He has informal tastings almost every weekend where you can sample some wines while Dave leads a very informative discussion. You usually need to sign up in advance for the tastings. Don't go expecting some glitzy wine store with the snotty help walking around in striped aprons. It is a cluttered little warehouse the organization of which is only known to Dave. The bottles are not labeled with a price but Dave will know it, and it will usually be a bargain. Let him know your preferences and he will track something down you will like in your price range. Once he gets to know your tastes he will make recommendations whenever you visit. Get on his weekly email list to learn about upcoming tastings and features of the week. If you are a down to earth wine lover you owe it to yourself to visit Brightwines.

But the beer selection, which used to be among the best-curated and most unique in the area, is now not even worth the stop. The walk-in cooler for beer is a sad, sad state of affairs, especially if you know what the selection used to be like. Certainly, if wine is your thing, I'm sure there's something passable if you need a bottle to go with dinner or take to a party. But if you're looking for beer, move on to a different store. Hit Thomas Liquors or Ale Jail in St. Paul. Sadly, everything that made Sunfish a unique beer lovers' destination is no more. We are truly sad about it. This was one of our favorite hidden gems in the Twin Cities. As an aside, we also were not impressed by the service. When we walked in, a girl rushed up to us and asked if we needed help. I highly suspect she thought we were going to steal something. It did not make us feel welcomed. And then she straight-up lied to us. She told us that most of the beer from the old location had been brought over, which is absolutely not true. I am truly sad to say we will not be back.

Today was our 4th time to Lucky Guys Distillery. Today we were out on a drive and had our mini Goldendoodle with us, we weren't sure if Lucky Guy's was dog friendly, so I popped my head in to see if they were dog friendly and found out they are on their patio and main level. I ordered my usual espresso martini and my husband got the Lucky Guy's Old Fashioned, we are creatures of habit and when we find a cocktail we like, we tend to stick with it. However, when we decided to have another round, I asked Guy what he recommended and he suggested the Somerset Martini, it did not disappoint. Guy knows what he's doing! The ambiance is great, warm and welcoming and it's tastefully decorated, right down to the bathrooms. Guy has been there every time we've been there and you can tell that he cares about his customers and the cocktails he's making. All other staff we've encountered at Lucky Guys have always been friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Highly recommend Lucky Guy's.
