Was a bit apprehensive due to some reviews but I had an excellent experience with the professional, courteous staff and Dr Thiede was the nicest I could have imagined! Very personable, constantly inquiring about any pain or discomfort and even apologized at the end if I had any pain (I did not!) He definitely knew what he was doing and I'm glad my primary dentist referred him. I have Gorlin's Syndrome which causes cysts to develop in my jaw, among other symptoms. I was diagnosed in the fifth grade. Numerous doctor and specialist visits led me to Dr. Thiede and I've been blessed enough to have him as my oral surgeon for almost 15 years. If you need any type of maxillofacial procedure (wisdom teeth extractions, dental implants, etc) done, I highly recommend going to see him. Dr. Thiede played-and still plays-a pivotal role in helping me accept and overcome all of the surgeries, procedures, and doctor visits I've had. His entire office is always so welcoming and sincere, they constantly put you at ease. I have been a patient of Dr. Thiede for 12-14 years when he first put an implant for me. A few months ago I noticed that that tooth started wobbling and when I asked my regular dentist what I need to do, I was told just to wait till the implant falls out and then do a new one. I decided to go back and see Dr. Thiede. What a smart decision that was! They offered a free panoramic X-ray and Dr. Thiede said that the implant itself is good (he guarantees the quality for life, not like other doctors just 5-6 years) and if something happens he will do it for free. I just needed a new crown with a new screw. Everything was free of charge!!! It's so unbelievable, especially nowadays. The crown was ordered and installed by another Doctor in his office - Dr. Mark Ivanicki. He is a true gentleman, takes care of your coat and purse, explains every step that he is doing. Horrible experience at this office.Lady(Sharon) told me I would have to reschedule 15minutes after I had already waited in waiting room.Since i havnt filled out paperwork online which i was told nothing about.She said my number was disconnected that she called other day.I  had her call from office and my phone worked fine.She was completely rude and direspectful with me one lady said her name is Sharon.I didn't even get to meet the Doctor 1st time going and I will never be back again.That lady is sooo rude, she lets everyone else stay and fill out there paperwork there when it was my time and no one was left in waiting room she told me to go fill out in my car.After I told her I would just fill out quick there she stood up went around to door telling me in front of my teen son to leave to my car.I just left I asked other lady for number I can call to speak to someone about that lady and she said there isn't a place I can call. read more

Dr. Thiede and his staff are amazing!!! When I was in third grade I had six teeth pulled (not by Dr. Thiede) and the doctor was so mean to me! I was so scared and when I had to go in for my wisdom teeth extraction (all four and I believe the were all impacted...?) I was TERRIFIED! But Dr. Thiede and all of his staff were so kind and sweet. They distracted me by talking about my cameras with me. Dr. Thiede was super fast putting the IV in and before I knew it I was waking up in a recovery room! Obviously getting wisdom teeth taken out is never pleasant. Or fun. But with Dr. Thiede it was about as painless as it could possibly be. I was truly lucky to meet such a great doctor. I had gotten surgery for an optical floor blow out, which was really bad. He performed a grueling surgery, thankfully without any complications, and fixed it with a plate. He made sure that there was very minimal scarring and quick recovery time. I was on a bit of pain medication, but otherwise the surgical area had no pain. I must admit though, I was shocked to find out that when I went for a follow up appointment that he was a dentist as well. So many talents! Dr. Thiede and his staff are all very friendly and nice! He's a very caring doctor who will listen to all your concerns and answer all the questions you could possibly have for him. He'll explain to you the procedures that he's done and explain in great detail so you can understand clearly. I would definitely recommend this doctor to anyone else I know. His office is very well equipped, clean and organized. It's very easy to find and in a good location with lots of parking. He's very nice and funny and does excellent work and treatment. What a joke this office is... The office staff is rude and careless. They do not inform patients of costs and then surprise them with billings. Made a first office visit... waited in the waiting room over 1 hr.... the doctor saw me for 1 min and seemed to care less as I was talking, explaining my dental issue.... then received a $125 bill for what? My recent extraction of a back molar was made very comfortable by Dr. Thiede and his staff. Even gave me a very cushy blanket to keep the chill off while watching TV. I have to say I'm a difficult customer in that I am VERY hard to numb up. I told him to bring out the horse tranquilizers...he thought I was kidding. Well 45 minutes later I was totally numb and the molar came out in about 5 minutes. They give you an after-care package with after care instructions, gauze and even a little ice pack. Needed upper wisdoms yanked & the doc did it lickety-split!! Got me all numbed up, then twisted once, twisted twice, and Yank!! There goes the first 1!! Other side seemed just as easy. I was beyond nervous walking in, basically shaking when I was bein prepped, then it was over & done with in 7 minutes, start to finish. Now, he says he's 'very good at what he does' & I believe that BUT Y'know that saying 'if it's too good to be true, then it probably isn't.' However, my teeth haven't grown back & the overall post-op pain & discomfort really wasn't all that bad. I wonder to myself 'this guy pulled my wisdom teeth out with a tooth-wrench, but It doesn't feel like they were torn out- can it be so, or am I just trippin?' Cmon, just tell me I'm trippin, cuz It can't be! The Operation also came with a goodie bag treasure trove, complete w an ice pack for swelling, extra cottons/gauze, post-op care instructions & your pulled-teeth, if u so choose to take them as a 'souvenir.' Oh ya, u also get Lindsey, a super-cute medical assistant with a gorgeous smile helping dr. Thiede during the procedure. Overall, it was quite a pleasant experience. The price was also something to brag about, apparently- I'd heard of wisdom tooth extractions that cost upwards of $1,300-$1,500 for one & I got BOTH the uppers w local anesthetic for $652. Hands down the best oral surgeon in OC. Not only are the staff super friendly and responsive, Dr. Thiede was able to extract my tooth quickly and with no pain. I appreciated him for checking several times with me to make sure I was numb before he yanked the tooth out. And since I had a cracked root, my dentist said that when the tooth was removed, it might impact my sinuses as well. Well, Dr. Thiede was able to take it out and it didn't hit my sinuses at all. He also found a cyst the size of a jelly bean which wasn't apparent in my previous xrays with my dentist. No wonder I was in so much pain before. Honestly I'm not a big fan of going to the Dentist.. But, I have had all four of my wisdom teeth coming out and I've been in really bad pain for the past couple months. I finally said the hell with it came here, got a consultation, and all four removed the next day. This has been by far the best experience in my life. I went to Dr. Thiede on an ER basis and a second time on a non ER basis for a difficult extraction. I can tell you I wouldn't go to any other other oral surgeon, and I have Sjogrens which decays one's mouth like readily. His staff was kind as I prattled on which I do when nervous...and boy! Was I nervous! Very very little pain, took just a few Norco, but nothing like I've experienced in the past with many extraxtions. I did have IV sedation, and this doctor can find any vein with little discomfort...I highly recommend it. Only wish he had stopped for a second after surgery to assure me all was well. read more

