The pasta was very oily. The flavor was good but too much oil. The seafood was good and the pasta seemed fresh. If it wasn't in the hotel i would have eaten somewhere else. Pricey too. read more

went there tonight with my husband and best friend for drinks. The service was god awful. Our server went home in the middle of our service and did not inform us. As a result he did not put in the food we had ordered. He was replaced by another server after we asked for the status of our food. It took about a hour plus to get a flat bread pizza. NOT ONCE were ever asked for refills on our drinks or how the food was. Not to mention we had to send a drink back because of an insect swimming in the $18 cocktail. Never even offered dessert. As hotel bar/restaurants go, this was really great! I had the burrata and then the grilled octopus. The burrata was better than expected - the menu merely said "roasted" tomatoes but it was a caprese type chunky sauce that went beautifully with the crunchy on the outside but chewy on the inside bread. The octopus was grilled perfectly but the menu didn't mention that the roasted chickpeas were in a curry sauce. I'm not a fan of curry - thankfully it was lightly applied and only on the chickpeas. I was able to enjoy the octopus and pickled onions and the two or 3 bits of fennel. Overall, the service, food and people watching were worth the trip downstairs. read more

I stayed at this hotel in the same building. I loved it. The restaurant had a nice variety of dishes. I actually ate here majority of my stay in DC. The pasta was originally with shrimp but I substitute it with chicken, I had the small portion as well. Next I had the Caesar salad as an entree with chicken added and it was honestly the best Cesar salad I have ever had. I also had there fries while I was tipsy at the bar enjoying March madness. Visited 9/18 around 8pm with wife Space: Not busy. The bar was half full and a couple seated tables. Ambient lighting changes often throughout the night. Water glasses on table were dirty and asked for them be changed before drinking water. Food: Good! I enjoyed the 60-day old fashioned drink. You can definitely taste the smoke infusion. Frito Misto appetizer is a good portion to share with another. Calamari and shrimp were fried, not too oily and tender. Spaghetti Carbonara was delicious. Half portion is a good size with plenty of bacon and lots of parmesan cheese. Shrimp fettuccine was good as well. We got two desserts, one by waiters misktake. Triple chocolate cake is very rich. Torta de nonna is a custard-type pie with pine nuts. Not bad but not amazing. Vanilla flavor custard was good but needed more raspberry sauce and pine nuts added interesting crunch/texture. Service: Ehh. Host was quick to seat us, but didn't smile at all. Waiter (JR, i think) was nice but seemed new or inexperienced. He couldn't describe the desserts well and got the order wrong. Ordered the salmon medium-well for $25. It came with beans and fennel. Not a fan of neither beans nor fennel so substituted for spinach. The salmon was RAW in the middle and NOT MEDIUM-WELL. Totally gross! Didn't eat the salmon, but bar tender charged me anyway. I only ate the spinach. Also ordered a Caesar salad and it was really salty, but I was so hungry so I ate this. Front desk hotel staff gave me a $20 credit because I'm a Marriott Ambassador. Ordered the BBQ Chicken Flat Bread. Bar tender delivered to me. The chicken was rubbery and weird texture. The bottom of flat bread needed to be cooked more as was soggy. There was also so much BBQ sauce. I was starving, and pulled chicken off and tried to eat, but totally gross after trying to eat four bites. STAY AWAY AS THIS RESTAURANT NEEDS NEW COOKS AS TOTALLY DISGUSTING !!! read more

Disappointed! Walked 32 miles barefoot and destitute from room to visit on-site restaurant. Hubby was hungry, I'm thirsty and when we arrived to location, we were told kitchen' s been closed since 11:30pm, Bar closes at 12am... It was 11:52pm when I asked for my pineapple and rum and was informed I could order a white wine or some beer as a courtesy because the bar is closed. Couldn't make out name on name tag but the gentleman was middle aged, short bald headed w a fair complexion. I'm so disappointed and definitely expected more considering this restaurant is located within a popular Marriott establishment! On a brighter side, the place is freaking gorgeous! I'm updating my review of Socci now that I've been there more times and have tried the happy hour, but it's still three stars. Happy hour has good drink specials, which is a rarity in this area and the larger DC area in general. It's from 5-7pm, but I'm unclear on the days. During happy hour, drafts are $2, and I'm told they're good drafts, though I'm not a beer drinker myself. They have a decent red house wine and a white house wine that I haven't tried for $5. Rail cocktails are $4. The happy hour food specials are generally fried, really unhealthy, and cheesy, but good if you're in the mood for that. Most of them are $4. They don't have any entrees on special for happy hour, but their entrees are reasonably priced and usually pretty good, though never mindblowing. My favorite thing I've tried there is the flatiron steak salad, and the pastas are a good backup. I haven't been impressed with the sandwiches. Given how much I enjoy the happy hour and how often I end up there, I would easily give it four stars if not for one thing: They are extremely sketchy about what days they have happy hour. The menu (which I've uploaded a photo of) says it's open for happy hour 5-7 pm daily, which strongly suggests it's on all days. However, when I came on a Saturday, the bartender was really rude and didn't give us the happy hour menu. We asked for it specifically, and he said it's only on weekdays. I heard him have the same interaction with another couple, so they obviously also expected it to be on weekends. If it's on weekdays, they should change the menu to say that. If it is daily, which the menu says it is, the management needs to make sure all the bartenders honor that. read more

