    Crab Rangoon eggroll
    Britany J.

My first time in Detroit, and I looked up restaurant recommendations on TikTok and found So Cheesy. The closest location to me was the one located in Dearborn. On TikTok everyone was raving about the crab rangoon eggrolls and they were not wrong. You get three with one order and a side of sweet chili sauce. The eggrolls are a nice side. They are served hot and fresh. If you love crab Rangoon then you will love these eggrolls.

3.5 stars is more accurate. There was hardly anyone there when we stopped by, we sat outside in a sort of patio area, next to the food truck where the food was prepared after we ordered inside. It was pricey, but decent, not up to the hype which had brought me there. I ordered the Philli-Mignon sandwich, it was decent, but I wish I could taste the horseradish beet mayo or the cilantro lime aioli. It could have had a bit more meat on it for $17. The garlic parm fries were good, I think they were $4 to add to the sandwich. I tasted my sister's crab Rangoon eggs rolls (the flavor was ok, not as creamy as what I would expect. They were large in size, though). The shrimp Po Boi was decent. Nothing blew my socks off, if the sauces weren't so bland on the Philli-mignon, I think it could've been a great sandwich, it's also very messy.

Food was very good as we caught this gem from a review done by mrchimetime on Instagram. On a trip to Detroit with my nephew, we were on the hunt for a good sit down restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed it was clean and well lit. We could see the menu on the wall as well as printed menus were available. The staff gave a friendly greeting and took us through the menu items avaliable, as well as stirring to the more "popular" choices. My nephew landed towards the truffle burger.... just that word truffle makes me want to run.... but to his delight it was satisfying. Truffles can mess up a dish of too much is added. My choice of burger was the "oh my cheezus" or the hot one as I renamed it. Jalapeños were added to this burger. We also got a side of grilled onions and mushrooms together, it was OK but I didn't need it. I love grilled onions by itself, so I tried to get them to do them that way but they couldn't or wouldn't as it is pre-made. The crab rangoon egg rolls had wonderful flavor without the sauce. I wanted a Lil more in my roll but it was a good amount. The sauce added to the overall taste of the roll. We didn't need to get the fries as they were bagged and taken back to Chicago. After this meal we needed a nap. Let's not forget the drink, we ordered a bloody lemonade.

The chicken was so fresh, it still had the feathers attached.. literally. This is absolutely revolting.

    Smash Burger is a must!!

Awesome food, great portions and always clean!! They just opened a dinning room, so you can stay out of the cold and enjoy your meal and a great ambiance. Kick back with some freshly baked cookies and a milkshake, after a game on the arcade.

Hot cheesus with garlic parm fries

The food was amazing! I got the hot cheesus and smoked wings, my wife who doesn't usually eat burgers loved it! Very nice service will definitely be back

Service and food. That's it. This spot excels at both and I've returned time and time again with no dip in quality to either.

Side Chic's blows them out of the water along with every other spot in Detroit/Dearborn (Savvy Sliders, Checkers, KFC, Chic Fil A, Chick N Kingz etc.) The breading on the tenders is very, very flavorful. They also put the perfect amount of breading on each tender. I absolutely hate overbreaded tenders where it feels like you're chewing through multiple layers till you hit chicken. Side Chic's avoids this completely by having a nice layer of breading that adds flavor and doesn't distract from the chicken. The chicken itself is hot, juicy and well textured. This is not rubbery, dry chicken. The only other way I can describe it is it just tastes fresh. I was thoroughly impressed. Side Chic's is a carry out spot that's open very, very late (which is awesome). Everyone who works there is incredibly pleasant and helpful. Also, even though the chicken is fresh and made to order, your food comes out in a fairly quick manner. I really can't say enough good things about Side Chic's. Best Chicken Tenders I've had in the Detroit/Dearborn area!

I came recently and the fries, fried pickles, and sauces were all great! The chicken was still okay, but not seasoned the same way as before. Still moist and tender tho. There's was oil all over the boxes though and staining like a seventh (or 14-18%) of the paper bag. That's a lot. The box was dripping oil. Tasted great other than comparing the chicken to the first time. i'm confused about the lack of reviews. I'm thinking I have the wrong page...

The Fajita Sub was loaded with chicken, cheese, and toppings and was solid. The crispy bread had a satisfying crunch and the flavors were bold and tasty. The chicken tenders, albeit frozen, were actually very well fried and seasoned. They even gave us extra tenders in our order for free as well as a free water! On top of that, for no extra charge the order came with many different tasty sauces to choose from. Zaghloul is affordable and tasty with people who put the customer first!

