Every table was full and for good reason. The tiny buffet had the very best fried chicken in the Midwest! There were minimal accompaniments to choose from but at the same time, it was all you needed! Fluffy mashed potatoes, hearty gravy, cheesy Mac and cheese, creamy coleslaw, dinner rolls, cottage cheese, and the traditional Midwest green whipped cream, marshmallow and pineapple salad. Traveling through the area at supper time and for some reason this jumped out at me on the Yelp list. I'm so glad it did! The mushrooms appetizer was a great start to the meal and it only got better. Had the three piece broasted chicken dinner with slaw and wedges. The chicken I ate was crunchy yet also extremely juicy and moist. The service was outstanding from the greeting walking in the door through the check. My glass was never empty, Theresa made great recommendations, and all of the meal arrived hot and fresh in a timely manner. Loved the ambiance too! I called in an order today at 8pm. They said it would take 20 min. When we got there to pick up the order, they said they never received our order. The lady I talked with who I believe was the same person that took the order (she argued that she did not take the order) said she never got my phone call and I had to replace my order and wait another 20 min. They didn't apologize for the issue at all and made us pay full price. Edit: Brought the food home and the order is wrong. Called and spoke with a manager and they didn't offer any solutions and once again did not apologize for the mishap. The customer service here is the absolute WORST. We now have people here that don't get to eat because they are now closing. I can't stress enough how bad this experience has been. read more

Hands down the best broasted chicken in Iowa. I grew up in the North west Iowa area but moved to Las Vegas for 26 years and we come back to visit family in Cherokee every Memorial and Labor Day and we always make Sneaky's a must stop, cannot miss every time we come back to Iowa. Nothing compares to Sneaky's chicken. Now that I have moved back to Cherokee, I have made the hour long drive 4 times in a 3 week span since being back just to eat Sneaky's Chicken. With a name like Sneaky's Chicken and a cute logo featuring one of the Midwest's most beloved animals... The trash panda. Was there really any need to look further? I think not. We're from Des Moines IA and we were passing through Sioux City IA on the way back from Sioux Falls SD. How else do you pick lunch in an area you're not familiar with? Yelp of course. I caught one of the server's attention, as we walked in, and quickly asked if we needed to wait to be seated. She smiled and put her hand on my arm... "Just go ahead and take a seat anywhere honey." We slid into a booth near the bar where the Army v. Michigan NCAAF game caught my attention. A server quickly stepped up and asked if we were there for the buffet. An all you can eat broasted/fried chicken buffet? Okay... Forget football. Now YOU have my attention. She said the buffet was $9 and change and it came with a drink. I asked if I could take a look at the buffet before we made a final decision. She said no problem. Lettuce salad fixin's, dinner rolls, chicken, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, and spaghetti. And the chicken looked really good. We grabbed two buffet plates. Everything else was as expected...except the gravy. I'm not sure who's mama taught these guys to make gravy, but she's got to be divorced multiple times for not feeding her man right. Lawd... I like my gravy like I like my women... Thick. And this stuff was thin...built like a 1" x 8". Someone needs to go back to basics 101. A little corn starch or flour and cold water go a long way. Who am I kidding though... I learned a long time ago you don't go to a buffet for the salad or bread. That's filler. Right before I grabbed my plate a gal walked up with a big ole warming pan of fresh, steaming, broasted chicken. A good mix of white and dark meat. I'd plated one dinner roll and grabbed three split breasts. They looked fantastic. I even dug down for a turkey sized one I spotted under the first layer. Score! It's okay to take what you want, but I had to avoid contact with the three men behind me in line. I know they were hating on me. And I'm okay with that. I did give them a bit of smirk/half-assed grin when I walked by to get my next plate. They know the game. My girl... She took a little of this and a little of that. smh Amateur. I tried to explain the needed strategy, but she didn't care. I tried a couple bites of hers as I wasn't going to waste my time, or plate space, on anything but the chicken. The mac n cheese was good...a little sharp, but creamy. Spaghetti...good. Mashed potatoes were fine. I didn't touch the gravy (kind of covered that above), and I wasn't feeling the corn. Service was excellent. Quick to greet, quick with the menus (offering the buffet), drink refills came fast along with busing our empty plates. The food on the buffet stayed full and fresh. The place itself... The interior is what you'd expect from the exterior. It's not a Michelin star restaurant. It's a little dated and has probably seen better days. BUT I judge a chicken restaurant on the chicken and this is a great little casual joint with some damn good chicken. From what I could see they do a decent amount of take-out and catering business too along with dine-in. If you're in the area I'd recommend you swing in here and get some. I wasn't expecting a buffet, but for $9.18 it was a great deal and just what this road weary traveler needed for the rest of the drive back to Kansas City. The salad part of the buffet was pretty lame with not much more than lettuce and 2 salad dressings, but there was a couple of pre-made items like slaw and a pasta salad... We initially came here in 2015 with my grandparents and made the decision that if we're making the trip to Montana we'll drive through Sioux City just to eat here again and we're glad we did! Almost eight years later it's just as good! They've had a remodel and it's made the restaurant look a bit more modern while the outside maintains its original charm. My mom, grandma and I had the buffet which had the broasted chicken, pork chops and for sides green beans, corn and salad fixins. My nephews had a cheeseburger and shrimp special. We liked the buffet much more than the nephews liked their menu items. The staff was very friendly and attentive and I can't wait to bring Mr. Partner here next time we're driving through the country! read more

