I was hoping to scope out a nice yarn place while visiting Seattle and this place does NOT disappoint! As soon as I entered, I was pretty much overwhelmed with their expansive yarn selection. I really like how the yarn was organized from lace to super bulky throughout their entire store so it made searching around easier. The owner was also super helpful and friendly as I was going through all the yarn brands and types. Aside from yarn, they have crocheting and knitting tools, cute accessories, a lovely selection of buttons, and a corner of the store was dedicated to bookshelves of patterns. After paying, I really appreciated the owner offering to wind my hanks for me before I left (I don't have my own swift and winder so it would've taken a lot longer by hand). They also have noteworthy customer service. I accidentally forgot a page of a pattern I bought and the owner was nice enough to mail me the page and I was just hoping to get it e-mailed. I've come by So Much Yarn a few times for projects since I live not too far away. The women who work there are very friendly, and make sure to check in on whether or not you need help finding anything. I was looking for a good yarn for making coasters, and the woman I spoke with was very helpful in finding the sturdy yarn I was looking for. The yarn is a little more expensive than I'm used to paying, but the convenience and pleasant environment is enough to keep me coming back. Also, So Much Yarn also gives locals a punch card to keep track of how much money you've spent there, and they give you a discount on your next purchase once you've filled it up! If you come by here and are as much of a yarn addict as I am, I highly suggest getting one since it's not terribly difficult to fill up. read more

Wow!!! I am in love with this place. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. They have a great selection of yarn and pretty great prices. Great view of the water. While visiting Seattle a couple years ago, I discovered this yarn shop to have more of the colorful inspiration, good samples, and assortment that I like than what I have discovered in my home town of Denver. They have a terrific computer system for good customer service, are super helpful and go "the extra mile" to give personal attention. I was able to buy yarn again by phone during the shut down, due to their good record keeping. They are worth whatever effort is required to shop with them, and definitely on my visit list next time I am in the Seattle area, and for online shopping too. One of the best yarn stores I've been to in a long time! 1. Wonderfully helpful and personable employees. Sometimes you go to a store and run into employees with knowledge but no real capacity to teach or love of strangers. Not here! These people are nice AND helpful. 2. Selection is good but not overwhelming. They manage to have a large selectikn in a small space. 3. Some cheap pattern books are available due to shipping damage. Some won't appeal, but some are beautiful. 4. Great location! Yes it's close to Pike's place, but specifically, it's next to eateries, bars, and dessert places and its location in tge building gives these lovely knitters the best sunset view over the harbor I saw during my trip. Visit them around sunset and sit at their conveniently placed back table and enjoy the view as you knit! read more

I was just showing my sister around Pike Place and had to stop at this yarn shop because it's a yarn shop and I have to stop at all of them. It's in the rules. It is more spacious than your typical specialty yarn store, which is nice for such a busy area. I was greeted and helped by a friendly lady who asked what I was looking for. I told her I didn't even know what I wanted to make, I was just looking and couldn't decide what to get. She asked what my favorite thing to make is typically, and I said I like crocheting doilies best. She got excited and showed me some lace yarn that was half off. It had a silk-like sheen and looked quite fancy. I bought some because I loved its shine and it was on sale. I don't always get this kind of personal service even in the tiniest stores. It was a very busy day (Saturday in the summer at Pike Place!) but I felt taken care of and I got a lovely skein of yarn (which they balled up for me) and that great sale-price lace yarn. I really liked my experience here. It's probably the biggest yarn shop I've ever been in, and the spaciousness really allows them to back up their name - they probably also have the biggest selection housed under one roof that I've ever seen. I wasn't approached by any employees while I was there, but it wasn't a problem for me, as I was just browsing and they were really busy. I'm also not sure what another reviewer meant when they said there wasn't anything specifically "Seattle" or handspun that they could buy at this shop...they had a sizable stock of Hazel Knits in a couple different bases, which is definitely a (great) local company. read more

I don't know what it is with yarn shops being so snooty and cold. I really don't get it. So many I've been in treat you like you with much disdain. This is true here too. We would have walked out without the yarn, but we really needed it for a project and would not have been able to get to another store in time. They do have beautiful items, but they are definately expensive. read more

