Nice shop with lots of snorkeling equipment ranging from very economic to high-end. My husband and I bought the pricier set b/c it was my first time snorkeling and I have a slight phobia when it comes to swimming in ocean waters. The last thing I want is to have water seep in through my goggles and then freak out in the sea! The lady there was very friendly, but the REAL treat was the mini schnauzer!!! She said it was the owner's dog and let me tell ya, that dog was the sweetest, cutest schnauzer I have ever seen. She jumped up on my lap and then went to my husband to ask him for a belly rub. GAH!!!! I wanted to steal her. But anyway, this is a great store and if you're really lucky, you might be able to see the pup as well. :) read more

Total rip off. Go buy them at ABC store or Wal-Mart. Approx $40 a piece for less than a week. My friend didn't want fins and they charged us full price. No senior discount either. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is the cashier was very friendly and gave us maps of fish and good snorkeling spots. I will bring my equipment from home next time. read more

This place is amazing and the staff is extremely knowledgeable. I am so glad we paid them a visit because it made our vacation that much more memorable overall. We were in Oahu for a few days and after that we were heading out to kauai. We were pleased to know that we can bring the gear with us and return it on the other island which allowed us even more time to enjoy the ocean and all of it's wonderful fish. Nick went above and beyond he even had excellent recommendations on where to snorkel to maximize our outings. i wish i had gone with my instinct and rented with Snorkel Bob's in Kauai as they have the inter-island drop off, as I ended my Hawaii stay in Oahu. I went with the budget rental which can be as cheap as $3/day, but paid $6 for the better mask. For a week it would've been $9! Snorkel, mask and fins is what you get in a nice little mesh bag. They also give you a detailed map wtih where to snorkel on the island, as well as a fish guide which was nice to see which fish I was looking at as well. They also have a drop off box if you end up returning after hours. Very convenient, although the worker was a little bit stand offish, but enjoyed my rental regardless! read more

We are visiting Honolulu the first time and our friend recommend us to check out Snorkel Bob. This shop is so great. It has all variety of equipment you need, from mask, fin and even floating belt (for not so great swimmer like me). Nick from the shop was super friendly and helpful. He helps us not only find the right fit gears, patiently answer questions for us, also recommend places for us to visit such as famous hot dog stand and place to surf etc. Great place and great people! Also to mention - best part is when you rent equipment, you can drop them off after hours in the box. Lastly, We paid around $70 for two day rental for two of us. Went here today to rent snorkeling vests for the week for the kids. The staff was outstanding! Prompt service with a great explanation on how the vests work. Pricing was fair and seemed better than competitors based on online searches. Staff also took the time to recommend great snorkeling locations around the island that were family friendly. SB's is easy, convenient, and on all islands. I saw Snorkel Bob bags more during my stay on the Big Island, where I first tried some snorkeling. After that, we were hooked, and we knew to find SB's for a rental before our trip to Honomau Bay. The highest level gear (mask, fins, snorkel) was $8 a day; they are open as early as 8am and you can drop off your stuff in the box if you miss their hours. (Contrary to another reviewer, I thought it was as cheap as $9/week for rental... but check it out). They also have interisland drop off, so you can rent on one, and go ahead and snorkel elsewhere (I'm definitely doing that next time). It's really easy, convenient, and inexpensive with SB. read more

This place is well-known as one of the best places to get snorkel equipment in Waikiki. Lots of gear, friendly service and they even give you anti-fog solution and a fish guide. We wanted some snorkeling gear for a couple of hours so we did some yelping and found that Snorkel Bob's was near by our destination and the cheapest. We had no problems with the gear, but the service was what ruined it all. SERVICE: One of the most awkward and uncomfortable experiences I have had with customer service. Had a weird vibe once we walked in. The guy was not too friendly and seemed like it was a chore to help us. When we asked him questions about the gear, he had a snarky look to his face. The way he would talk to us was demeaning as if we should know better. And with the different options we had with the quality of snorkels, if you didnt choose the very best or the one that was recommended, he made you feel like you were making the biggest mistake of your life. some chuckles here and there to himself which was another demeaning thing he did to us. When I was trying on my fins, they said to do something to check it doesnt slip off. One side kept slipping off so I had to change sizes and for some reason, one side was always slipping (maybe my foot is small on one side?). It took a while for me to find out that the brand of the fins was what caused this trouble (was loose around my ankle). Through this ordeal, I felt as though I was causing him so much trouble. I am glad I was able to find one that actually fits, but I shouldnt have felt bad about it! GEAR: Honestly the gear was totally fine. I got the cheapest one and it was great! It didnt fog or leak at all. They pretty much said I will definitely have water leak into my goggles and I will not enjoy my time, but that didnt happen at all. Others I was with got the "better version" and it worked fine too. OVERALL: The gear was great. The convenience of being able to drop it off in a drop box after hours was awesome (even though we didnt need to use it). Too bad the service is what did it. I probably wouldnt come back just because of the service. We all felt uncomfortable and "stupid" for renting gear. Not worth it to save a couple dollars! read more

