We love Colonial Kitchen. Everything is delicious and beautifully presented. A lovely restaurant with a calm vibe, this pretty space is relaxing and so enjoyable. We haven't ventured onto the patio yet but plan to do so soon, now the weather is cooler. My personal favorite are the drunken noodles. Portions are large, easily enough to share. Full of your choice of protein ( I like the ground chicken) and fresh, crunchy veggies, this dish always pleases. My husband loves their rice dishes, like basil beef and ginger chicken, and we both love their dumplings. Service is professional and understated. Everything is always prepared with the freshest ingredients. I haven't been able to tear myself away from noodles yet, but when I do, I'm going to try one of their highly recommended curry dishes. I love spicy foods and Colonial is happy to oblige. I can handle a lot of heat but their Thai spicy is one level too high for me, so I opt for extra spicy. I came for an early dinner on a Friday. The place is easy to find next to Target and has lots of free parking beside and behind the building. There is a lovely outdoor patio and an indoor bar area in addition to the main dining room of ten or twelve tables. I was seated immediately at an indoor table. On this occasion I did not try any cocktails, but went directly to the entree. I had the Rama Chicken which turned out to be delicious. A breaded, crispy chicken breast sliced on top of cooked vegetables (zucchini, carrot, cabbage, broccoli) with a thick peanut sauce. A bowl of steamed white rice came on the side. I ate every scrap of food on the dish and was too full for dessert, although I would have loved to try their mango sticky rice or one of the homemade cakes. Next time! What a beautiful and elegant restaurant with a friendly and welcoming staff. Me and my girlfriend went here to grab some food rather late on Monday, (Indigenous People Day) and it was kind of slow likely due to the holiday. They were willing to accommodate us, but we just didn't want to sit outside. So we decided to take our food to go. Noy, the lady who was working the front and welcoming guest was so nice and grateful for our business. We ordered and looked over the lunch menu and how affordable everything was. Literally some of the best I've ever had. Flaky, light, with a textured filling. I could probably eat a dozen of those if I wasn't careful. I ordered basil spring rolls , agedashi tofu, vietnamese pho, and a French Gin and Tonic. The drink wasn't bad, but they added fruit that seemed to be mostly for decoration. I didn't pick up much fruit flavor which was a shame. The spring rolls were good, but I'm a sucker for fresh spring rolls. The Agedashi Tofu was not very good. It says crispy, but there was virtually no crunch on them. This is the second time I've tried it (Also at Shoya Izakaya), so I'm inclined to think I just don't like this, rather than Colonial does a poor one. The Pho was good. Non descript, but good. It is meatball and brisket pho by default, so if you're a bit put off by mystery meatballs, this is not as good. I sat at the bar, and I think this was the crux of my complaints. There was one server who was quite attentive to make sure I ordered, but once my Pho came out, it was total silence. Like, there was no one at the bar at all. I don't expect concierge service, but I genuinely could have gone behind the bar and made my own drinks and no one would have noticed. I also wound up finding something that I think was a shard of plastic in my pho. It wasn't particularly conclusive so I didn't bring it up to the staff. We came here on a Friday night to celebrate my friend's birthday. Good thing they are located I. The shopping center and have plenty of parking. As you walk in you are greeted by the beautiful patio. I wish it wasn't so hot that we could sit on the patio. Inside is cute too and we got seated right away. We started with both got lychee martini and they were on a strong side. I couldn't even finish mine, now mind I'm a super light drinker. We got calamari for our starter and they were nice and crispy. I got drunken noodles and it was delicious. This place is usually 5 stars but today was a different story. I feel the quality has gone down. The food is typically incredible and service is great usually but not sure what's happening. I came in and it wasn't busy at all, waited for a while to get seated, waited to get served, waited a while to even close out. I closed out early because the customer service was not good. Waiting, waiting, waiting to get served. Everything and everyone else seemed more important. Two people in the dining room but not much service. I believe I was the only person there at one point and not much attentiveness or level