Those meatballs are EVERYTHING!!!!! Loved them! They were sitting in a yogurt type sauce, red onions and a bit not fennel. You only get 4 or 5 meatballs but they're a pretty good size and packed with so much flavor. I also had the salad with gala apple slices, cheese and candied walnuts. Best combination ever. This place is located inside the lobby of the Renaissance Arlington hotel and pretty trendy. The restaurant/ bar is gorgeous with high ceilings and beautiful colors to light up the place. While you're sitting waiting on your food, try out the bar and order the chips and dip. They are kettle potato chips with a dipping sauce of what seems to be green pesto and a 2ND dip with grilled onions and cream. So delish! Very underwhelming experience. Came here with some coworkers and thought it was going to be a good lunch. The waitstaff was slow and inattentive. The main reason we went there was because my coworker was craving some good spaghetti. We checked out their menu online before making the trek there to make sure they served it. When we went to order, spaghetti was nowhere to be found on their menu. We asked why and he told us that we were given an express menu since it was 'busy'. It certainly wasn't busy at all! I would say there were 15 guests in their huge dining area. Anyways, the waiter made an attempt to get the chef to accommodate us. We were seated right in front of their kitchen and heard the chef rudely tell him that she refused to accommodate us. She copped and attitude and gave us the death stare. Really?! For spaghetti in a freaking Italian restaurant??!! Customer service must not be her priority. Fortunately the manager had some sense of customer service and made sure my coworker was happy. He said the spaghetti was bland and cold so I guess all the fuss was for nothing. I had the shrimp scampi pizza which was disappointing. Not much flavor to it. Wouldn't recommend this place. This place is definitely one of the better hotel restaurants I've eaten at in my travels. The entrees are a little pricy but everything else is pretty reasonable. The first night I got the frito mito Which was a calamari appetizer platter and it was perfectly breaded and fried. I also got the penne Bolognese which definitely hit the spot. The next day I went back for lunch and got the burrata and added roasted tomatoes and basil. It did not disappoint. The fries with garlic and herbs was also one of the better orders of fries I've had in a while. Bartender Michael was friendly and attentive. I had a wonderful meal here on a recent trip to DC, when I needed to stay near the airport for an early flight the next morning. I ate well, the wine was good, the service - while it was a busy night - didn't miss a beat. My water stayed full - my wine glass, too! I had the carrot and lentil salad, which was larger and heartier than I expected for the small size. It was the perfect introduction to my main course, a grilled salmon on a bed of roasted eggplant and (more!) lentils, with a roasted pepper relish on top. The salmon was fresh and cooked to perfection, crisply seared on top and bottom. The price is on the higher side, but not high compared to the rest of DC. My check (including a delicious creme brulée cheesecake and two mid-priced glasses of cab) was around $65. I would definitely come back, and you can't beat how convenient it is to just head downstairs to the restaurant! Also, a shoutout to the manager who came to check in on me twice, even though I was a solo diner, and definitely wasn't spending a ton of time/money here. Really enjoyed my experience. I will give this place a one star at best if it is not for Fatushe - the lady who helped me. I will give a 5 star her alone. My initial experience with this place was horrible. My table server disappeared after I told her I need a minute to look at the menu. Then no body came to take my order for around half an hour with me seating there. Finally, Fatushe came over and helped me while she was busying serving a business party table. She is just an amazing person, super friendly, patient and kind. And she knows everything. I would highly recommend her to anyone who would like to try this place. Food in general is great, big thumbs up to Burrata and Gala apple & Walnut salad. Amazing. I happened to get stuck in Crystal City the day of a snowstorm, and this was right near the hotel I was staying at. Everything I tried was fresh and delicious. The ribolita soup was flavorful, made with local vegetables. It is meant to be a bread dipping soup, and is the perfect consistency for that. The grilled bread they serve with it is lightly grilled, just enough to hold up to the soup without getting soggy. I had the mini arancini (rice balls) with a side of fresh tomato sauce for dipping. I asked for a side of cheese to sprinkle in the sauce. It was delicious. Freshly grated off the block, no powder. Dessert and cappuccino did not disappoint, either. Dined here last night and was blown away. Chef Danny is the man! We had a good variety of items on the menu. We had the burrata, grilled octopus, chicken pesto pizza, apple salad, meatballs and some drinks to start out with. Sensational. For our entree we had the rib eye which was butter soft and cooked perfectly. Carbonara and seafood linguine was the best I ever had. We finished our amazing meal with some dessert trios. The whole experience was top notch. Service was amazing, the inside of the restaurant was beautiful with modern contemporary design. The staff was extremely courteous and I especially loved the open kitchen to see the chefs at work. Will be back soon hopefully during my next visit to dc! read more

