Went to OC Smiles on Friday 3/13/26 for a loose implant because my dentist is closed on Fridays. Helena was great and the only good thing i will have to say about my experience. I didn't need a diagnosis, since I told the dentist that my implant was loose. He decided to take a ct scan, charge me for it and charge me for his false "diagnosis." $290 later.. he told me I need a New crown and wanted me to pay $2900 to return for 2 more visits to "fix" it. I Declined his outrageous treatment plan, knowing my implant was just loose. I waited until Monday with no problems and went to my dentist Dr. John Vartanian (Newport Beach) who did the implant for me. He tightened the screw and I was out of there in 10 minutes for free. I believe SoCal Smiles owes me $290 back for their unnecessary scan and incorrect diagnosis. They were trying to sell me something I didn't need and I'm quite upset about how this was handled when I brought it to their attention. I would go elsewhere and not trust this place with your time or money. read more

KINDEST DENTIST OFFICE EVER!! Let me preface this by saying I have had a crippling fear of the dentist my entire life, to the point where I cry as an adult at the idea of having to go. I have now had two cleanings here and a separate appointment for a filling. Every single employee there, reception, hygienists, and the dentists, are all SO NICE. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. They are incredibly accommodating to scheduling and don't have insane waiting periods. Moral of the story, I no longer cry and although I still dread the dentist (who doesn't), I don't fear it. I have been coming to SoCal Smiles Dentistry for years now so this review has certainly been earned. Typically, I have my teeth cleaned here (shout out to my favorite hygienist Shelli for being so gentle!) and sometimes a few cavities are filled when warranted. Dr. Moniaga ('Dr. M' for short) always does a fantastic job. It doesn't hurt when he numbs my mouth and I never feel anything while he's working on correcting my dental issues. He's so calm and very good at what he does. I am lucky he is my dentist! Of course, the other very important part of any medical office is the front office staff. They are always so nice and pleasant on the phone, via text, or by email. I like that I can use all three methods of communication depending on what I need. I never feel anxious or worried about the care I will receive because I know I'm in excellent hands. That is a blessing, especially when it comes to dentistry. read more

Finding a new dentist is hard and scary since there are some weird and/or unprofessional facilities out there. My friend recommended SoCal Smiles Dentistry after I told them my dentist woes and I am forever thankful. The moment I walk in I hear ABBA playing which was awesome. I have never walked into an office and experienced such an upbeat vibe. I love that they switch around music to make the environment more fun for the patients and the staff! Everyone I encounter (front desk, dental hygienist, dentist) is friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and great at explaining whatever is needed. I already knew I needed a mouth guard coming in, but no one used scare tactics or pressure to try to get me to use their products or do more than necessary. Partly for this reason (but mainly because I feel safe in their hands), I decided to get one through them- the process was fast and easy from the molding to the pick-up and fit check. I would highly recommend Dr. Moniaga and his staff if you are looking for a dentist! I've been going to him for ~2 years. Dr. Moniaga is very professional, kind, and caring. I had an old cavity open up again during lockdown and I was able to schedule an appointment with him and get it filled! Unfortunately during COVID my hours at work were cut to part time, and he was kind enough to give me a discount! I would also recommend dental hygienist Katrina (I believe that was her name) as she does a very thorough job cleaning your teeth. Eunice and Megan at the front desk are also very friendly and help you with any rescheduling issues right away. Unfortunately I ended up changing dentists due to the distance but if I had dental insurance I would definitely go to him again! Socal smiles is the place to go! Dr. Moniaga and his staff were so accommodating. I had a sporadic discovery of inflammation in my gum and he was able to fit me in the next day. Talk about fast and great service! I received a consultation and had imaging done and they were able to get a treatment plan figured out right away. I love this dentist office! I only started coming earlier this year because my fiancé knows one of the dentists very well. The office is so cute and clean!! I love walking in and just feeling joy. Which is funny because I have always been scared of the dentist office LOL Katrina has cleaned my teeth on both visits and she is the sweetest! She cleans my teeth so well and is very gentle. She is also very knowledgeable and will tell me what to do to maintain my clean teeth. All the employees are very sweet, even the front desk folks. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a smile and everyone is so welcoming! I don't have dental insurance but prices are very affordable, so just an FYI for anyone in the same boat as me. I'm writing this review based on how satisfied I am with my root canal and crown. These dentists are the best! The dentist discovered that one of my teeth were dead and I needed a root canal and crown. This made me very nervous since I have a fear of pain and oral surgeries.. aren't we all.. but they made the procedure painless, easy and comfortable! It was one of the easiest and most relaxing things I've done. The end result of the root canal and crown was perfect! The crown fit well and is my favorite tooth in my mouth. 5 star review for the AMAZING customer service I received from Sharon and Sumeet. I just have to say how much I hate HMO and since this is my first time with a Dental HMO Plan, it's been rather difficult as the original dentist I have seen for so many years does not actually accept my insurance anymore. I had to wait an entire month to be transferred to Socal Smiles only to be told at the beginning of the month that they no longer accept HMO. (Technically, there is ONE general dentist who still accepts HMO, but if you need an endodontist like I do then they would refer you to a nearby facility.) Despite all the hiccups and problems, they were able to refer me to a dental office that did accept my insurance so that I could be seen as quickly as possible. Very few places out there would go through such lengths to ensure that I was taken care of and SoCal Smiles did just that. I had several pleasant experiences here until it all turned bad... and stayed bad until I changed dental offices all together. They pulled a tooth I didn't actually need pulled. They charged me double and never refunded me. I showed up for two different scheduled appointments to be told, they weren't actually able to see me then. Bad news! Dentist is a sales guy and a scam artist. He will try to extract the most out of you and your insurance. I went here after looking it up on Yelp and saw the good reviews. I now doubt if the good reviews are paid somehow. I went for a toothache due to an infected tooth that had root canal done about 10 years back. Doctor gave me medications for pain and asked me to come next day at 7 am to get the root canal done again! Also, he asked me to get a cleaning done that very day. He tried pitching me how him and me can maximize my insurance since the amount gets reset every April and how he can make 2 charges to maximize it. This guy is a scam artist. Avoid him and go to a real dentist! I hop his business gets shut down. I will also be reporting him to the bureau so that they can look deeper into his insurance scams. read more