I went to Dr. Thiede in December of 2013 when I had to have my wisdom teeth removed. Let me first say that I am absolutely PETRIFIED of doctors/hospitals/etc because of the whole needle thing, and I was in hysterics at the mere thought of going in for a simple consultation. Dr. Thiede was very patient and understanding. He listened to my fears and did his best to calm me. When the actual extraction day came, he was really great. He prescribed me a single dose of some anti-anxiety medication that I barely remember taking, and gassed me before putting the needle in my arm so that I wouldn't really know it was happening. I obviously don't know what happened during the surgery, but my mom said that it all went perfectly, and he didn't have to break the wisdom teeth into pieces to take them out. He gave me a super helpful little bundle of recovery goodies to take home - an ice/hot pack to help with jaw pain, some clove gel to help minimize discomfort, and a syringe to rinse with saltwater. I didn't get any dry sockets and it all went great! read more

After suffering an abscess on the root of a molar, Dr. Lin in Tustin did a partial root canal on the molar w/the abscess. The inability to eat, close teeth together, sleep, function at all, for 3 days/nights occurred, Dr. Thiede was contacted. The tooth had to be extracted. Dr. Thiede was extremely caring, explained in detail how the extraction was to be carried out, as well options given of Novocain or put to sleep for the procedure, Novacain was administered. The immediate relief, the open communication with the procedure throughout, plus office assistant, Melissa, was way above the call of duty. Wish I could give negative stars. This place has a rude woman working front desk. My dentist referred me to them on an emergency. Listen to girl at my dentist call and tell them I needed a consultation on an extraction that was done wrong. I get there and fill paperwork out and then meet with an assistant who gets information. 10 mins later the lady comes in and says I was dishonest on the phone with them and that lied. I never spoke to them. She then tells me they can't see me and help me. Are you kidding me. A cash patient and they don't wanna help me? Let me start off by saying that, if you have any common sense, getting any type of surgery even if it's not as major as getting wisdom teeth removed, there are still things that can go wrong with surgery.. Such as if you get your wisdom tooth removed surgically, and the surgeon so much as cuts the wrong tissue or too close to another tissue in your mouth, you can have your mouth permanently locked and will be forced to live life eating through a tube... So as I mentioned before, anyone who is in their right mind, they would find the doctor they feel most comfortable with and has a lot of confidence in... Before choosing Dr DD, I have previously gone to 6 different oral surgeon offices until my dentist referred me to Dr DD. Dr DD was my 7th Oral Surgery office I've visited and do not regret. The reason why I'm giving Dr DD 4/5 stars is based on my first encounter with the office. Upon the day of my consultation, I was kind of rudely greeted to by the receptionist when I first walked into the office. But when I mentioned to her that I had a scheduled appointment to see Dr DD for my consultation about removing my wisdom teeth, she quickly changed her demeanor. I was then abled to sign in and wait to meet my oral surgeon. To be honest, I thought Dr DD was a girl until I read the entire business card. After I met Dr DD, all my concerns and major amount of anxiety of going under anesthetics and sometimes not being able to wake up or possibly not being able to eat food regularly all went away! The good thing about this office is that Dr DD does take Medi-Cal. Although my insurance took 6 months to approve for my bottom wisdom teeth to be pulled, I wanted to get over with the pain and get all four removed at the same time. In addition to my insurance only paying for half of my surgery, I did pay the other half out of pocket. Usually to remove all four wisdom teeth range anywhere from 600 dollars to even 2000 dollars depending on the seriousness of your case. Luckily because of my living status and current financial situation, the office financial manager was able to work out the rest of the payment and she was another perk that made me feel better about staying with Dr DD to remove all four wisdom teeth. I ended up only paying half of my surgery that my insurance was paying for and honestly am super glad that I went through with my surgery here at this office. The day of my surgery, I was greeted and did not wait more than five minutes to enter the room where I was given the injected anesthesia. All I remember is laying on the bed and