The broth has good flavor, meat is tender, enough to come back again. Wish there was a little bit more in the bowl meat-wise or more then half an egg. TLDR: get the ramen and the gyudon ( beef bowl) but can avoid the gyoza. I have been coming here for my ramen fix since at least 2015. The flavors of the ramen broth are always spot on, noodles are always cooked perfectly and the chat siu (pork belly) always is a nice balance of meat and fat. The gyudon(beef bowl) is always packed with beef and flavor. Service is always great and you can tell all the customers are there to get a quick bowl of ramen and proceed with their day. It can get extremely busy during peak lunch hours. The only thing that's been consistently "bad" is the gyoza. Although they have undoubtedly perfected the outer shell and the cornstarch crisp, the filling is always extremely mushy. I am not sure why this may be the case but from a texture standpoint, it's no good for me. read more

A cute ramen chain, Menya is a small, homey restaurant that seats about 12 on tables and 4-6 at the sushi bar. Service is friendly and bathroom is relatively clean. There isn't anywhere to park besides an unmarked spot or two directly outside the restaurant though. We really enjoyed the gyoza, but the ramen (karakuchi and black) were about average. The prices are very affordable ($12-15 per bowl) and the portions filling, meaning it's an inexpensive way to have some ramen outside of the city. My large group of 9-10 people came spontaneously to this place on a week day evening. They were so accommodating and prepared a side room for us to be at. I got the tonkotsu broth was rich but not too thick, not the creamy type but still very flavorful. I was impressed by the house made noodles! It has great chewy, and not soggy. This place was nearly completely empty on the Friday night that we came here. It's a little bit separated from the main street of Fort Lee, so maybe that is why? There are two parking spaces (one handicap) in front of the restaurant, and a lot across the street. The menu is straightforward and consists of ramen, rice bowls, and a handful of appetizers. This Menya is a little small ramen join, so we had to wait a bit for a table for our party of 4. The staff was super nice and provided us with water and hot tea upon our request for both. We ordered the popular gyoza, some tonkotsu ramen, miso ramen, and black ramen. The gyoza had a nice crisp, and the black ramen I ordered for myself was very good. First you walk into the restaurant which looks really pretty but once they get you a table the table is extremely sticky and nasty like you can't even rest your arms on the table sticky it's nasty. Nice bowl of Ramen that doesn't break the bank. This staple has been around for many years, and they know how to do it right. Been a regular here since it opened and I definitely think this joint is worth the hype. The noodles are fresh and the soup is well balanced. It's not too greasy despite the pork broth. I wish they offered other toppings with the ramen but otherwise I have no complaints. The gyoza here is one of the highlights of this shop. I usually get ramen but I decided to indulge in the gyoza and I was surprised by how tender the filling was. The outside is crispy but the inside is very moist. Love the make and formula. I highly recommend you leave room to try the gyoza next time you visit. The shop is very small. I've been here once before. This place has huge portions and great quality for a reasonable price. We arrived at 11 am on the weekend and by the time we were done we were the only ones around. It seems most lunch places don't open till 11:30 in this area. This did mean we got some dedicated service. It was a very different vibe from when I've seen it most busy. The restaurant is a little house off of Main Street with some parking in the back. It has a very quaint Japanese ramen aesthetic. It was a rainy day in Fort Lee so I was expecting it to be pretty busy due but was surprised to find it empty besides one other couple. We ordered the Miso Ramen and Tonkatsu combo. The miso ramen was a flavorful and presentation wise had a lot more toppings/broth than the Tonkatsu. I know the Miso was supposed to have Sapporo but I wasn't expecting it to be super prominent as it was. The Tonkastu ramen was pretty disappointing. I felt like it tasted bland and like pork bones but without any depth and a bit of too much almost oil like taste. The noodles were too Al Dente for my liking and I was surprised that they were very skimpy with the broth. The egg was also boiled a bit too long for my liking and not as jammy or umami flavored. The pork belly was cooked extremely well though with a nice charred flavor. The combo we got with the gyoza was mid. It looks crispy but breaks apart easily and has no chew to the gyoza skin. While visiting the Hmart I wanted to try a few places from the food court. This was one of them and one of their main popular items is Tonkotsu Ramen. I've had my fair share of ramen as well as pork dishes from different countries. However, I belive I only had one spoon full of broth and was done with this Ramen. The problem was the flavor of pork, it was too strong. Generally, pork has a strong flavor which I am not a fan of, but due to manu spices generally added to pork dishes you don't taste it. In this case it was fresh pork that has been freshly cooked which dominates the whole dish. The service and the place itself was friendly and pleasant. This is only my personal opinion of the dish, again some people might like it, but as I said I only had 1 spoon full and I was done. read more