We had a great experience tonight at SOCCi. There is a private room in the back which is perfect for about 10 people. We enjoyed an incredible meal starting with appetizers (tempura seafood and vegetables and their meatballs). We could hardly stop eating before the salads arrived. I ordered the apple and Gorgonzola salad with fresh spring greens and candied walnuts. It was great and I could've stopped there and been satisfied, but I'm glad I didn't! I had the penne with pesto and salmon which was absolutely delicious. The pesto is quite oily, but it was still a beautiful and tasty dish. I got to try the seafood fettuccine which was probably my favorite of the night. I don't do a whole lot of heavy dairy sauce, but this was much lighter and the noodles were cooked to perfection. I also got to try one of their pizzas which was really good. I wouldn't necessarily put the pizza up with the best that I've ever had, but it really was a nice addition to our meal. The presentation of the food was absolutely wonderful. My compliments to the chefs for taking pride in their work. It is quite pricey all things considered but I would certainly go back. The service was good. Our server was very polite, but it was clearly a busy night and she had a little trouble keeping up. Having said that, I would definitely go back again. read more

Finally had some real food here, and they were decent for the prices. I tried two different kinds of pizza, which were more like flatbreads actually. Three Little Pigs pizza was good, and the pork belly topping was deliciously fattening (lol). Hummingbird Farms Tomatoes pizza wasn't as good but still decent. Cheap happy hour drinks ($4 draft beer). Very clean, modern, and spacious interior, though service is a bit slow. Popular happy hour spot with my co-workers, though not my type personally, as the bar is too "glamour" looking (but it's part of a hotel, so I can't blame that.). read more

Dined in last night 11/15 about 9pm. The restaurant is mainly hotel guests: business people. SOCCi is advertised as a modern Italian restaurant, emphasis on very modern. Most of the interior is white tables, and then there's color changing lights aswell as music. The music turns off around 10, so right when the restaurant will close. But the music is on the louder side. Many groups having drinks not dinner. It was relatively busy. There was about 3 servers and 2 bartenders working the bar. Not the best service I've ever experienced. Not the worst. But keep in mind, the hotel is a 4 star premium Marriott property. Wait time for food was pretty average. Caesar salad came at 9:23 and our entrées at 9:38. The small Caesar salad is about $10. It's a good portion and tasted as such, my boyfriend really loved it. I thought the lettuce was a little soggy. For our main dishes, my boyfriend ordered the three little pigs flatbread and I had the Penne Bolognese. The flatbread was AMAZING, it had a sweet taste to it, cheese was great aswell as the meat and crust was crunchy. My pasta was a good size portion for the small, bolognese sauce was not something I've had before but still really good. Only thing I did not like too much was the pieces of sausage.. It was still delicious. Now for dessert we had seen another table order a Strawberry shortcake so we wanted to try it was OK, nothing special. The strawberries and purée were good, cream wasn't too sweet plus theres just way too much of it. The vanilla cake itself was not as moist as it should be. Went for dinner while staying at the Residence Inn. There was a sign for the matre'd stand, and I stood there for a minute or two but nobody came to seat me. No problem, I was flying solo so just grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly, gave me a menu immediately and came back after just a couple minutes to get my order. I had a half Caesar salad and half spaghetti. Both were okay, the salad dressing wasn't anything special and was a little saltier than I like. The spaghetti was similarly fine, but not great. The sauce was again a bit overly salty for my taste, and didn't have much other flavor. Overall, it's okay for a quick meal if you're staying at one of the nearby hotels, but don't go out of your way to eat here. read more

