the hot water to turn on and the knob turned a whole 360 and would shut off if you accidentally went back to the beginning from the other direction, But once it was hot, it was really hot! The tub/shower was definitely a little worn down. There is a timed heat light in the bathroom in case you get cold. The bathroom had the typical towels, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, soap, bars, toilet paper, and tissues. The room had a coffee machine with coffee packets, cups, etc. and an ice bucket. And a mini fridge in the cabinet under the TV. The nightstand has outlets on the side of it. There were two chairs in the room, the nightstand, the dresser, and then there was another mini dresser and a mini closet and a full length mirror. The TV does have a few stations and then you can log into Netflix from what I saw on the TV. There is free Wi-Fi but they give you a little piece of paper with a code and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and then you have to go back to the front desk because they aren't sure which ones work. My experience at the retreat was very lovely, I was there for a wellness event and it was absolutely beautiful and I hope they continue to have events like that up there more often. I love the lobby and the aesthetics. There's a lot of character throughout the first floor of the hotel, like they even have trees growing from in the center in the ballroom. But as a Vegas local that grew up in the hotels, I do have a pretty high standard for cleanliness in hotel rooms and the room seemed clean on the surface, but wasn't as clean as I thought it was at first. So I know for next time to be more aware of that from the beginning.

Unfortunately, our experiences have been consistently disappointing. We have eaten here four times. The only genuinely positive service experience we had was when we sat at the bar. The other three visits, when dining with our kids, involved long waits to be seated and then extended periods sitting at the table without any service or acknowledgment. Our most recent experience was especially frustrating. We brought friends who were considering purchasing a home in Mountain Falls and wanted to introduce them to the community over lunch. We stood at the entrance of a half-empty restaurant for roughly five minutes before anyone acknowledged us. When someone finally did, we were simply told they were "behind" and that we would "have to wait awhile." There was no estimate, no effort to make us comfortable, and no attempt to improve the experience by seating us at one of the many empty tables so we could at least look over the menus and order drinks while they caught up. We waited another 15 minutes without any additional acknowledgment before deciding to leave and go elsewhere. The unfortunate part is that this place has real potential. The location, views, and atmosphere could easily make it a destination spot for people coming through Pahrump or for residents looking to entertain guests. But mediocre food can only survive if the service is excellent. Right now, the combination of mediocre food and consistently poor service makes it difficult to justify returning. I genuinely hope management turns it around because this restaurant could be far better than what it currently delivers.

We had our medical service dog with us and were the only people in the entire restaurant. When we walked in we were asked if our dog was a service dog, said yes, ordered our food and sat down near the door. From our table we could very clearly hear the cook in the back venting to the waitress about how anyone can just claim their dog is a service dog, clearly directed at us. It was uncomfortable to say the least. When the waitress came back out we offered to eat outside or show our documentation, she said she didn't need to see it and was fine with the dog staying inside, which we appreciated. To her credit, the waitress ended up being really warm and we actually had a nice conversation with her. She mentioned that only 31 people live in Shoshone full time and that most of the staff commutes in from Pahrump, which gave us a little more context for the town. The food was on the pricier side but I get it, running a restaurant in a place this small where you never quite know who's passing through has to be a challenge. The bathrooms were clean. Honestly though, we just wanted to finish our meal and get out. The experience left us feeling uncomfortable despite the waitress doing her best to turn it around.