I went to my first appointment this morning and couldn't be happier! The experience was even better than my old dentist. Had to downgrade my review, but to a 2 star instead of a 1 star, since I did have some good experience and service here. As a regular customer here for a couple years, I brought my Dad in here for a 2nd opinion as he was told he was going to lose one of his upper teeth, since it was too far gone. Dr. S said he could "save" the tooth if my Dad got a root canal. Since my Dad didn't have insurance, we spent $1000 out of pocket for the root canal. Sure enough, the procedure didn't save the tooth. And it actually made it worse, as his entire right side was swollen and in pain due to an infection. We ended up having to extract the tooth and take antibiotics. After telling him we were upset about the whole thing, Dr. S did refund us a portion of the cost. I understand mistakes happen, but at this point, I began to have my doubts. So I read some of the negative reviews on Yelp and there were reviews about his office committing insurance fraud. I went back and looked at some of the past claims and EOB's (Explanation of Benefits) on my account, and sure enough, there were things that the office billed for that I never had done. I had pretty good insurance through my company, so I didn't pay anything out of pocket for these billed items. But that's still shady to me. I understand there's people out there who view the insurance companies as the big, bad guys. And they deserve to get money taken from them. But for me, it's an ethics/integrity issue. I politely brought it up to Dr. S. I didn't accuse of him of anything, just showed him the EOB and told him I don't remember getting these done. He said he already contacted the insurance to clear it up, but it never got cleared. I was no longer comfortable with a dentist who conducted business in this manner, so I ended up finding another dentist. I write this review not as any sort of retaliation, as Dr. S is a nice guy and his staff has been nothing but courteous to me, but to inform the public. No matter who your dentist or doctor is, make sure you check your claims and EOB's. read more

We switch dentist over to So Cal Dentistry for 1 1/2 year ago...... and suddenly we need to replace some of our crowns?..... my wife believe the dentist so she have got 4 crowns replace because it was urgently!... I was told I need 1 crown and 2 days before my appointment I call the clinic and ask if there was any co-pay beside my insurance and they told me I have to pay $500?.... then I call my old dentist and they said I was total covered by my insurance.... Call back to So Cal And told them I use to be total covered.... They would check and call back.... Got a call back from the dentist and was told I was total covered my my insurance..... I'm not going back to them again..... I'm. Or that naive.... Bad business.... read more
