This is an old school ice-cream-only place in Mattituck - out on the North Fork of eastern Long Island. If you are in Riverhead or touring some of the vineyards on the North Fork, you should hit this place. We drove by on the way back from afternoon golf on a Friday. From the size of the crowd, I thought it was a Beatles Reunion Concert or something. The locals told us that it is REALLY GOOD, but evening waits can easily exceed an hour. Parking looked tough. We dropped by the next day around lunch time. No line, easy parking. The menu board has over 40 flavors, which include some intriguing ones such as honey cinnamon, honey lavender, blackberry ginger, avocado coconut. I did the cinnamon, the wife opted for the lavender. They were REALLY UNIQUE AND REALLY GOOD. My daughter has some food allergies, and we were impressed by the careful listing of potential allergens on the menu list. Next time I'm out on the east end of Long Island, I'll be going there again and getting some quarts to go. I just advise you to either go off-peak, or be prepared to hob-Nob with a lot of locals for a while in line. read more

Honestly will never stop raving about this place. I love how they have rotating flavors so it never gets boring. I come to Mattituck every summer so it's always a treat to come here for ice cream. I've been coming to Magic Fountain since I was a kid, and for good reason! They have delicious ice cream from a rotating menu of flavors that has so many interesting concoctions. On my most recent trip, they had Dubai Chocolate and Spicy Mango, both really fun and delicious in their own way. I ended up getting a scoop of the North Fork, and it was delicious. My friend got a vanilla milkshake and gave rave reviews as well. There's usually a line snaking out the door (the inside isn't very big), but they've got a good system for keeping things moving, so don't be dissuaded. If you're driving to/from the North Fork, make the drive even better with a stop here! read more

This is one of the best homemade ice cream shops on the Island, yes it's on the East End in Mattituck but so definitely worth the trip. They have over 50 flavors and priced right for your enjoyment. Great store where you wait in line until they call you in, there are benches outside where you can sit and a lot of people start talking to one another... the power of ice cream, highly recommend and they make ice cream cakes as well. read more

This place is THE BEST ice cream I have EVER had, and that's no understatement. This place has been part of the Mattituck community for many years and for good reason. They have well over 50 flavors, all which are homemade on site including weekly speciality flavors like cucumber, goat cheese or lavender. No matter that time you go, especially at night, this place always has a long line and is jammed pack. Despite the long line, the staff is unbelievably quick with getting orders out. They're also extremely friendly. It's a casual place to go after the beach, date night or if it's hot and you want a snack. This place needs to be on everyone's list. I love Magic Fountain!! I've been here several times but for whatever reason, I never reviewed. I love their creative flavors and creamy delicious ice cream. Their scoops are generous and everything is super fresh. Homemade and scrumptious. The service was great and the prices were reasonable for the amount of ice cream that you got. We just got back from Boston and had some proper homemade ice cream as well but it was so pricey. I think it was also in tony Cambridge and Magic Fountain is much more basic, but in the best possible way. I had the pralines and cream and rainbow cookie flavors. Both were excellent. The Pralines & Cream were a proper PNC but not too sweet. I loved the Rainbow Cookie which I've had elsewhere. The base had a nice almond flavor to it and I was surprised that it was pink. But pink is my favorite color so...bo complaints from me. The other rainbow cookie icecream I've had was a vanilla base with big chunks of rainbow cookie, which had the signature almond flavor. I liked both but I'd give the other place a slight edge because I prefer big chunks of anything in my ice cream. :-) I can't wait to go back to Magic Fountain again. On the way home from picking up a Christmas Tree, we drove past Magic Fountain, a mom and pop ice cream shop out in Long Island. Ice Cream in the middle of winter? Why not? The inside looks similar to most other small ice cream shops. Unfortunately due to COVID, they do not give out samples. The kids each got a small cup, but I opted for the sampler, which is 12 small scoops served like mini cupcakes! The black cherry pistachio was my favorite...my least favorite was the purple one...not sure what flavor it's supposed to be, but it smelled and tasted like scented soap! This is a really cool old school ice cream joint that's been on the north fork forever. They always have new unique flavors like the honey lavender! I'm not a fan of lavender anything, but this is so good and reminds me of early fall! Their milkshakes are so good and if you come in the warmer months expect a line. It's part of the experience! This place definitely lives up to the magic in the title of the business. I found myself randomly in Mattituck one day and overheard talk of Magic Fountain. I was skeptical about how good it could be because it felt like I was in the middle of nowhere but if you find yourself in the middle of nowhere too MAKE THE TRIP TO MAGIC FOUNTAIN. Their set up is a little weird where you wait outside until they call you in via their loudspeaker but it's actually kind of genius because it limits overcrowding inside. Once you're in, the staff is super friendly and willing to answer any questions and provide samples. On to the ice cream. We had a hard time choosing because there were so many flavors but I went with my old standby of butter pecan in a waffle cone. It was the creamiest ice cream I have ever had in my life. The texture was unlike anything I have had...velvety is the best way I can describe it and dare I say...magical. It was probably the best ice cream I've ever sampled. A bunch of stuff was vanilla ice cream with cookie dough, Twix, m&ms and I believe fudge. It was good, but a little too sweet for me. Cake mix was vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles and something else...but I can't figure it out. (Lol!) I went with this one because it wasn't as sweet as the other two that I sampled. It was delicious. The girl behind the counter was super sweet and knowledgeable about the ice cream. She answered all the questions that I had. The servings are pretty generous. They said a small is one scoop. It was more of a scoop and a half, and it was just enough! A kiddie is half the size of the small. I wish this place was closer to my house! The chocolate raspberry truffle was one of the best ice creams i've ever had, and the same could be said for the chocolate peanut butter chunk. If you love rainbow cookies, you have to get the rainbow cookie ice cream! I bet you'll be back for more! You can order from a window outside the building, or they'll call you inside the building to order. The large array of flavors are listed on a sign outside, in addition to the many toppings.