I came upon this store for the first time yesterday. It is a gem of a yarn store here in Seattle. If you are local and thinking about going, but decide not to because you don't feel like dealing with that part of town, it is worth it. This store has an amazing selection. They have all kinds of yarns and one of the bigger selections in Seattle. I wish I had known about this place when I lived here because it would have become "my" yarn store. Wow when they called their store "So Much Yarn" they actually weren't kidding. There is a ton of Yarn here. I was very impressed with their selection. Better than what I have seen in Vancouver, especially in the color range. I bought a few rolls the last time I was in Seattle for my neighbor to make a scarf for me out of. Love this shop! To me, it is the quintessential yarn shop with all the notions you might need and a well-rounded selection of yarns for any kind of project. The staff is welcoming and helpful (but without hovering, which is nice!). As a visitor to Seattle, I loved seeing local and exclusive yarns (bought two local yarns and one from an independent dyer in a colorway exclusive to So Much Yarn). There are lots of store samples about, including one for a local yarn I bought. It's nice to go back home with a project ready to knit. I will definitely be back next time I am in Seattle. read more

I went in for the first time today, during my lunch break and though I have found that most yarn stores in Seattle are less than warm and helpful, but this is NOT one of them! Both women were very kind and helpful, to me and everyone who walked in. There were a couple women who were new to knitting and had lots of questions about yarns and tools. They got really great advice from the staff. The store has a fabulous selection of beautiful, great quality yarns, priced about what all LYS would. They don't carry the cheap acrylic crafty stuff, but I don't know why anyone would want to spend hours and hours, creating each and every individual stitch of a beautiful pattern, using a cheap synthetic yarn. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for beautiful quality yarns, patterns and notions for any project. It is a wonderful addition to our public market! read more

While touristing through Pike Place Market, I stumbled upon a gem of a yarn shop, So Much Yarn. And they do have so much yarn.There is a wonderful selection of color and types of yarn, artistically arranged. It is a treat for the eye. And wonderful customer service. The ladies are friendly and knowledgeable. They offer classes some evenings and will assist with a project when you purchase yarn from them. I could have spent the whole day just going through the yarns, looking at the books, needles and accessories they offer. Alas, my traveling companion had other ideas. read more

I'm always looking out for cute specialty yarn shops so I was really excited to find this place! I had just finished eating a piroshky (must try!) and waiting for my friends to eat their pike place chowder (must try!) when I looked up and saw a neon sign with knitting needles that said So Much Yarn! I had to check it out! I went into the store and was greeted right away. I had a pleasant conversation with the sales lady and then she left me to browse around. I had fallen in love with this silk yarn that came in really vibrant colours. I would have bought it but i have way too many balls of yarn at home that I still have to use! I ended up leaving with Berroco yarn in flicker. When I went to pay they offered to wind my yarn and said I could look around and come back so I wouldn't have to wait around. I was very pleased with the service I received and the staff was helpful and pleasant. read more

I was having trouble finishing a hat I had promised to make a friend who is going through a difficult time--and the woman at this knitting store could not have been more kind to me. The store itself is gorgeous--fantastic selection of yarns and tools (including local and regional yarns) and a spectacular view of the water. Every Friday morning, they host a casual knitting group. Visit this store and then have lunch in the neighborhood--this is Pike's Market--lots to see and do, but this shop is not to be missed. read more

I walked in and loud bells on the door slightly embarrassed me as I entered, so I said, "I'm here", just to lighten what felt like an intrusion. A woman came toward me and said, "do you need something" as if I had entered a private space. I asked if I might be permitted to browse, and three women said yes in unison. Stopped by for the intermediate drop in class and I got SO MUCH HELP!! I had written down questions since I had a knitting hiatus and quandaries with yarns, gauge etc. The women were more than helpful and spent a huge amount of time with each of us. I've been here a few times and it's one of those places you can come in and escape the hustle and bustle of the market. The yarn selections are pretty good and you can find almost anything you need for a crochet or knitting project. The staff are pretty friendly and helpful. One lady even had a nice long chat with my father in law about one of the yarn brands made in NE (since he gets excited over anything made in NE where he's from). They will even wind your yarn for you for free. They have a punch card that gives you a pretty good discount once you have it filled up. The last time I was there I was showing my mom the yarns through Skype since I wanted to ship her a few for her projects and the ladies were patient enough to let me spend close to an hour letting my mom pick the colors she wants over the phone. They even answered my questions about the difference between kinds of wools and such. They will also let you return/exchange if you buy too much yarn as long as it hasn't been wound or opened. They also do classes for crochet and knitting but I haven't been to one yet though I would recommend it to newbies since the ladies there obviously love their craft and are more than happy to share their skills. Definitely my go to place for yarn and supplies from now on. I can't wait for my mom to get here so I could bring her here and watch her be a like a kid in a candy store read more