watching an episode of CSI: Miami and by the time I woke up, I looked like a chipmunk.. The embarrassing part is that also when I woke up, I could not feel my face and therefore not really remembering what happened prior, I began to burst into tears, I was a little delusional after the surgery and felt like a fool when I finally came to my senses. During my healing process, Dr DD did call me the following day to see how I was holding up, as any professional would do and anyone with any common sense, and reminded me that if my healing process is too severe, he can prescribe me a higher muscle relaxer such as narcos. (I barely took any muscle relaxer medication because the pain wasn't as severe as the first day. I also believe I stopped taking the Vicodin by the third day.) Overall review of the office: Clean and modernized Front office staff is nice but can sometimes rub off on you the wrong way. Lunch ladies who take calls are rude so don't call during their lunch hours. Dr DD is probably the best oral surgeon that I've been too and I do send my friends his way to get their wisdoms teeth removed! read more

I went in to get my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Thiede about two months ago. I appreciated that the doctor was on time for both my initial exam, as well as on the day of surgery. Dr. Thiede was warm and I only remember feeling as though I trusted his ability to do a great job during the initial exam, and I am now happy to report that my mouth is all healed up! I would love to have given my experience with him five stars if it weren't for two major mishaps. 1. The amount of hydrocodone I was prescribed. I had pain the first two days after surgery. Never unbearable pain (which is a testament to how scrupulous he is during surgery!), but true pain, enough to use a highly addictive and potentially harmful narcotic that leads to addiction and death in hundreds of thousands of people in this country every year. With that said, Dr. Thiede prescribed FIFTEEN TIMES the amount of medication I needed in order to heal completely pain-free. It's a good thing my mom is a nurse because his office gave me very little instruction in regards to literally taking opium, and I can easily imagine other patients (who may not be blessed with vigilant moms) taking these pills needlessly with horrific consequences. I even asked my pharmacist for fewer pills and she said that it would, "take an hour to redo the prescription and it costs the same anyway." I'm pretty confused and dismayed at how casually this went over when there are news reports being published every day about the escalating opioid epidemic in our society. And also the crushing cost of our healthcare because of doctors overprescribing medication, but that's a separate point lol. At best, Dr. Thiede is careless when it comes to prescribing potentially dangerous medication. At worst, he could be putting his patients at serious risk. 2. The office staff and some of the nurses here are wildly incompetent. I neatly wrote down my insurance information on the intake form and the woman working at the front desk misspelled my name, my street name and my mother's name. I understand mistakes, and I corrected her on all three errors before my insurance was billed. Upon returning to the office for the second time, my information was still incorrect. Again, I corrected her (same person) and asked for documentation with the correct spelling of my name, address and mom's name. After printing out my bill for the second time, my first name was still spelled incorrectly. Lol. A second woman took over after quite a bit of back-and-forth, and finally my information was all correct. Not to mention the fact that the girls that work in this office are super catty. The same woman that made all of the mistakes was openly making fun of another patient who was asking where the bathroom is. I also noticed that the nurses need better training. One nurse left Dr. Thiede's personal calendar on the monitor while I was waiting to see him, for which she was scolded (in front of me) by the doctor. Another nurse came in to the exam room while I was speaking with Dr. Thiede about my surgery, interrupted, and complained and asked questions about a patient in another room for about three minutes. I gave the doctor a look after the nurse left and he apologized for his lack of professionalism in scolding and gossiping with his staff in front of me lol. The doctor was ok, but these people make his office seem like a circus. Anyway, three stars. One taken away for overprescribing opioids. The other for poorly trained office staff. read more

Dr. Thiede's "chair-side" demeanor is excellent, he cares about his patients and their fears and helps to sooth those fears through his kind professionalism.
