They are always getting new things in - if you don't see something you like, just ask! The staff knows plants and are really eager to help. I found most of the prices really reasonable. They do have some tropicals and rarer plants, which are beautiful but waaaay out of this plant newb's wheelhouse. But if I can find something easy to care for, anybody can. Whatever your level of plant-pertise, you will find something that fits perfectly into your collection!

A friend, my BFF who lives out in Connecticut wanted to send me a gift certificate to a local nursery as a house warming gift. Researching on-line, she decided to just send me a check for the amount instead, because she did not know which one, I would prefer. I had no idea myself and that is why my cousin stepped in and helped. The day we decided to go shopping, Mother Nature decided to rain that day. We didn't let that stop us. I wore a raincoat, she carried an umbrella and we dodged rain puddles, as we went from greenhouse to greenhouse selecting plants in a yellow and orange theme. I had four huge planters that I moved over from STL, waiting to be put to good use at my new home. I was impressed with the variety and selection of plants available and most of all, I was thrilled with the prices. Shopping at a country nursery made my dollars go a lot further than shopping at a big city one. The associates working that day were helpful and they got a good laugh at my cousin and I having so much fun shopping in the rain. Before I left with my treasures, I got to meet the young man who recently purchased the nursery. I like his vision and entrepreneur spirit. While they historically focused just on hostas and hellebores, they look to have expanded their inventory to include a variety of other plants this season. The hellebores were out of season during my recent spring visit, but the hosta selection was incredible. I brought home four new plants: two stunning, blue-green 'Halcyon' and two crisp, white-edge 'Patriot' hostas. The retail operation recently moved three minutes down the road from the original property (which is now a display garden) to a historical 1920s brick schoolhouse. The retail plants are housed in a massive greenhouse on-site. They are still organizing the inventory by hosta size, but it's already mostly easy to navigate and a blast to explore. The customer service is low-key but knowledgable. I initially didn't realize the woman working was an employee since she was dressed in a college hoodie, but she turned out to be very helpful and knowledgeable about the varieties. My family has gone to The Plant Stand every year on Mother's Day. This year, we bought trees --…read morewhich, unfortunately, are now dying. Today, my 70-year-old mother went in to ask the owner for advice and see what could be done. Instead of offering any help, he was rude and dismissive. Then, when my mom made a sweet, light comment -- saying, "God's been watering the plants a little extra this year" -- he actually mocked her faith and ridiculed her relationship with God. That wasn't just bad customer service -- it was cruel, uncalled for, and incredibly disrespectful. I was shocked. She didn't deserve that, and no customer ever should. They've lost more than a sale -- they've lost loyal, long-term customers who have supported them year after year. From now on, we'll be shopping at Joe's Market Basket, where customers are valued and treated with the respect they deserve.

Being in need, I headed to the nursery that I shopped when I did my spring landscaping. To my surprise, they were out of hanging baskets. The owner who was assisting me, recommended, The Plant Stand. We shared a laugh when I told him they were the closest to my house, but I drove the distance to support him again. He appreciated my loyalty, but thought I'd find what I needed at TPS. I thanked him and started my drive back home. Now let me tell you why I haven't shopped TPS when it is the closest one to my home. It simple is, presentation. It is right on the main drag through Godfrey and it just has never been appealing enough to get me to stop by. I found a hanging basket that meet my needs and will get me through fall. I actually wanted 3, but settled on just one for the front entrance. TPS did have an average selection of plants, some of them were marked down for late season clearance. Shopping up close, I could see why it did not look appealing from the road. Many of their plants were in need of TLC. When selling plants, the dead foliage needs to be picked off, so the plants appear perky and beautiful. Many of the plants were in need of attention to make them buyer friendly. The lady working was pleasant enough and the price of my hanging basket was a good value. Appearance is everything when it comes to buying live plants. Went to Colors of Spring to get some extra landscaping rocks. The worker wasn't sure if the rocks…read morewere for sale so she made a call to I assume the owner. They cut me an incredible deal on the rocks. I ended up paying about 1/3 of what I was expecting to pay. The workers were super nice. They were inside having a great time telling jokes, and just loving their time at work. I do not know much about gardening, but the plant selection seemed to be pretty extensive. Incredibly grateful to the folks over at Colors of Spring for hooking me up and being such a good time. Great folks, great customer service.

I always drive by Colors of Spring and notice the beautiful plants outside (when they're open). We went together to pick them out, and loved the different varieties that they offered. We parked on Fyler for street parking, and walked in the back. Lots of different areas to look and choose from. I'm the furthest from a plant pro, so I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what I saw. However; they looked well taken care of and of good quality. There were also a large variety on the outside of the front of the shop on Watson. We found a couple we liked to check out and the staff member working explained to my mom how to properly take care of her choices- water amount, sunlight amount. It was a quick and easy experience, I would definitely go back to find more in the future!