Unfortunately the location in…read moreDearborn Heights just isn't somewhere I go very often so it's been stuck on my list for the longest time. They opened a second branch in East Dearborn recently which finally allowed me to give the subs a try. The restaurant itself is quite small and is mostly a takeout destination. There are only 14 seats in the small dining room, a small fridge stocked with drinks, and the order counter, from which you can see the kitchen. I went in on a very empty weekday lunch and got one item, which took about 10 minutes to come out: Lebanese Sub, Half ($8.99) - They toast this sub well, resulting in a very nice crunch on the exterior. Just be careful eating it - you can pretty easily lacerate your gums if you're not careful! The interior is moist for the most part, with a bit of a mild garlic and mayo mixture that covers all the ingredients. There's a double layer of grilled chicken breast that forms a base layer, followed by some fries that are crunchy on the exterior and fluffy on the interior, and finally a layer of crunchy and acidic pickles. The chicken is the weakest part of the dish - some pieces are overcooked, dry, and tough. It's most noticeable in the thickest areas where there's not enough mayo/garlic to add moisture to the sandwich. Still, overall I found the sub to be good and the ingredients all complemented each other well. Note: The little red tray that they served the sub in smelled heavily of bleach and my first couple of bites had a slight whiff of bleach thanks to that. If you eat here, I would recommend removing the food from the tray before eating. Zaghloul Subs is definitely worth a try.

Everything is cooked and baked by the chefs-in-training so you can expect little blemishes here and there, but where else can you get Duck Confit for $14 or Surf and Turf for $17 nowadays? I was always interested in going ever since I learned about the restaurant, but their very limited hours (they are only open during the school year for lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and for dinner on Wednesday) prevented me from giving them a try. That changed last Wednesday. We had a reservation for the special Shrimp and Soul Seafood Buffet ($21.95 per person). Parking was a bit of a pain - I guess this place is mostly attended by faculty and other students because we had to call and wait for security to raise the gate to the parking lot. As we walked into the building, we noticed that the restaurant is basically situated to the side of the student commons/cafeteria area. We walked up and found a giant line of people waiting to check in; this was right when they opened at 6PM. This took a while, but after we managed to make it inside, we were directed to the overflow seating outside of the restaurant - it wasn't exactly the classiest of seats; basically just temporary circular fold tables and plastic chairs, with a cheap plastic cover on top of the table. The interior furniture was much better but I guess for these more popular events they have too many people come in. We waited a while for the waitress to get to us as there seemed to be only one or two for the entire restaurant and then finally could go inside to grab food. There were two main lines for food, one to the right with salad and appetizers, and one to the left with the mains. Starting with the right side, which was mostly self service, we had: Spring Mix Salad - Pretty standard green mix with a wide variety of toppings to choose from, including shredded cheese, olives, broccoli, onions, chickpeas, carrots, cherry tomatoes, and a couple of different dressings. Cocktail Shrimp - These were boiled and piled into an attractive ice sculpture, with the shrimp spilling out from the bottom. They were cooked perfectly with the shrimp being served unshelled. They were a bit tricky to peel, but they were deveined well. This came with cocktail sauce and lemon on the side. Macaroni Salad, Cole Slaw, and Potato Salad - All mixed and seasoned well. Soup - The menu listed shellfish clam chowder but instead they had a nice corn chowder with imitation crab. On the left side, where there were students standing behind every dish to serve the food: Cornbread Muffins and Dinner Rolls - The cornbread were very sweet with good cornmeal taste. The rolls were pretty normal in taste and texture, but they looked nicely baked with cornmeal sprinkled on top. Braised Collard Greens - The greens were chopped and stewed until tender with no stringy bits. There was a bit of smokiness and pieces of pork mixed in. Sweet Potato Casserole - This had a nice cinnamony taste with a browned crust on top. Pork Tenderloin - This was thinly sliced and dressed with a peach bbq sauce. It was good to try but kind of dry and tough. Fried Cod - This was beer battered cod with a bit of bitterness. The fish inside was tender and moist. Chicken Breast - Very dry, my least favorite food of the night by far. The last two items were rice pilaf and green beans. In addition, there was a mac & cheese station with mix-ins, including diced tomato, caramelized onion, homemade bacon, broccoli, and imitation crab. The student scoops some precooked, oiled elbow macaroni into a pan, adds the toppings, ladles a cheese roux on top and heats everything up in a skillet. We were told that the bacon is made on site. It's thick cut into cubes so you have sizable chunks of delicious smoky bacon. We found the best part of the meal to be the dessert, served on a table right outside the restaurant (and conveniently located across the entrance from our table). These consisted of a decadent heart shaped white chocolate mousse with raspberry filling, a chocolate mousse with caramel filling, small pecan pie slices, Mississippi mud pie bars, cups of banana pudding, red velvet cupcakes, peach cobbler (served hot), and cheesecake. Everything on this table was delicious and we definitely overindulged. Overall, the food was a bit hit and miss, with the meats being the worst and the desserts being the best. Since this was a buffet rather than their normal service, there were probably some additional consistency issues. Still I think this was a good experience and it made me want to visit again for their standard menu but perhaps not for another buffet.
