We went to So Zap for the first time this season... What an exceptional restaurant at extremely reasonable prices. The staff are all exceptional, they remembered our names and what we liked... Had not been there since November. The pad Thai is the best I've ever had, I have it either with the chicken or the shrimp and I was really thinking how remarkable it was. They have an extensive menu and full bar. In the summer it is one of the only places in the Ogunquit where you can sit outside and watch all the activity on Main Street. We came here when we stayed in Ogunquit. My son had the Pad Thai which he really enjoyed and devoured. I had the crispy duck in orange sauce. The sauce was very good and added a lot of flavor to meal. The vegetables that were served along with the meal were cooked just right. read more

Great food! Started off with crab rangoons, they were hot and delicious! Let them cool off for a minute if you get them. I made a mistake of digging right in lol. Then we had drunken noodles with chicken and crab fried rice. Everything was delicious and beware the drunken noodles are pretty spicy! Thai food in Maine? I was skeptical. But the pad Thai is life changing. Not sure how authentic it is but the flavors are delicious. The crunchiness from the peanuts and the sweetness of the sauce really take it to the next level. Thai tea is also good. Even better than some boba places back in LA. Service was interesting. Nice (and very attentive) girl but when we had questions about the menu she just kept saying everything was amazing or her favorite and she'd just read the ingredients off the menu. No real knowledge of the food itself. If you're in town for one day, this is a good option to try. read more

Got a chance to eat here again after years of having been to Ogunquit. I must say, as someone who is very familiar with Thai cuisine, I'm still very impressed with their attention to detail and execution with every dish. We ordered Papaya Salad, Green Curry, and Drunken Noodles and all were presented nicely, tasted delicious, and textures were perfect. The chewiness of noodles, thickness of curry, certain veggies perfectly crisp like capsicum pepper and green bean, also certain veggies perfectly soft like the eggplant and onion, the crunchiness of the papaya slivers, rice super fragrant and perfectly cooked. They hit all the marks with service, atmosphere, and food. My only issue is that all of the dishes were overly sweet and that's a problem for someone like me who actually loves sweet food. My friend also agreed that while very tasty, we couldn't ignore that they were all super sweet! Hope they can change that... I'm also left wishing for more portion-wise and those two reasons is why I'm taking out a star. Very good food! We had the fried chive dumplings, chicken satay, pad Thai and drunken noodles. The chicken satay was incredibly fresh and came with two sauces: peanut butter and a pickled sauce. This Labor Day weekend (2014) I have left a Yelp review for almost every place my wife and I have eaten. So Zap is the only place that is getting 5 stars! And trust me, after having been to Thailand I was a bit skeptical about having Thai food in Maine, but So Zap lived up to all the reviews! This is a small place with great balcony seating. The wait staff was quick and pleasant, I really couldn't ask for much more. The food was spectacular, my wife had the vegetarian drunken noodles and I had the green curry with shrimp and brown rice. The thing that surprised was the heat, we both are not afraid of a little spice, but to play it safe we ordered the food at a #2 and both dishes had a little bit of kick to them. It was just the amount we needed, but it was surprising that #2 would bring that much heat. All in all both meals were outstanding and tonight we belong to the clean plate club. read more

