The bagel was delicious and fully stuffed with cream cheese or whatever else you order in it! There Matcha was good, the coffee was good. Everything was amazing about this place. Plus, there's so much seating available and we are able to add our own sugar/milks. TLDR, great coffee or Matcha spot and great bagel spot

Uncommon Grounds had all the makings of a fine sit n' sip: high ceilings, superfluous interior arches, mildly darkened aesthetic, tin ceiling tiles, and an abundance of screamin' local artistry dressing up the joint. Brothers and sisters... I was stoked about the possibility of churning out some real Aldi-grade literature at one of the chunky timber perches. I was ready for a slammin cup of joe and a sick-ish vibe. Alas, all I got from behind the counter was a jersey stuffed with caustic disdain and affected arrogance. It was impressive in that the tone, delivery, volume and words were all brilliantly matched in conveying unmistakable I-wish-you'd-get-the-flip-outta-my-space-clappery. I know the exact phrasing and such would go a long way here, but the whole dang affected setup I received from the other side of the counter would be hella exhausting to recount. And not worth my time. To be clear, my time really ain't worth all that much. Now I could go on to tell you about the rest of the experience, the quality of the bagels and the consistency of the schmear, and the tones you'll find playing throughout the house-roasted brews. But as a journeyman writer in the café world, I'm not gonna waste any more descriptors on the brat-infused tea steeping at the front of house. Why? Simply because cafés are more than the drink and grub. Cafés are as solid an offering of what culture Earth has to offer across its varied continents, countries, and street corners. They are something to engage with and experience directly. Like riding a scooter across Vietnam. Like a Moroccan food market. Like wiping volcanic ash off your hiking boots after a day's hike in Cinder Cone. If the human engagement of the place is reprehensible, then in IMHO the treats and steeps don't matter. Disappointments happen. That's for sure. But I'm only gonna spend two more sentences telling you what you probably already gathered about this place. It's slippin' baby. It's slippin'.

Five of us from the German-American Club of Albany NY had dinner here on Thursday July 30, 2026…read more Highly recommended by one of our party who had been here previously with other members of the GACA. Opened by Christian Rath in September 2023, it features dishes learned from his long career in food service. Spargel is the German word for Asparagus. This is a comprehensive tour of authentic German cusines from many regions of Germany. Just explore the menu options on the website. We started with a variety of Paulaner draft beers at the bar with the knowledgeable, Beau. Our server at our table was Kelly L. She was very helpful explaining the different dishes and provided excellent service. We started with two of their famous suppe (soup) - Spargelcremesuppe - gream of asparagus w/ garlic croutons ($8.50) and the most popular seasonal Cream of Yellow Chatrelle Mushroom Suppe w/ bacon & onion ($15.50). Unique to us and delicious. Dinners were trio of wild game sausages-wild boar, rabbit, & elk served w/homefries, red cabbage, & ligonberry sause ($34.50), Schweinelende-pan-seared pork tenderloins w/yellow chantrelle sauce, potato croquettes, and bacon wrapped green beans ($36.50), Gebratene Schweine Haxe-pork shank slow roasted with dunckel (dark) beer sauce w/ potato dumplings & sauerkraut ($35). The last dinner was the Bavarian Sampler Tour of German Cusine for Two - 12 items on this platter ($80). Our party of five could have shared this dish. It was Wunderbar! Spargel serves authentic & unique dinners along with the familiar such as Rouladen, Schnitzels, & Goulash. Desserts were creme brulee Grand Manier ($12.50) & apple strudel w/ warm vanilla sauce ($9.50). Their online menu is a must see before a visit. Outstanding meals & excellent service. Danke to Kelly L., Beau, Christian, and chefs. Open: Wednesday - Sunday: 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm Nick & Liz, Judy, Shannon & Todd GACA Albany, NY USA

There was no wait getting into the restaurant and the waiter was extremely sweet! I was hoping that…read morethe interior would be a slightly more decorated in German Style ambience, but it was more nonspecific. The food was very interesting since I had never eaten some of the German type foods they had available and some of it was delightful, but some of it was not memorable. I definitely would be willing to try this place again though so I'm not inclined to say that it isn't worth a try. The jury is still out!