I decided to come here for dinner the other night because I would always walk by it and see its beautiful décor and exciting-looking atmosphere.... I should probably have just stayed at the door. I dined here when this restaurant was brand new, so I should have realized there would be some difficulties. But, after having drinks spilled twice right next to our table, and after we had an oversalted pizza and "homemade" pasta that tasted like it had been under a heatlamp, I came to realize that this restaurant would have a long ways to go before it becomes one of my favorite spots. All in all, I think this place has potential down the road, but the management needs to work out the kinks first. It's a fun atmosphere, but even the color-changing LED lights above your head become annoying after a while. Perhaps they should just tone it down a bit and realize it's a restaurant not a nightclub. read more

I have 3 nights at this hotel, and I will probably not eat here again. 5 minutes later: My sandwich has finally arrived and the bread is burnt. I've done it. I've found the DC area's best happy hour. Well, the best happy hour for beer drinkers. In Arlington. Or maybe just Crystal City. The best happy hour that is also a 2 minute walk from my apartment...? Ok, so Socci might not have the best happy hour overall, but it's pretty solid, and if you're a beer drinker, this is paradise. From 5-7pm at the bar on weekdays, they have $2 draft beers! Yes, you read that correctly. $2 beers. Really. In Arlington! $2 BEERS!!!! They only have 6 beers on tap, but they had a couple of really nice selections to go along with the watery fizzy crap. I went for the Port City Monumental IPA. It felt like I had been transported to another universe. $2 for good draft beers??? All you beer lovers out there should now understand my overwhelming urge to use hyperbole to describe this happy hour. I feel like I'm going to wake up and this Socci happy hour is going to have been a wonderful dream. Quick, drink all the beers before they change their mind! They also have $5 house red and white, $4ish rail drinks, and a few small plates for $4 each as part of the happy hour. The small plates are fine bar bites, but nothing special. I ordered tater tots and the mini calzone. The tots are just the frozen ore-ida stuff with pepper, cheese, and a spicy marinara (their "diablo" sauce). The mini calzone was pretty good but it was a major grease bomb. The homemade chips and dip are only 99 cents, so I'll have to try those next time. They also have a pretty decent breakfast with what is possibly the most amazing bowl of grits I've ever had. Add the poached egg and thank me later. The breakfast buffet is standard stuff that has been out for few hours under heat lamps, so steer clear of that and order off the menu. Lunch and dinner are not bad but nothing special. It's the happy hour that will bring me back here, if I have not made that clear yet. read more

