I contacted Bachan and they got back to me right away ( unlike some other vendors who took forever to respond and lost out ). Joy ( from Bachan) informed me they had another event that day but they would be able to acommodate my party. The reservation was easy. I filled out their form and picked all the wonderful flavors and we were all set. On the day of the party, they set up quickly and my guests were ready to try all the flavors! Their staff of 2 ( Audrey and Laura ) was so nice and explained the different flavors and toppings to my guests! I have to say my favorite was THAI TEA with Coconut Cream topping!! Don't hesistate to call Joy and her team and Bachan and get them for your party! I will DEFINITELY use them again!

Everything's made fresh to order but the waiting time was relatively decent. They did serve plenty of choices including for vegetarian options. We got their Spicy Salmon and Sunny Blue Curry. The first one was bit more tomato-ey flavor to my palate than spicy. The rice was perfectly cooked and moist coated in crunchy nori wrap. The salmon was pretty generous as well. I would recommend the latter more though as the curry flavor was so bold and delectable, well elevating the tender chicken.

We were staying in K-Town this time so we went to the Sawtelle location. We stopped by after dinner so I was a little worried they might have run out of mochi but luckily, it looked like they still had everything available. I was just going to add mochi as a topping but then my son pointed out M.B.R. I was like, "What is that???" He explained that it stands for Mochi, Brown Sugar Syrup, and Roasted Soybean Powder toppings. Those are some of my favorite flavors together so of course, I had to get that instead! The brown sugar syrup was a little overpowering but it was still delicious! Their ice cream tastes just like the soft-serve ice cream I get in Japan which I absolutely love. You just can't compare it to the ordinary soft serve you get in the US. I wish I could have this any day I wanted! We'll be back in LA again next year so I'll definitely be going back!

I wish they would offer popping pearls and a few more flavor options but in the end it is a great sweet treat. Inside is pretty small and is more designed to go, which is what we did. Both of the employees working were polite and everything was made in a few minutes. They don't have a dedicated parking lot, but we were able to find a space directly in front so parking is really easy in this part of town. For this visit, I chose cherry and strawberry and got a large and it was honestly huge. I would say medium is more than fine and a large is something that would be hard to finish. I would recommend this to any fan of Hawaiian shaved ice and would stop in again next time I am in this part of town.

Is it just ice and syrup? What toppings? Do they cost more? Is there a cap on syrup? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY.... Is there ice-cream Involved in this deal? Well... I arrived and took a look at the menu I asked the guy behind the counter "How does this work? Do you guys have ice-cream in your HAWAIIAN shaved ice? " To which he passive aggressively responded "The menu is here... " (pointed above his head) "The menu is there... " (pointed at the wall to the left of him) "You can do any one those... did you need more time?" It took me a bit to process what happened because perhaps I'm an idiot and maybe I didn't read the menu correctly, maybe I missed something... So I looked at the menu again and realized that nothing made any sense! The menus are poorly written The more I looked at both menus, the more I was confused.... I ordered a cup, didn't care what size it was, got two flavors, called it a day.. not worth my time or energy. Just glad I wasn't a dad with my little daughter in that scenario... it would be a great way to ruin a Sunday evening with your kid. There's better shaved ice options out there

Sometimes I wonder where I will start and finish a review, but this one is easy. Pia, the…read morerestaurant manager. She should start a school on restaurant and hospitality management. Seriously. Places should send their people to watch her work. She is the best I have encountered. My buddy was taking me out for my birthday and our reservation (which was somewhere else TBH got cancelled due to a kitchen issue). He suggested Orla, and being a big Michael Mina fan I was in. The restaurant is big but typical for a hotel spot, but it has a warmth to it. A lot of that is due to being greeted by Pia, escorted to your table, and getting a wonderful history of the restaurant, chef, menu and drinks. As the day turns into night, we were treated to a gong and some dancers. Nice touch. And then the food and drinks! Forgot to take a pic of the cocktail menu, so I cannot recall what we had exactly, but both were exceptional, especially the one made tableside (Porus I think, with ocho plata tequila, aperol strawberry, grapefruit and butterfly tea in a tableside infusion) I think I had the Son of Amun with yola mezcal, apricot, ginger, lemon and miracle foamer. Expensive? Yes, but delicious. I looked online for the menu, but it seemed different when we were there. Pia suggested a half and half on spreads since we were indecisive, and that was a great call. Half Whipped Chickpea Hummus with tahini, paprika, za'atar, extra virgin olive oil and half Muhammara with toasted walnuts, roasted peppers, pomegranate molasses. Both were phenomenal but know extra pita comes with a charge. There is homemade chili crisp on the table that you might be tempted to drink. It's that good. We started with Grilled Octopus with gigante beans, red onions, capers, sea beans. Perfection in flavor and texture. The Saganaki finished tableside came with roasted wild mushrooms, black truffle honey, greek brandy and was some of the best I've add. Wish that recipe was in the book, but I will figure it out. For the mains I went with the Mediterranean Sea Bass and my buddy had the Swordfish... both the Greek Way with lemon, caper, oregano, vinaigrette. The Sea Bass was cooked to perfection and one of the best I have had. After all that food we were way too stuffed for dessert, but Pia made sure to end the meal with a birthday gift for me. Wow. Did I mention how good she is? Now I need to come back and have Michael sign my cookbook... and tell me how to make that Saganaki. Thank you to Pia and the whole staff. What a great B-day dinner!

Orla by Michael Mina is in the Regent hotel on Ocean in Santa Monica. It is beautiful with spectacular views - very nice hotel with a great bar and lovely restaurant. Short version is service was great and the views were excellent, but portion size was small and food was good, but low value for the extraordinarily high prices. Good creative drinks, but very small and very expensive. Food: all dishes were tasty/good but not amazing for the cost. Our expectations were quite high (which may skew this review) but for a party of five, with one drink each, some appetizers and mains and family style food, for a bill with tip around $500 - it was just far too expensive for the quality of food, etc. Good but would not return.