If you rent snorkel gear there - try on everything first before leaving the store! The girl behind the counter waited on us, and had us try on one flipper for size. Then when we got to the North Shore (1+ hour drive from Waikiki, I found out that one flipper was smaller than the other - and painfully so. UGH!! Don't try on just one flipper and assume they gave you 2 of the same size! Also, we specifically asked for a fish card - which is part of their advertised package - so we could ID the fish when we saw them. The same girl who messed up my flippers said they were out of cards, but since we were renting for a week, I could come back in a few days to get one; not too practical when we are staying on the North Shore. When we returned the gear, I was credited for my week of flipper rental ($11), along with apologies. They also gave us the fish cards, so we could ID what we saw in the days prior. read more

The standard for renting aquatic play stuff. Good quality body boards for under $10 a day. Snorkels, good masks, fins, the works. No fishing stuff. Easy return policy. You can even return stuff after they are closed, through their big return slot. Outlets on most islands, and multiple outlets on Oahu. Not sure, but you may be able to rent on one island, and return it on another. Ask. Handy if you're visiting multiple islands on your trip. read more

Snorkel Bob made snorkel gear renting really easy! They have a lot of different options for you to choose from with different prices. They let us try on different masks and made suggestions based on our face shape and sizes. I think I ended up paying $9.00 for my gear for 1 day. I also added the $0.60 insurance incase my gear was stolen at the beach. The guy that helped us was very nice, he told us that we were a bit late to go to Hanauma Bay and should wait until 1:30pm when it clears up a bit. He showed us other areas where we could snorkel in the meantime. Returning the gear was very easy since they had a drop off box where you can return your gear in after they close. read more

The price does add up quickly but the equipment was in good shape. I wish they took a bit more time with the sizing. My husband ended up with fins that were so tight they gave him blisters after one use. The guy explained that they should be tight enough that your heel doesn't slip out, but didn't mention what "too tight" was. This is partially my husbands fault for not asking. Also they don't take American Express which resulted in us having to drive back to the hotel as we were "traveling lean" on our way to the beach. Really wish they took Amex. Also we couldn't even pay cash because they need a huge deposit to cover in case you don't bringthe equipment back and we didn't have like $400 cash on us. They do have an "any time of day drop box" which is convenient though. read more

The employee helping us out was so informative and patient with our questions. Loved that she explained everything so thoroughly so we felt confident using the equipment. The best place to get your snorkel gear in Oahu! We kid $26 for two sets of their best gear including a de-fogger which really came in handy (be sure to read the instructions on how to apply correctly because it's definitely worth it - free too!) we went North to Shark's Cove and was truly blown away the abundance of different fishes! We went to rent gear in the late afternoon the day before we snorkeled in Hanauma Bay. It was super easy and convenient to get fitted and we only wish we had extra days on our vacation to snorkel more! The girl was very friendly and answered my questions about rental period (a day is a full 24 hours, there's a giant mail slot to drop off gear after hours like a library), when to get to Hanauma Bay (hint: ass early), and how to navigate the coral reefs there. I though about buying cheap gear at an ABC store but this was the way to go...You get fins and anti-fog goop and the snorkel is much nicer and was very clean. My wife is a germaphobe and thought they did a great job. Make it easy for yourself and rent the good gear here for your snorkeling vacation. read more

Rented snorkel and fins for a week while in Oahu. Reserved online and picked up with great customer service. My husband wasn't sure about getting a prescription mask so we didn't reserve one. When we got their the staff recommended he try the prescription one cause he had his glasses on. They fitted him with the perfect mask! He was able to see great and without their help would have been unsure what to get and probably would have just seen blurry fish! The quality of the gear is great and was very reasonable for the week. Definitely better than renting at every spot! Also talked us through where to go and gave us a line to call about conditions. My girlfriend and I took a tour to the sandbar and sea turtle hangout. We also did a 45 min or so snorkeling excursion. All in one day and one price of $80. It was a lot of fun and a good rate. I just wish there would of been a discount if I drove myself instead of waiting for the bus at the over crowded bus depot in Hilton village. A little pricey if you want the better snorkel equipment (fins, mask, de-fogging solution): $13/day. And better means that the air tube doesn't recirculate your old air but I wish they had the ones that kept the water out when waves come crashing. I found myself needing to come up out of the water to empty it out and it kind of ruined my experience. The staff here are very friendly and helpful though. Great spot and the staff is very helpful. I personally used this location for renting snorkel gear, which worked out great since my wifes feet are so small. They even had prescription masks so she didn't have to wear her glasses either. The products they offered were very good and affordable. I booked a scuba trip with Oahu Diving and needed to rent prescription goggles, and it was recommended that I come here. The guy at the front desk was very sweet and picked out the perfect goggles for me in seconds! All he did was look through my glasses, and BOOM! picked out my prescription in goggles.
