Truthfully I believe they deserve a 4.5 star rating but since that isn't an option I'm going to err on the positive side. I went to have my snowboards waxed and they charge a whopping $20. Most places even on the mountain only charge $15. When I picked up the boards I couldn't believe how great of a job they did. It was the best board wax I have ever had. Was it worth $20? Maybe. They also said they'd heat mould your boots for free. I just paid $50 at Footloose in mammoth and it didn't help at all. The reason for the 1/2 star deduction is because my wife went in there for boots and the guy told me she is regular foot, not goofy foot. I'm certain my wife had something to do with this. Anyhow the guy calls me and tells me she's regular foot. I know for a fact she isn't. I've seen her ride, she's left handed etc. I went ahead and switch her whole setup to regular foot. We went to the snow and she couldn't ride or even make it to the lift. I had to switch everything back at the slopes. read more

I went to SoCal Surf Shop the first time to get my snowboard serviced after several years of it being in storage. I was blown away by the shop! I was assisted immediately, the shop was great with tons of options, the tune-up on my board was well done, quick, and really fairly priced. The shop has a TON of winter stuff and will be my local go to place from now on for winter gear. They knew the name of everyone that came into the shop.... including me on my pick up visit.... which blew me away to be recognized after one visit previously. Wow! Spoke with Elizabeth on the phone. Right when I asked my question, she already knew who I was as I did an order online (talk about great customer experience). I told her that I had some concerns on my shipping since I needed it by Thursday at the latest and I did grounds shipping (I live in SF and figured that it would come fairly soon since we're close by). She told me that she would provide me updates on what the status was and was really transparent with her answers. Not only was she transparent, but she was really sweet and personable. Coming from out of town I stopped in looking for some swimsuits. They had a big selection of suits along with many other things I feel in love with! Normally shops like this can be over priced but not this one! Very very fair prices with a big unique selection. Not to mention the man working was very kind and helpful! We decided to stop here to pick up a couple of body boards before we headed to the beach for the day. The girl there was very helpful and friendly. She wasn't overbearing but was was always available to answer any questions and had good suggestions for what we were looking for. The shop had a great selection of clothing too. Rad snowboard shop right here in our little village by the sea! I can't believe i didn't know about Paul's San Clemente SoCal shop! What a gem. Our snowboards were old and used; needing wax and a major tune up. Paul delivered expert service that was quick and reasonably priced. Elizabeth, his wife greets you with a welcome smile and makes the process pleasant and easy. I brought my boys over and Paul gave them great advice; spending time teaching them about their equipment and techniques to use for their first snowboarding experience (Paul was a pro snowboarder and Olympic coach!). Who does this anymore?! This is a family establishment that combines all the right things: great work ethic, high standards, expertise and kindness. I just want to say that SoCal Surf shop is amazing , it's more than a surf shop . The owners Paul and Elizabeth Durant are amazing people , their attention to detail and community is what makes this local shop we have in Talega / San Clemente amazing . They care and they truly go out of their way and beyond measures , from helping my son to figure out on his own but with help and patients and teach him to put his board together to giving my daughter a layaway program so that I could make her earn something she wanted , and even beyond measures yesterday my car died in front of their shop they helped jump my car keep my kids in a cold air conditioning store went out of their way to give me a ride to pick up another car while AAA came the list goes on . They are such great people , and they take pride In their store and they are very attentive to all their customers needs and always have the best stuff stocked up and are always willing to order whatever you need. They have wonderful customer service - Paul is always willing to teach me or my kids about the right equipment and safety when it comes to action sports . It is nothing less than a blessing that Paul and Elizabeth moved their shop to Talega a few years back. Every review about customer service, product knowledge and skill is spot on, but also important is the sense of community you feel when you visit. Kids coming and going demo'ing boards is a regular sight while young men and women are employed and taught the right way to run a business and interact with people. After school or on Saturdays, it is not uncommon to see kids hanging out and watching a surf or snowboard video after picking up a bar of wax or some sunblock. Lest you think this was all about taking care of already coddled suburban rich kids, know that Paul has employed former Marines as they transition from service into their next lives. I have watched him teach them skills from accounting, sales, to tuning and waxing boards under a demanding yet compassionate eye. All tangible and translatable skills to bridge the gap between enlistment and school or other occupation that is critical to keeping our former service members on the right track. I think the world of Paul and Elizabeth and suggest you swing by for a visit. Remember, if you don't see something, potentially because it is 'out of season,'just ask! I thought all snow shops were dead in south OC but then found this place in Yelp when looking for waxing/tuning services. Had no idea this shop existed and was right here in San Clemente. Not only are Paul and Elizabeth super nice, Paul knows his stuff when it comes to snowboards. I went there for a tune and wax only but was impressed with their selection of snow and skate gear. Best shop ever - nothing but hardcore gear for skate, surf and snow. I got a new Lib Skate Banana earlier this year, and Paul help set me up on the best snowboard ever - he knew just what size, shape and bindings to fit my riding and sasquatch sized feet. Everyone that works there knows their stuff and are super helpful on what the best options are. Can't say enough good things. He was extremely rude, he was also rude to kids who were buying their first skateboards, I heard him say that it was a waste of 2 boards, and that if they wanted to waste supplies then to go to walmart.
