Most of my family & I first came here 5 years ago to go on vacation in the East End of Long Island and found this spot through Yelp after searching for homemade ice cream (a must for any summer vacation!) Back then, it was a hot summer day and the lines were 15-20 minutes long that begin outside of the store then wind tightly around inside - a sight to behold. Fast forward after the pandemic began, the lines had to form & remain exclusively outdoors and the employees all wear masks & disposable gloves but that was the only change I saw, the customers keep on pouring in. Today turned cooler & began raining but apparently hasn't deter the fan base. Hubby & I enjoyed the ever-popular Peconic Swamp Thing flavor (a must-try for chocoholics who crave brownies & raspberry-infused chocolate syrup) while my parents had the cherry pistachio and butter pecan. While Dad who is a huge butter pecan foodie wasn't impressed with Snowflake's version of it, both he & mom devoured all of the cherry pistachio. Delicious Ice Cream! After asking dozens of people which Homemade Ice Cream Shoppe is best on LI, majority said Snowflake. Located in Riverhead, this shoppe is hard to miss with its vibrant paint job and large sign out front. Stop by after a trip to the Aquarium with the kids or after a day out east at the farm stands. Plenty of parking spots. There are no seats indoors but they have benches throughout the property and picnic tables behind the building. The Prices were definitely better than franchise chain ice cream shoppes on LI. I would much rather support local businesses that put out a nice product like Snowflake does. They actually make their ice cream which is a selling point for me plus the prices are cheaper. The Service was good for the most part but one the women behind the counter was a bit abrasive to customers which made me uncomfortable. The other workers were pleasant. There are quite a few flavors to choose from. They will let you have samples before picking your flavor. The flavors are incredible and the ice cream itself is so creamy. I had Maple Walnut and there were so many walnuts in my cup, it was awesome! My sister had Pistachio Cherry and the cup was filled with cherry! Next time I would like to try the cookie dough flavor which looked delicious. They also sell cakes, ice cream sandwiches and cups to go in the freezer section. Overall I would definitely come back & try new items. The flavors are great, prices are even better. I would like to see the service a little less abrasive ne. This place is a hidden gem. I was in the area for work and wanted a sweet treat. I actually ended up going twice because I couldn't decide between two flavors. The peanut butter crunch is amazing and unlike any type of ice cream I've had before. I certainly wish I took a picture of my cone before diving in! This is a solid ice cream shop with a crew of friendly staff. I've been coming here for years on and off, and I've mostly enjoyed my visits. Vanilla milk shakes are good...soft serve is always reliable, and everyone will find at least one flavor they like from the hard scoops. The scoops are generous, so unless you REALLY like ice cream, I think 1 scoop will suffice, because a 2 scooper will make you feel like you just ate a big meal.
