Was so pleasantly surprised by this place. Stopped in for Sunday lunch with family and ordered a few dishes to share. We started with the rock shrimp which was perfectly crispy and spicy. We also shared a few rolls specifically the spicy tuna, salmon avocado in California- spicy tuna was my favorite but all three were fresh and yummy. The Josh hand roll which is their take on a spicy scallop was incredible- I could likely eat 5 of these myself. It was so delicious we decided to try their special scallop roll which had a torched flavor - it was good but I would skip this and go for the Josh hand roll instead. Ambiance was casual- a very typical sushi restaurant in terms of the decor. Service was friendly and quick. Prices were very fair. Though we live in the Bergen County, and have heard about this place, it was our first time at Hachi Sushi in Fort Lee. We had Manager's Lunch special ($22) which includes a small udon, tempura, 3 pieces of sushi, & spicy tuna roll. A good portion for a reasonable amount of money. I had a big sushi craving - Hachi more than delivered! It's conveniently located in the same plaza as H Mart so you can pop over for a meal as soon as you're done buying all those Asian snacks. Lots of parking available and easy turn back onto the main street. We went there for an early New Year's dinner and ordered way too much (again). The prices seem on par with other sushi places in the area and a little less than if you cross the bridge but the portions and the freshness definitely stood out. My mom and my husband both ordered the Chirashi deluxe (the regular chirashi was $5 less) and we were pleasantly surprised to see it came adorned with a massive prawn, as well as uni. My sashimi deluxe had generous cuts of the more premium stuff, like fatty tuna and scallop, as well as more salmon than I could finish. The tamago, which generally feels like an afterthought for some sushi places, was my favorite piece - really fluffy and light and sweet, with visible layers. The only nit is I wish they had given some rice with the sashimi - I had to steal some rice from my mom. Also ordered the Robbie roll for the table. Really liked the combo of ingredients and, well, you can't go wrong with spicy crispy salmon and a layer of torched tuna belly on top. Overall, I think for four people who were abundantly stuffed by the end, it came out to about $160 before tip. Service was friendly and patient, even though we came at an off hour on a holiday. Have been going to Hachi Sushi for years and it's my favorite go-to in Fort Lee. About 1 year ago the restaurant was taken over by the former owners nephew. It was always solid, but now it is FANTASTIC!!!!! If you look at the reviews, everything from the last year is almost consistently 5 Stars! The new chef owner is an innovator. And while you can still order the usual and tasty classic Japanese dishes, sitting at the sushi bar is a completely different experience. The sky is the limit and you can get a real taste of his talent by letting him just make things for you. It's not a typical Omakase, because he just knows what to make for his regulars and no one is getting the same thing. Tonight I wanted something I had eaten in the Tokyo fish market before and mentioned to the chef. He made me a masterpiece meal. See below. You cannot go wrong eating at Hachi Sushi. This is my one of favorite place for sushi. This place is byob place and they have bunch of delicious foods. Sashimi is so fresh and price is very worth. It has very good selections of sushi like tuna chotoro, salmon, octopus, shrimp, egg, fluke, hamachi, white tuna, etc. Natto roll is perfect texture and flavor. It is one of my favorite roll. I go to a fair amount of omakase, nakazawa/domo domo to name a few but Hachi still stands on top, it tastes better than any sushi place I've been to. It's realllly good and always my go to place. Yesterday we were trying by to grab some sushi at a decent place in the way home. This place has decent reviews so we went with that. Walked in and it was very quiet with just one other table being served. We ordered some nigiri, kani salad, and a special roll. The kani salad was meh. It was served over some iceberg lettuce which I wish wasn't there at all. It was pretty bland and over priced. We got several different pieces of nigiri. Toro and uni being one of them. Everything was pretty good except for the Uni. We both put them in our mouths and bite down and immediately spit it out. I've never had to ever spit a piece of food let alone a piece of sushi out at a resturant. It was completely rancid. Unfortunately this absolutely ruined the night and meal for us. Uni is something we eat quite often in most sushi restaurants we frequent and have never had that experience before. Thankfully neither of us got sick. But sadly this put a bad taste in my mouth for the run of the mill sushi places. The service was also pretty terrible. For the two tables and two servers+ working it was seemingly hard to get there attention without having to call them over. Needless to say this isn't somewhere I'll be coming back to. Alas Mr. Lee is no more. Restaurant is under new management. Same menu but not the same standard we were used to. The waitress kept insisting that Mr Lee is on vacation and will be back soon. As other patrons also inquired about the new staff. Time to look for another sushi joint that's comparable to old Hachi. Not an easy task. 17 years of sushi at Mr Lee's was a long run. We order takeout from this spot all the time, and it's even better fresh in person. Highly recommend the Manager's Special and the Chirashi. Manager's special gives you a little bit of everything - sushi, salad, udon, and tempura. All their sushi is very fresh and there are sometimes good specials that come through too. Their green tea ice cream is also a nice special treat at the end, and it's the legit kind. Mr. Lee, the head chef and owner has always been working behind the sushi counter in my memory. He knows us personally as regulars, and is very friendly as well - he'll give you the specials if you ask for them at the restaurant. The mall the restaurant is in is also very convenient: there's an H-mart and also a good liquor store right across that sells a good selection of Japanese beers and sake as well. read more

They seem to be very busy on weekdays when people stop by during their work lunch breaks. The quality and freshness of the sushi is good for it's price. I recommend ordering a few pieces of each fish and a special roll or 2. $35 for the top ten sushi, 10 pieces recommended by the chef & a roll is an absolute steal. My friend and I wanted to try a new sushi spot and came across this little gem. Let me start off by saying it's BYOB !!! The indoor decor was very beautiful and gave a calm relaxing vibe. My friend got the bento dinner box with chicken teriyaki while I got the beef noodles. The chicken teriyaki was delicious just needed some rice so we decided to order a side of chicken fried rice; which was a huge portion. The beef noodles I give a 4/10. There was only a couple pieces of beef and the sauce the noodles were cooked in wasn't very appetizing to me. The speciality rolls we got were perfect.