This is a cool spot in the Renaissance Hotel. My friend and I had lunch here yesterday and it was quite the venue. The space is attractive and the service was good. I had the sausage pizza which is perfect for one person and was pretty tasty. The Calamari includes fried lemons (wasn't a fan), shrimp, and green beans and comes with two sauces. I don't know what I can say about the brunch buffet here that Hue K. didn't already mention. It's a phenomenal deal for $18! It's not heavy on the meats; bacon and sausage are your only options. I loved that I could make myself a bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers as a starter. Get a poached egg; they are made perfectly. The fresh fruit is just that. No real desserts, but the spiced bread (in the muffin bin) was very tasty and the tea served in a pot with a small pitcher of cream is a nice touch. I'd come back for breakfast again. The atmosphere is nice and the service is very good at checking in on you and clearing your plates many times over. No HH special on food but $4 beer and wine special was good. Food was reasonably priced so HH special doesn't seem to be needed. - Ricotta 'Al forno' was huge. It came out hot in a big skillet pan with tasty thin grilled bread. It doesn't have much seasoning but goes well with wine or beer. - Pizza: It was more like a flat bread packed with well balanced flavorful toppings. Good to share as appetizer. - Brunch (breakfast) buffet: for $18, you get ready-made hot items like scrambled egg, bacon/ham, potatoes and oatmeal/grits and toast/muffin/croissant/bagel and cold items including yogurt, fresh berries, smoked salmon and cereals. You can also order eggs-anyway you want and waffle (ask for whipping cream. you get freshly whipped cream). All items seem freshly made and well seasoned. Having poached egg on bagel with side of toast and fresh orange juice and coffee would easily go over $18, so it seems to be a great deal. All beverages are included. Coffee comes with french press. I came in here at 7 pm one night after I finished work late only to discover that they now have a happy hour but it lasts from 5-7 pm. That night, it did NOT matter because I was hungry. I had a super-light early lunch in hopes of getting out of the office on time and getting to a real happy hour. And at the time, I was famished. So I sidled up to the bar and ordered up. An order of the meatballs and a quartino of the cabby. Nothing fills a famished g-lady like some old-Nana's secret, hand-patted beef, pork, and veal meat balls balls balls. Mmmmm mmmm mm. Slide over a side of bread and it's on. Finally the grumbles were satiated. The quartino of cabby helped both wash it down and ease the mind. So. On this umpteenth visit to SOCCi, I would like to upgrade my yelp to FIVE stars and let everybody know that the happy hour is as good as it gets. read more

This place is better than I expected, given its location in a hotel. SOCCi is a modern, open restaurant in the corner of the Renaissance Hotel in Crystal City. It's definitely a hotel restaurant - opens into the lobby, has a ton of travelers - but is otherwise a pretty cool looking place. The food here is good but not mind-blowing. The Frito Misto is essentially fried calamari and rock shrimp which, while not what I expected, was pretty good all the same. The Tuscan Kale & Shrimp Salad was absolutely excellent. Chaotic service and the food can be hit or miss. The atmosphere of this place is really nice, I especially liked the more lounge-y and relaxed tables as a cool place for a casual dinner and conversation with some friends. The restaurant was really busy, but I would expect hotel restaurants to be used to large groups given that weddings and conferences regularly take place at hotels. Service was a disaster. Food was extremely slow coming out of the kitchen (over 2.5 hours). Regarding the wait staff, I really don't know how to best describe it, but it was terrible, too the point it might as well have been non existent. No waiters seemed to be assigned to particular tables and everyone seemed to be hiding inside the kitchen. It was a true disaster. The food is best described as hit or miss. The menu is a combination of traditional Italian and Italian-American with some more experimental dishes. The osso buco was a really large portion and tender. The description included gremolata, but it was just garnished with bare raw parsley. The risotto Milanese was not badly cooked, but a stray from classic and too distracted by too many vegetables. The cioppino was just not right. It was lacking in acidity, richness, and the overall goodness found in the original SF-Italian incarnation. I love cioppino, and I feel sad at the idea this could be someone's first time trying it. The arancini were not bad, though the portion was surprisingly small compared to the other dishes. The fried appetizer platter could have used some more squid. The desserts were perhaps my favorite. The cannoli were a really large portion and very tasty. The tiramisu was not bad either, I enjoyed it. The panna cotta was probably the weakest of the three desserts I tried. It lacked its characteristic giggly-ness and the Nutella-orange combination didn't quite do it for me. If you come to SOCCi make sure you are not hungry or in a rush, definitely don't come if it is busy. read more

