Beautiful ride. Trail was alittle scary. Horses were well trained. Lots of fun. Money's worth

My family took a group of 6 this week (June, ie hot), on a ride during the mid morning around 8:30-10am. My party was mostly inexperienced riders, with a few with a bit more riding background. There were two pre-teen riders and the rest of us were adults. When we arrived at 8am the trail head the trailer and horses were already being tacked up. Our guide, Mike, was very patient with us and did an excellent job of explaining what to expect of the ride and our horses. We rode using western style tack and neck reining technique, with a good description by Mike. I appreciate that Snow Canyon Trails offers helmets for the full party (Optional for adults) which fit well and were comfortable, as well as little bags to carry water and valuables. There was not much downtime after our 8:30 start time when Mike assisted my party with mounting and we were off! The ride itself was fantastic; even with the hot sun, the location of the selected trail offered some shade, and there was a nice breeze. The only open areas where we were in mainly direct sun was the start/end of the trail as we were near the trailer parking. Mike offered commentary of the local area at a volume loud enough to be perfectly clear even to the last rider. There were some moments of downtime, but we were not only entertained by the beautiful scenery, but also expert information regarding our riding animals, the plants and animals we came across, and the local rock formations. The horses were very easy going without any incident, spooking or tiring out. Just in case other reviewers are wondering, this is a walking pace ride. We stayed at the same speed for the duration of the 90 minute ride. I wouldn't have expected otherwise, as the trail was quite rocky, dusty and between quite a bit of brush. After we arrived back at the trailer and dismounted there was a bit of confusion regarding the payment, which I believe was mainly due to the communication between who arranged the ride, and those who attended the ride. However payment was still handled pretty easily with a creditcard. Overall the ride was very enjoyable, and I would highly recommend it. As a side note, even though I never spoke with Patty the owner at all, I also heard that she was very helpful with our group to provide a lot of information regarding the area when we were setting up the event. Thank you again!

We did this yesterday and really loved everything about it. Mike is a great guide who knows about the plants and history of the land; he's also very funny! He is also great with kids (my 6 yo daughter was getting led in the front and he was sharing facts about the plants and animal tracts with her). The scenery is breathtaking. The horses are all very sweet. It is also very clear that Mike loves his horses and they are well taken care of. He treats them gently and this is so important when horseback riding to support a company that is kind and treat their animals like family. Highly recommend.

We had a great ride with amazing views and an all in all great experience. I called less than 24 hours before to make a reservation and we made one easily. Our guide, Mike, was very nice and courteous and talked us through everything. The horses were extremely well behaved and you seldom have to use your reins. This is an amazing business and I highly recommend it to everyone looking for a trail ride.

Paria Canyon-Vermillion Cliffs is a designated wilderness area within the Vermillion Cliffs…read moreNational Monument, which straddles the border between Utah and Arizona and is approximately 40 miles East of Kanab, UT. This wilderness area wraps around the northern side of the monument and encompasses the Paria River canyon and other smaller, connected canyons. It is also the site of the famous landmark known as "The Wave," though that area (called 'Coyote Buttes North') is only accessible via permit; and such a permit can only obtained via a lottery system. But if, like us, you don't win that lottery, this beautiful area still has plenty to offer, namely: stunning slot canyon hiking. PCVC wilderness area is accessible via three trail-heads on two different roads off Hwy 89. We chose the Wire Pass trail-head off House Rock Road, which involved just over 20 miles of driving on a winding, sandy (and sometimes rutted) dirt road off the highway. (Note: this road is not passable after heavy rain). Our destination was the Paria River canyon itself, which can be reached from the the trail-head by passing through Wire Pass. Long story short, our hike was beautiful. Wire Pass itself narrowed from a wide 'wash' to a narrow slot canyon about 50 ft high, and we could feel the temperature drop about 10 degrees as we entered the latter. There was at least one semi-treacherous spot where a steep, blind climb-down over a large rock was required (I was glad to have long legs). The canyon opened up a bit at the confluence with Paria River canyon, before transforming again into a wider but much deeper slot canyon downstream. But due to the dangers of flooding in this narrow space, we ended up turning back before our planned turnaround point, since we sighted (and heard) some big thunderheads about 20 miles or so upstream. (We agreed not to die of stupidity). But we still had a great day. Other things you should know before visiting Paria Canyon-Vermillion Cliff Wilderness: -- A permit is needed for backpacking overnight in Paria Canyon -- Don't think you can just sneak over to 'The Wave' without a permit. It is patrolled daily; and fines range from $1k to $10k. They've even been known to impound vehicles -- If hiking a long distance in Paria canyon, you will get wet; wading through some deep pools may be required (so bring water shoes and hiking poles) -- All poop must be packed out (You heard me) -- Local monsoon season is June - Sept; best avoided for flash flooding

We didn't really know where to start when we arrived, and there wasn't much direction, so we ended up just climbing the first rock formation we saw. Honestly, if it weren't for a group of people ahead of us, we probably wouldn't have had any idea where to go. I was hoping to make it to the arch, but the climb felt a little too steep and slippery, especially with kids. We were carrying our three-year-old and keeping a close eye on our six-year-old, who was feeling a bit more adventurous than we were comfortable with in that terrain. We didn't make it very far in and mostly just stopped to take a quick photo so we could say we visited. It was also pretty hot, with the sun beating down the whole time, which made it harder to explore and enjoy the park fully. That said, the park itself is really nice, and you can tell there's a lot to see if you're prepared and know where you're going. I'd recommend going earlier in the day, bringing plenty of water, and maybe looking up a map or trail guide ahead of time, especially if you're visiting with young kids. Overall, it's a cool place, but we didn't get to experience it as much as we had hoped. Definitely worth another try with better planning!

Later, I encountered one of the previously mentioned shuttles with Utah license plate T32 1ZD driving aggressively. The driver came up behind me at a high rate of speed and began tailgating me. Unfortunately, the same shuttle continued following me toward Zion National Park. When it was safe to do so, I pulled over and allowed the shuttle to pass. The driver then accelerated away well above what I would consider a safe speed for the area and tailgated other vehicle. Speed limits exist for a reason, especially in and around a national park where there are winding roads, pedestrians, bicyclists, and wildlife. Driving 10+ mph over the speed limit and tailgating other vehicles creates an unnecessary safety risk for everyone on the road. I hope management addresses this behavior and reinforces safe driving practices with its drivers.

The petroglyphs site is on the rock side or right side, so stay on right side. It's about 3 miles round trip, expect one and half hour. It is fun to explore and search for petroglyphs since there is no signs or indications where these petroglyphs are located. The history of petroglyphs is not as old as I thought, it's about 800-1000 years old. Many petroglyphs are located on cliffs facing by the Santa Clara River. These petroglyphs include abstract and geometric patterns such as parallel lines, herringbone and patterns, as well as figurative patterns such as dancing people and goats. The petroglyphs have spiral patterns, which I think are in memory of their legend ancestor Spider Grandmother. And these dancing people may be worshiping the ancestor. But these rock paintings are still in their original state, there are no monitoring measures to protect the wind and rain, and there are no markings on the location of the rock paintings. You have to climb up and down to find them. We encountered other tourists who lost their way in finding rock paintings. Bathrooms, drinking fountains, and plenty of parking. Parking, little side rant. If you are parking on a Saturday when the area is busy, then it sucks finding a spot. The vehicles start parking at entrances/exits, then it turns into a one-way battle of who is turning around. In my opinion, parking should not be allowed in those narrow entrances/exits. Otherwise, it is FUN, FUN, FUN... and next door to rodeo grounds, too.