of care. The guy who's usually there has seen me there and I've dined there several times but acts like he's never seen me before. I believe her name is Arisa and she always remembers me and is so hospitable and lending and answering my questions and helping me with recommendations on what to order. Arisa wasn't in the dining room at the time but it shouldn't be incredible customer service from 1 person at the restaurant. I ordered the roti which was very small and then the curry it came with was cold and lukewarm at the same time. It clearly means they microwaved it and I told the lady there and she said she'll warm it up which basically means microwave. It's a restaurant, a very nice sit down restaurant at that. Why are you microwaving my food? That along with the poor customer service instantly turned me off. So, I closed out. Not to mention, there was no one at the bar. I was waiting and waiting and had to call the guy down to help me. Ridiculous! They were running around doing stuff but it was basically empty. It wasn't busy nor was it full and I felt neglected. It's a shame because the food, vibes, and customer service are usually incredible. It's also some of the best Thai food I've had and that's coming from trying incredible Thai food in California. The restaurant is very quant with a very cute outdoor patio option. Though it looked like a very busy evening the waitress / host were very kind and attentive. Amazing food! Every single thing we had was delicious, from the appetizer to the mains to the desserts. I loved my pad see ew, the flavor was sweet and savory and complex all at the same time. My drink was also refreshing and VERY strong--one was definitely enough. I loved the artwork and live plants inside the restaurant, and on another occasion I would definitely return to sit on the beautiful patio. I also tried the Tom Yum Shrimp which is very flavorful. The broth is very good. and not overly spicy. For the entree I had the Colonial Viet Bun. It seems more like a deconstructed fish with the salad, vermicelli and a slab of pork chop and 2 shrimps. The sauce is a peanut sauce that needs to be poured. The pork is well made and I enjoyed the charred texture. I also had the mango sticky rice which is good. I like the sesame seed that they added. The rice is a perfect consistency and the coconut sauce isn't too thick or sweet. I also had the lychee martini which is good but a bit strong. I didn't mind it. Overall a good restaurant. We were pretty happy with the ambiance and the food, but it was overpriced and, on the whole, lacking the depth/complexity of flavors I've come to expect from these dishes at other places. This review is for my first indoor dining in Atlanta post psycho virus in July. 285 CK has been bookmarked for over a year so I was looking forward to this visit. = Ambiance is a pleasant neighborhood resto with a decent size patio at Prado, an ITP Sandy Springs shopping center. We went at little after 5pm when they opened to minimize our Covid risk. Due to the rain earlier in the day, we couldn't sit outside with wet cushions. We were seated immediately to our preference and only one other table was occupied. Their staff wore masks and the menu is by QR code. One oversight is that their tables / seating are NOT 6 feet a part and they allow customers to sit anywhere! This later caused some consternation as a couple not wearing masks sat right next to us while there were 8 other tables further away from us! = Foodwise, 285 CK offers Vietnamese fusion. We had come here for pho without trekking to BuHi. I opted for their brisket and filet medium bowl and my friend opted for their brisket medium bowl. As customary, they provide a separate plate of fresh accoutrements of veggies. In addition, they provide individual sriracha and hoisen sauces for each person. Their broth was phenomenally rich and smooth! Other than one odd thing, their choppy noodles ....like only 2-3 inches... all broken, their pho was delicious! We left satisfied and planned to revisit. Unfortunately, I experienced telltale of MSG... cotton mouth and extreme thirst for several hours after pho. My friend too had the same symptoms and a mild headache as well. Deduction is that they used excessive MSG! + Service was friendly and prompt. The waiter checked in on us soon after the food presentation. = Price is slightly higher given their location and service. ++ Parking is free and shared with other shops. In time, in post Covid safe world, 285 CK may be worth a revisit and they may even be well suited for business meals as they were smart enough to use black cloth napkins. But for now, I have no desire to experience water logging and feeling unsafe in a city where 2 out of 3 people are unvaccinated.