My husband and I just got back from our first experience at SOCCi, and I can honestly say that this was one of the best evenings we have had in the pentagon city/crystal city area. The food was fantastic (please try the dairy egg pizza, it was the best pizza I have ever had) and was SUPER fresh. The service was extraordinary- our waiter was prompt but didn't hover, and Adam (executive chef) was extremely kind, gracious, and attentive. Not to mention the atmosphere. This together was over $20 but the portion size was more like that of a side salad and same thing with the added salmon piece. The salad itself tasted fine, but not what you'd expect from a mid-range dining place. The dirty martini was fine but again not great. The food is decent, it's a fancy Italian menu which - I might just not be fancy enough for as I had to ask what several things were. I got the white bean dip and the chopped salad. The white bean dip was hummus and warm pita bread - which wasn't what I was expecting but it was delicious. Also the chopped salad was okay. I got a tiramisu to go, which was superb - but if you make a bad tiramisu you shouldn't be running a restaurant. I sit at the bar each time I go and have found all of the bartenders to be very pleasant and attentive. I've been here twice and never again. Great atmosphere and drink specials. The food is good but nothing really exceptional. The service is INCOMPETENT. Whether it is not bringing menus, understanding orders, or getting the check right. Every time I've gone they have been incapable of providing basic service. The hostess makes eye contact with me three times after we sit down, a group of five coworkers, and I still I find myself having to get menus myself for the table after 5 minutes. Another thing, cocktail rail drinks are on the happy hour, but they also have a manhattan on their regular cocktail list done with a good non happy hour bourbon and a little vermouth. "I would like a manhattan with a rail bourbon under the happy hour if you can." "We can't do a manhattan on happy hour." "How about a rail bourbon with a little vermouth then?" "Ok." And yes it was then on the happy hour. It's the same thing!!! There is a pretty bad language barrier honestly, but that doesn't excuse getting the check wrong or not checking up on the table for long periods of time. Here's what I like: 1) The food. I haven't had a ton of menu items here. In fact, I usually tend towards a flatbread - usually the sweet sausage - and I think it's awesome. 2) The decor. The style of this hotel bar is pretty sweet. I really like the bar, the lighting fixtures, and the sitting areas that surround the bar and the restaurant. Here's what I don't like: 1) The wine list. I know wine, and I know what it costs. So I know a bargain when I see one, and there isn't a single bargain on this list. Most glasses are $12 and above with quartinos coming in at $17 and up. Que ridiculo. 2) The draughts. I don't know why hotel bars can't figure this out. There is no reason to have six lagers on draft. Mix it up. Get a porter, a stout, a Belgian ale, an IPA. 3) The TVs. When you're seated at the bar, the pendant light fixtures that hang over the bar block your view of the TVs. So, if you're hoping to watch a game while having dinner, your view will be obstructed. read more

But, the service is good (they are always great about splitting checks) and fast with the food. Angus burger was terrible. Dry meat with little flavor, too much bread, shitty chunk of iceberg lettuce, one thick slice of tomato (what are you really suppose to do with that?). Pizza is really tasty. Great crust. Big portion. Sausage is a bit spicy... I had an excellent Caesar salad, with shrimp. But, I don't think it was worth the hefty price tag. Chicken panini was really good. I was satisfied with half and took the rest home in their compostable to go containers (awesome). Potato chips are an excellent deal. Came here for a business dinner and was totally impressed both with the decor (don't forget to look up at the ceiling!) and the food and service. Had a delicious Little Gem Lettuces salad (no clue why it's called that but it's delicious and just the right size) and for the entree had roasted salmon, also just right and served with a grilled fennel plant! Dessert was a delish tiramisu with the cup of expresso on the side so you don't need to order coffee. My companions had the NY steak, the seafood pasta and lobster ravioli. Everyone said said their food was great. Our host had ordered a New Zealand pinot noir that was a great accompaniment to our meals. The decor is terrific and because it's new and in the Renaissance hotel, totally wheelchair accessible. Noise level was a bit loud though due to all the hard surfaces. read more

For a hotel restaurant that has a meeting/conference area, I would expect them to be accustomed to busy times especially on the weekend and especially when conferences are scheduled well in advance. First, I adore this hotel. After several stays I must confess, the ONLY reason I eat here is because it is more convenient than wandering off site to a restaurant. When I have a car or am with others, we just walk to another restaurant. I would get the pizza again. The restaurant staff was really nice and accommodating. Just a few things to note: - Parking is $6/hr - Went on a Saturday for dinner at it was pretty quiet. If you are looking for a place to meet a lot of people and mingle, this is not the restaurant for you. - The desserts are just right and not too sweet.
