Asked a local on the pier for a good neighborhood bar. Snicker's was at the top of her list so we went there. Drinks are priced pretty well for a heavy pour. We met so many amazing people here it made Snicker's feel like a hometown bar. if you are going to pregame it up, this should be your first stop. read more

It is what it is. A dive bar that also serves some food. I am rating on my experience and it was a good one. Stopped in at night after a dinner down the street. Found two stools open at the bar and started putting them back. Place was pretty packed with a good jukebox selection. Had a few tv's with games on. Pretty decent selection of beer and liquor. Didn't really notice if they had craft beers and can't remember if they had draft beer. I was drinking Old Style bottles. Two hot polish bartenders that served fast and good all night. Voted number 1 dive bar in Chicago this place takes the cake. I was there for the first time last week, and saw why it was voted number 1. The polish girls behind the bar are hot, booze is cheap, and the girls are easy. Even though my girlfriends friends said the same thing about the guys. This place is gross!! A rat ran by my feet from a back door by the bathroom to behind the bar. I told the short/bald manager named John. He joked that it was his tenant. The place smells horrible. $7 tap beers, $10 cocktails, the terrible odor of filth and grease is free. Toothless prostitutes running around with their pimps not far behind. Pan handlers man the door practically shaking you down on the way in. and out. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking to get food poisoning, or to get mugged. This place actually started out as "The State Street Deli". It basically was a deli/diner. John, the owner, slowly metamorphasized the place into a diner/bar over the years. Yeah, some folks call it a "dive" but it's more than that, it's a neighborhood meeting place. I frequented the place daily for years on my coffee breaks. During daytime hours, the only time I've ever been there, it's filled with the same familiar faces. All walks of life come through the door. Sometimes street people come in only to be shown the door by the bouncer! Don't come in expecting to find a "fern bar" as Snickers is anything but. This place is strictly blue collar. If you want atmosphere, walk north on State to Grand and stop at the minibrew on the corner. Yes, the barmaids are pretty much Polish immigrants trying to make a buck. And there is a high turnover with them as they move up. The grill is greasy but have you ever seen a pristine grill? The food's not bad, I never got sick. Randomly stopped here one day and showed up for the next five days straight. It's only a dive bar because of the other choices in River North. The food is American grill food. The drinks are drinks with a nice selection of beers. They are not shy about pouring the booze in the mixed drinks either and the prices are easy on the wallet. Every single bartender is a very hot Polish girl. I'm not kidding. They are friendly and good at what they do. The owner is usually around, good guy. Touch Tunes jukebox keeps something for everyone playing and the televisions have the best games on. The people, well, the people come from all walks of like with a core of River North regulars. It's a fun place to meet new people, both locals and out of towners. No two days or nights are the same here which makes it a fun and interesting hangout. Definitely give it a look and have a drink or two here. The bar area was crowded at 11AM, while our group of seven went for breakfast on recommendation by the doorman at our hotel one block over. Super long wait with everything, from getting a menu, to drink orders, food orders, etc. Orange juice orders tasted like Tang mix. Definitely understaffed with waitresses. Creamer brought out for coffee expired over a month ago, though it was quickly replaced with a fresh container. Breakfast was just ok. Somewhat overpriced with poor service will probably guide us to another breakfast place for the remainder of our trip. read more
