I found SoBa on Yelp looking for a good dinner spot near the downtown area. I had to broaden my search a little more but it was worth it. I have such a love/hate relationship with SoBa. Love- the pho is addictive and amazing. Hate- the take-out situation. I've had the wrong order given to me more than once, I've had multiple 1+ hour waits when I've been told it would be 15mins (for one soup!), and more often that not, I can't get someone on the phone. This has been an ongoing issue since prior to the pandemic days. I'd say 1/5 times I'll have a satisfactory take-out experience here. I am from the San Gabriel Valley, the first suburban Chinatown in California! Of course, this is where Asian restaurants are overly abundant and competition is stiff. So when a local suggested this place, I was not expecting much. I got the Bun Chay or vegan vermicelli bowl. It came with thin white noodles, sautéd veggies, large tofu cubes (not fried, yes!), lettuce, all mixed in a coconut hoisin sauce. I had to ask for extra sauce, it was a bit dry at first. It turned out to be pretty tasty once I added more sauce. Even though this place met my expectations, I would say this is not a bad option if you are craving Asian food in Atlanta! My co-workers seemed to enjoy their pho. The restaurant is the hip place to be. The menu changes after 10pm and turns into a lounge. We got to witness someone doing the Pho King challenge. You have to finish the bowl within 1 hour. If you win, you get to keep the bowl. You also get a t-shirt and a monetary prize ($300 I heard!). This restaurant is horrible. I do not know how they are still in business. The service is the slowest I've ever experienced in Atlanta, but my most recent mishap is that they now offer delivery. I ordered and 50 minutes after I ordered I got an email saying it was cancelled because the "restaurant couldn't provide the order". What a load of BS. I would highly advise getting your Vietnamese fix elsewhere. I have probably been here 10 times and have had a major issue at least 8 of them. Love this place! Has a great vibe and yummy food. My go to is the grilled chicken vermicelli and my friend always gets the pho. Good prices and plenty of food. I always leave already excited to come back. The atmosphere is great. Would definitely recommend as a great date spot. Doesn't get five stars because the service is usually not very good, but I'm never in a rush so it doesn't usually bother me. I would definitely do take out from here. 1st time I'm here and if you know East Atlanta unlike downtown Atlanta is free parking, but that's the kicker you have to find a spot lol. I sat somewhat in the middle of the restaurant and came in the door with the taste for "Pho" and you could smell it in the air of the area I sat in. I ordered the veggie spring rolls and medium bowl of "Chicken Pho" with all the additional trimmings. The spring rolls has a peanut sauce with it that is so tasty. The Pho was everything I thought it should be so I ate the Pho and drank the broth. Lol Very inexpensive to say the least spent maybe 17 dollars and was full and satisfied. Really good Pho here. I remember this joint has been a couple different restaurants and had forgotten about it and glad to check it out. Nice bar in the back area. It's in an old house on a side street. Had a ginger beer and Rye and it was good and strong. The spring roll with the cooked pork should be checked out. Nice atmosphere. As a Vietnamese living intown, it is challenge to find good pho at a reasonable price without having to hike up BuHi. Especially, when I know how to make Pho myself. My friend and I found this gem So Ba YEARS ago around 2009 ish I believe. I've been here for dinner at least once or twice a month for years. I've also stopped by late night when octopus bar opens. Now my wife and I have this place in our weekly routine. If you look at my profile, I rarely leave reviews but recently I've notice a few pho restaurants pop up around town. (Another in East atl, one in Krog Mkt, one on the westside, and one in midtown). They all of which disappointed me in terms of flavor and price point. The ambiance of the others are definitely more professional and upscale but the flavor and price point doesn't compare to what So Ba offers. The broth is totally underrated. You can taste the infused Star Anise, onion, and cinnamon. The pho bowl always comes out very hot. I honestly believe it gets overlooked b/c it's not located along BuHi area. My second favorite is their salt and pepper tofu. I have not found another restaurant intown to prepare this dish as well as So Ba. The tofu is gently fried crispy on the outside and left soft and steaming hot in the inside. It's sauteed with jalapeno, onions, and hot chili peppers. It definitely reminds me of Szechuan style cooking. The rice dishes has improved through the years and they now offer it with fried rice which is a plus for me. Keep up the good work! You guys have helped satisfy my late night Pho cravings for years. I'm so glad I don't have to plan road trip out of town when my craving arises. read more

I've had a lot of Buford Hwy pho and I can confidently say that I love this place just as much as any other pho restaurants we've frequented over the years. It's a more expensive than Buford Hwy, but I the quality of the meat tastes better and the broth is more flavorful. It can take longer than you'd think to get your food, which is odd if you're accustomed to the 2 minute turn around of the traditional pho restaurant, but I think it's worth every second. read more

I was disappointed when I found out they did not have vegan broth for the vegetable and tofu pho, BUT they did have other vegan options that were pretty good like the vegetable spring rolls! It takes a while to get your food, wait time on this previous Sunday was about 30-35 Minutes for the ; everything is soooo fresh though so it's worth it. Small, cozy setting. I prefer the seating with the fireplace and paintings on the wall. What could use some help in my opinion is the staff.