I've been to Menya a couple times and I've never been disappointed. Parking is kind of a pain despite them having a "parking lot" in the back. I wasn't expecting the broth to be that spicy, but I was pleasantly surprised by the kick of heat. It wasn't terribly spicy, I think it was just perfect. I also got extra noodles because I love noodles but I think I would've been satisfied with a normal order. I was STUFFED when I was done with my meal. The pork was tender, juicy, and extremely flavorful. The amount of fat on the pork belly was well-balanced. The vegetables in the ramen soaked up the flavor of the broth very well and they were quite tasty. I also really enjoyed the egg as it was marinated and cooked to perfection. I didn't order anything else, but I didn't have to. The portion sizes are pretty generous. The service was friendly and the establishment was quite clean. It was very tough, which is indicative of being braised for way too long. No ramen shop in Japan would survive if they served chashu the way this restaurant did. It would be similar to a sushi restaurant serving sushi with poorly seasoned rice. 2. The broth, while okay, is not substantial. It should be rich and creamy. It is certainly neither. I'm sorry but most of the reviews are extremely very exaggeration of the truth. This isn't the best ramen in fort lee. It's actually extremely disappointing and the only good thing was the pork and broth (which is the bare minimum and a must for a so called "Japanese ramen" spot. I'm half Japanese and this place wasn't good at all. In my opinion, it was probably the worst Ramen I've ever had. Not only is it a scam because they put 3-4 cups of bean sprouts, cabbage and one handful of ramen. But the ramen wasn't good at all, very starchy and not chewy. Very poor quality noodles with ok quality broth. I ordered miso ramen but it didn't taste like miso, it tasted like pure pork broth. 3/10 I also ordered the girls off but the top of the girls I was really crunchy and burnt but the bottom was extremely soggy, and the girls are kept breaking apart as you try to pick it up. Extremely disappointing and did not taste good at all. 0/10 The service was good and quick but it was also empty with 3 other customers that has already been served but the chef was coughing and making SNORTING AND SPITTING sounds which completely destroyed my appetite. The waiter was nice and attentive but i feel bad for him. 0/10 The ambience of the place was OK. It was really small. I think the ambience of the place makes the place looks better than what it taste. 5/10 At the end of the day, I would not recommend anyone coming here, and I will not be coming back to this place, because just as cheap as the food is, is as low as the quality. Had the opportunity stop by and try this local ramen joint in fort lee. We came for lunch and order one regular tonkatsu and one spicy tonkatsu ramen. The ramen was home made. This place has their own unique flavor of soup and it's not as thick as usual. The pork was very tender and they give a very generous amount. We also ordered the gyoza which was fried just right. The decor is a very small wooden Japanese ramen shop feel. I would def recommend especially when it comes to the price. Very fulfilling with a very good price!!! read more

Controversial opinion time: ramen is mid. Like nothing against it but it's only just fine. At least to me. But menya just hit different. Maybe because it's local I think the charm in its taste is in the cozy and simplistic decor. Also they take card. I'm so happy one opened up near my house because the Fort Lee location can get super busy. IMHO the best menu item is their chashu (pork) don. It's not technically ramen but I sometimes really just want something simple and non fussy. It's only about $12 so nbd. I would really recommend people make a quick lunch pit stop here for the simple rice bowl. When I order it for takeout I bring it home and I go one extra step in chopping up the chashu into tinier pieces so that I can mix it with the rice. This place has been a goto for our ramen 1) the black ramen 2) the price point, 3) the gyoza. Been to their other locations as well. Disappointed today, the egg in my ramen was cold and half boiled. That's sacrilegious. This the 1st time it wasn't cooked properly so I'll still give 4 stars. I'm guessing since I went on weekday during lunch, there's less care/precision put into it. That wouldn't fly at the ramen places in nyc. Hopefully they take note of this, otherwise I think they'll start to lose their patrons read more