Started with an order of calamari, even for two of us it was almost too large to be an appetizer. But it was perfectly cooked and the aioli that was served along side it was flavorful. The breading on the calamari had a nice mixture of salt and pepper and while my dining companion felt that the tomato dipping sauce was a bit sweet, I felt that it balanced the saltiness of the breading. For our main course we split the mushroom pizza and a full order of the clams casino pasta. I would have preferred more mushrooms and less saltiness to the pizza but the crust was nicely baked and I would order it again. The pasta in the clams casino dish was perfectly al dente and I have no complaints about the way the clams were cooked. On the other hand, I found the peppers (red and yellow) to be a bit too sweet and the bacon, while a lovely thick cut, was a tad too peppery for the dish. All the food we had was good. The country bruschetta- Arugula, Poached Egg, Asiago, Prosciutto was so good. I woke up thinking about it. The pizza and pasta were both pretty good. I would get the pizza again. The restaurant staff was really nice and accommodating. Just a few things to note: - Parking is $6/hr - Went on a Saturday for dinner at it was pretty quiet. If you are looking for a place to meet a lot of people and mingle, this is not the restaurant for you. - The desserts are just right and not too sweet. I was actually in the area for some meetings and as expected... my boss loves convenience... so we ate at the Renaissance's restaurant Socci... which he indicated to me he had a breakfast meeting there earlier in the day. I don't typically like to judge a restaurant on its service... but seriously I was there for a late lunch and I think we saw our server only three times... to take our order, bring our order and then our check... I didn't even get a refill of water... which I was down to the ice. I may also have some distaste because I asked what our waitress recommended between the Lamb Ragu or the Garganelli. Her response to me was it depends what you have a taste for and proceeded to tell me she doesn't like lamb so she suggested the Garganelli. I get it not everyone likes everything but if you are a server ask your coworkers what it's like and and take a poll so you can provide a better response to your customers. Anyway, her response didn't convince me to get the Garganelli so I went with the Lamb Ragu. The Lamb Ragu was surprisingly pretty tasty... I was a little shocked that there was a raw cage free egg yolk that tipped the dish... the menu did indicate a "cage free yolk", I guess I totally missed it and didn't think it was going to be raw... as there were other asterisks within the menu indicating the "raw food borne illness" message , but surprisingly the Ragu did not have the indicator. I am pregnant so I did take the chance in eating it... I'm happy to say I survived. It was actually a really tasty dish... the tagliatelle pasta was cooked al dente, the lamb was really flavorful and moist. I thought the tomatoes were interesting but surprisingly they were pretty flavorful too. I would suggest the lunch portion... as that was more than enough food and almost half the price. The mint, ricotta and pecorino Romano added good flavor... though be mindful once this concoction is mixed up with the lamb and raw yolk it may look like raw shredded meat balls so as far as look-wise it may not look that appetizing. My boss got the chicken and sprouts pizza, he seemed like he enjoyed it since he finished it all. It isn't he typical round pizza looks like a flatbread appetizer side so be mindful of that if you order pizza. Today we went back to Socci for a breakfast meeting... there were four of us and we all got the breakfast buffet. I didn't get the omelet but our guests really enjoyed their omelet made at the omelet station. I got a Belgian waffle which was really good... perfect crispness/softness and salty/sweet. Their fruit bar area was really nice as well... all the fruit were super fresh. There was also smoked salmon. They had the typical eggs and sausage (they had stachowski's sausage... honestly nothing special at all... I actually didn't like it... the turkey sausage was a smidge better but I would eat the bacon and skip sausage if I were you). They did provide a complimentary smoothie which was tasty... but I'm not a big smoothie/juice drinker so I was indifferent. Our guests enjoyed it though:) Can't say it was the best hotel restaurant experience or food that I've ever had... but not great either. These are the times I wish there were half stars. read more

This place I feel like has so much potential but in need of a manager to be on site at all times and if there is a manager on site . In need of a leader and someone with a different approach . Those meatballs are EVERYTHING!!!!! Loved them! They were sitting in a yogurt type sauce, red onions and a bit not fennel. You only get 4 or 5 meatballs but they're a pretty good size and packed with so much flavor. I also had the salad with gala apple slices, cheese and candied walnuts. Best combination ever. This place is located inside the lobby of the Renaissance Arlington hotel and pretty trendy. The restaurant/ bar is gorgeous with high ceilings and beautiful colors to light up the place. While you're sitting waiting on your food, try out the bar and order the chips and dip. They are kettle potato chips with a dipping sauce of what seems to be green pesto and a 2ND dip with grilled onions and cream. So delish! Going to try and order again the next time I visit! read more