I originally learned about Sneaky's Chicken from an instructor at Western Iowa Tech Community College. I was excited to go back on Saturday to see if it was as good as I remembered it. It wasn't very busy when we arrived, but by the time we were done the place was full with people standing at the door. I ordered the two piece which is a breast and a leg and the two sides I choose were mashed potatoes with gravy and coleslaw. The meal comes with a biscuit. The star is the chicken and it's not Sneaky, it's straight up phenomenal juicy, delicious, fresh chicken that blows you away. Definitely as good as I remember. The mashed potatoes seamed to be instant and were just OK with me. The coleslaw was the same. I would definitely try some different sides next time. The staff were good and I will definitely be back to get some chicken if in the area. You can also get it to go. read more

Sneaky's is fried chicken at its finest: perfectly crisp, moist, and well seasoned. When I want fried chicken, this is exactly what I crave. The sides did not stand out much but when the chicken is the shining star, they just have to be good (and they are). In addition to the perfect chicken, they also have cheap beer. It was even cheaper for us to get a half pitcher than two separate glasses. If I must drink more beer to save a little money, so be it. The service was outstanding and our waitress was incredibly friendly. She checked in at the right times, always making sure we had everything we needed. She also offered to turn up the volume on the TV so that we could watch the football game. The restaurant was mostly empty and we appreciate the gesture greatly. It's not much of a buffet... however, unlimited chicken. So that's a huge positive. Would love to have tried their potato wedges, but they don't come on the buffet. Tried mashed potatoes and chicken gravy, really good flavor and consistency. Tried the potato salad and macaroni salad, really good flavor. If you're looking for good fried chicken, stop looking. You've found it. Not only is the chicken amazing when you dine-in, but I swear their catering is even better. I actually used Sneaky's to cater my wedding! I wanted food that I know people would love, so I stuck to a great classic/staple. Sneaky's doesn't disappoint. The reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because if you go to eat IN the restaurant their sides aren't always the best. Chicken is always amazing, but when you eat-in the potatoes, veggies, gravy, etc. can be hit or miss. They really shine with their catering. I'm also not a huge fan of their roast beef. I find it dry. But smother on the mashed potatoes and gravy and you have a hit! Catering is also nice because they provide all the cutlery you need. I can't even count how often I've eaten or used their catering; it's too much! Their buffet is the best bet if you're eating in. They also have a bar. You can order menu items but don't. Just go to town on the chicken. The legs are the best. Not sure how exactly they make it but the skin on that chicken I just want to wear. You can smell it just driving by.