Now I know to withhold judgement, Maine can really surprise you. My wife and I were taking a long weekend and happened to walk past this very inviting outdoor seating area/deck and decided to drop in for dinner. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive...all smiles and very enthusiastic. Facilities were very clean and inviting on the inside as well. When I walked through the restaurant to use the restroom (immaculately clean by the way), I was pleasantly surprised by the decorating and lighting. I could definitely see myself having a great meal and quite a few drinks with friends in there. The food was fresh, cooked well, seasoned to the desired spicy levels, and delicious. Coming from Providence, RI (where the restaurants are second to none) and traveling often for business (with the pleasures of an expense account), my wife and I can tend to be pretty tough graders when it comes to food. This place is truly top notch, and if it was located in our hometown, it would be on the shortlist for Thai cravings. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the portions could have been about 20% bigger...although my wife and I do eat a lot in a sitting!! Of all of the meals I've eaten in Ogunquit this past week, the one I had here with my family was easily my favorite. We chose this restaurant because it had something for everyone- feeding 3 omnivores and a vegan in seafood loving Maine is no small feat. My family had shrimp pad Thai, shrimp fried rice, and the green trio. My sister devoured her pad Thai, and my parents, who weren't sure how they felt about Thai food before, were really surprised by how much they liked everything! I had the veggie pad see ew and loved it. My experience with Thai food has been limited to Pad thai, so I didn't really knew what I was getting myself into. I really loved the flavors and presentation of my meal- the vegetables were sliced in star shapes and the colors (broccoli, brown sauce, carrots, red peppers) were just lovely. Another thing we really appreciated about So Zap was the nice labeling on the menu- what's spicy, vegetarian, gluten free, etc. My family is pretty spicy-avoidant, and we were easily able to customize the intensity of our plates and choose something that worked for each of us. I've been going to Ogunquit one and off for the past eight years. The food scene there has never been what's drawn me. It's the rocky cliffs along the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful beach that calls me back. A few years ago, So Zap opened up, a small urban Thai kitchen as they call it. It's only open during the tourist season so if you want to try it you'll have to face the summer crowds. The service is better than most place in Ogunquit. Friendly, fast, and you're treated well. The food while always fresh, and well make has a few drawbacks that are worth mentioning. For those with sensitivity to spiciness, be careful and make sure you ask. They have a heat rating of 1 to 5. 1 being (what they consider) not spicy, to 5 being lip burning, tear producing heat. The problem is that some of the recipes start at a 3 and according to them can't be altered lower, only higher. I ordered the drunken noodles, one of my all-time favorite Thai dishes. It's always made a bit spicy, so when I was told this was a heat 3 dish I thought nothing of it. After the second bite my taste buds were burnt, the fur around my face matted to my skin from sweat and a constant flow of tears. If this is a 3, I would hate to experience level 5. My dining partner, played it safe and ordered Pad Thai. He thankfully let me cool my palate and taste his dinner. The Pad Thai (made as a 1) was perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. So if you find yourself in Ogunquit during the summer months and are looking for a Thai restaurant, check out So Zap. It's worth the trip, just be careful what you order, the menu is very small so there are not a lot of choices. If you're sensitive to heat, ask if the spice level can be lowered. You've been warned. What a great meal. This was our first experience with Thai cuisine and it was outstanding! We were a little worried about what our 4 and 6 year old girls would eat, but our waitress gave us excellent suggestions (steamed dumplings and fried rice with chicken) which they gobbled up. The ability to select the level of spice was perfect since most of the menu was accessible to those who prefer no heat. My wife had the the Moo Ping appetizer and the Pad Thai with chicken for her main course. Both were fresh and full of flavor. I ordered the Tom Zap soup which was nice and spicy (as noted on the menu) and had the Drunken Noodles with Shrimp as my entree. Both were amazing. Had our fill of Lobster so why not Thai. This place is fresh and amazing. I knew we were in for a good meal because every table around us kept telling the server how delicious it was. We started with each of the two soups, the Tom Zap soup with pork, They ask what spice level you desire, I cranked mine to level 4 out of 5. Mine was super spicy hot and loved it.....sweet, spicy and delicious. Tom Kha Gai soup chicken with a bit of coconut had a little spice too. For the food here is the run down.... Apps: Brussels sprouts - more like shredded sprouts and very good. GoldenBags - fluffy steamed bun with chicken a tasty bite with a nice sauce Chicken Satay - nicely grilled generous portion with peanut sauce Dinner: Drunken noodles with shrimp - nice spicy noodles in a sauce with great hints of basil and bites of shrimp - grab the tails and bite. Ka Prao Gai: nice spice again (it's a Thai thing) in a pleasant brown sauce and a side of rice to plate with first. I need to come back to try other items because this was so good. My family and I are very skeptical about finding a good Thai restaurant outside of NYC so when we travel outside of NYC, we rarely eat at one...so much to our surprise, we found the BEST Thai food restaurant in Ogunquit, ME. We started our meal with appetizers (fried chive dumplings, golden bags and Tom kha gai), then we ordered 3 entrees (beef drunken noodles, chicken pad thai and shrimp panang curry) and finished our meal with dessert (black sesame ice cream).
