On a recent visit, my wife and I were very disappointed - what happened? Soba noodle itself was good, but the toppings (shrimp tempura) were these pre-fried, pathetically thin tempuras so I had to send them back, and when they came back they were marginally crispier, but just not fresh. Hard to find a better place for cold soba. It's not a 5/5 but there is nowhere else to go if you want a heaping bowl of cold soba. If you've experienced the real deal in Japan then this is as close as it gets in this area. You will leave full and I appreciate that the noodle portion is adjustable. I usually get the set which comes with different rice dishes. We also got the tofu agashi which was decent. The okonomoyaki pancake was also pretty good. They renovated the interior so it's more spacious with more seating. There is also more parking constructed near the restaurant. Service is quick. You won't be dissatisfied eating here! read more

For the noodles just know that you will paid the same price whether you choose small, medium or the large (100 grams of soba per portion). We randomly walked in to this place after seeing their menu and seeing the activity inside and I'm glad we did. The place has around 10-15 tables and it was almost full on Friday evening. They have an extensive soba and udon set menus (the menu has photos) and everything looks so appetizing. We each got a cold soba set - their summer special fried eel set and beef and tempura set (both regular size), and also a mini pork cutlet curry to share. The noodles were cooked to a perfect tenderness and the cold soba was both refreshing yet soulful on a hot summer evening. The curry hit all the notes as well. We had to wait a little longer than usual for our food because the person who took our order forgot to put it in but our server was so accommodating and tried to get our order quick once they found out what happened. Came here on a Saturday night and it was packed! We had to wait around 20 minutes which wasn't that bad. Service- everyone was super friendly and attentive. Definitely love that. Food- everything was amazing! From the freshness of their salmon and their udon was so good! It was a cold day so their udon was on point. I want to preface this by saying if my brother wrote this review, it would definitely be five stars. He liked this place enough to come back here and take me and my family. I think for me it's a four stars but I'm splitting the difference and rounding up partially because the prices were reasonable and many things were still delicious and everything was baseline Good. Everything was yummy and what you like best is probably a matter of your personal preference (as evidenced by my family and our different favorites). The curry katsu was excellent - I love a good katsu not any old katsu and I would come here again just to have their curry katsu. The soba with the raw fish was also good and I loved how cozy the warm soba was. I am only a four for myself because I felt the soba was good but didn't blow me away, and tasted similar to noodles I had made a few weeks before eating here. I did buy them from Japan so it makes sense the quality was similar but once you know how to do it, it does feel pretty simple (and I am not an impressive chef by any means). Still! We cold soba in three different ways of serving and one hot beef soba. The noodle has a great texture and it is really an enjoyment when you chew on it. The Spring Special salad comes with two special sauces (Sesame & Wasabi dressings) that goes well with the sashimi salad and soba noodles. The Hot soba soup makes the noodles soggy and loses some of the texture. So I highly recommend that you stick with the cold soba dishes. What a great soba shop in Fort Lee! I was on the hunt for Japanese food and came across Azuma. It happened to be in the 90s today, and cold soba noodles seemed the like the perfect meal. Good soba is hard to find, but Azuma exceeded expectations. There was plenty of seating around 7:30pm, and service was very friendly. The menu is setup as noodle sets with many options - I chose the cold soba set with curry and pork cutlet. This was the perfect combo. For the same price, you can either pick 100g, 200g, or 300g of soba. It looked like most people were doing 300g, but I went with 200g and it was the perfect amount if not too much. The buckwheat noodles were very chewy - exactly how I like them. The curry and pork cutlet was the perfect mini dish with my soba. The curry was not the *best* Japanese curry I've had, but it was very very good. This really was the ideal meal for a summer evening, and an insane value for $17. I'll definitely be back. IMO, soba is much better suited for dine in than takeout, but you can do both. I've been ordering from Soba noodle Azuma and Ramen Azuma (it's sister restaurant) for some time now. This is some of the best chicken katsu you can find locally. With the order you get a full dinner tray with rice and salad and a side of soup. The chicken is a little different from the usual cutlet I'm used to; they do pieces of chicken instead (almost like karaage) but it's sooo good - well seasoned, crunchy and juicy. The panko coating is just enough but not too crumbly or messy. You really feel like you're getting your money's worth with the dinner tray. The food is always very fresh too. The miso soup was good but could be a bit more watered down as it was salty. Curry pork katsu - 4/5. The crunch was still present as the pork was placed on top of the rice rather than the curry. Good portions but the pork could be juicier and more tender. I may have stollen more of the pork off of this entree instead of my own because it just tasted better. The service was good. I visited on Sunday around 4:45 PM, which I know is an odd time for a meal, but based on our previous visits, my wife and I were really looking forward to a good experience--especially the soba/udon, katsu don, and other dishes. There were no other customers when we arrived. We placed our order, and the food came out in just 2-3 minutes. We found the speed surprising, but didn't think much of it at the time. We ordered the special udon, a regular katsu don, and a mini don katsu with curry. The udon and the mini don katsu with curry were as good as expected. However, the katsu don was noticeably below the standard we've come to expect here. It tasted as if it had been prepared earlier and reheated. The katsu wasn't hot or freshly fried, especially when compared to the mini curry katsu, which was clearly fresh. We understand that katsu don is served with dash broth with beaten egg, and we've eaten it many times, but this time the katsu itself was definitely not fresh. This was nowhere near the standard. It felt like we were served old food. We chose not to make a scene at the time, but frankly, this should never happen. Serving reheated or pre-prepared katsu is unacceptable, especially for a dish that's supposed to be fresh. Do not reuse old food. This experience was extremely disappointing, and it damages trust. You are capable of much better, and this needs to be a wake-up call to take quality seriously. read more
