I really enjoyed my experience here. The host, the waitress and the guy helping with cigars were all very nice and helpful. We smoked cigars and had drinks. I have a flight of whiskey -- I wanted to try so different types of whiskey and the waitress recommended some very good options. This location also has a restaurant unlike the Grosse Point location. There's not many cigar bars like this one. I come here usually during Christmas holiday season to meet up with my brother and a few good friends. It's very busy and they don't take reservations so be prepared to wait for a table. They have a decent craft beer selection (draft and bottle) along with a top-of-the line cocktail bar options. My brothers, cousin, and I went to the cigar room to make our selections. Given that I have only smoked a cigar once previously, I asked the staff member in there for recommendations based on my preference. I settled on Tatiana Honey and Groovy Blue. Since we were patrons at the time of our selections, our server scanned them and added them to our bill. The salad was good. My meal was completely on season. The mashed potatoes were bland, the asparagus had no cheese or seasoning of any kind, and the steak was bland. Glad to order the zip sauce. Good cut of meat, but when you go out and pay the prices that they charge for a good steak, you expect the steak to be prepared with some expertise. Just left a wedding and was not interested in eating there because it was buffet style. I was nervous due to Covid concerns and lack of masks at the wedding so we decided to stop here. A friend invited my wife and I to join her and a few other friends at Churchhill to celebrate her birthday. Our party started out as eight people they go to 12 management accommodated by providing the second table and then explain to us that everyone's food would be on one bill with 20% gratuity. We said no problem. the party grew by six more individuals who grabbed a separate table as they arrived, management, then came out and told them they would not be served because they were holding the tables for possible future guests, and they did not provide service to such a large group. I asked why not just give them a different server? Management responded with a hard no! Then I asked the manager for his name. He says his name is Zach, I explained to him that I have observed this establishment bend over backwards for larger groups than what we had. ive been patronizing Churchill's for over 15 years. I also explained to Zack that I considered this to be very racist considering our entire group was all black individuals , I said that he did not care that $2500-$3000 was walking out of the door because he did not want to provide us with an additional waiter or waitress. Then Zach proceeded to call the police and tell the police that we were threatening, and he felt that his life was in danger, when all we did was pay our bill and leave, but we did complain loudly. Churchill's reminded me of a trendy spot in New York. I was definitely transported to somewhere other than boring Michigan. This establishment is definitely not a lounge...it's not laid back at all. On last night, it was a buzz. The energy in that place was through the roof. The noise level was a tad overwhelming. I thoroughly enjoyed people watching though and even chatting with other patrons. I arrived about 8:30 pm and realized I didn't have enough change for the last 30 minutes of the paid parking meter hours. I ran in and asked for a table and also for change for the meter. The host staff was very accommodating, gave me change and held my table while I went out. I thought that was super cool because, the restaurant was packed with several people waiting. I brought my own cigars with me, so I didn't go over to the humidor, but it looked amazing. It was sizable and I could see a wall of cool looking pipes. The ventilation was good, the air was pretty high, so much so that I was cold. Not uncomfortably however. I ordered the Perfect Peach martini. I enjoyed it. I had starved myself all day in anticipation for a good meal. I had been told that the food there was exceptional. I had also been lusting at the foodie pics they post on IG. I selected crab stuffed mushrooms and steak bites. Both dishes were great. The mushrooms were served in a cream sauce that was a great accompaniment. The steak bites were perfectly medium and were quality beef. The steak was paired with sauteed spinach and onions in a zip sauce. I ate and ate until I was stuffed and pleased. Yet another win for Churchill's last night. The whole experience was so enjoyable we were hoping we'd get snowed in and have to spend the night. Of course we had to start with my beloved oysters, which are always top-notch here. She knew the menu and recommended the fried green tomatoes and it was soooooo good. We asked for her to choose our entree and when we got the crab stuffed Salmon it was cooked perfectly! Five star! My only complaint is it gets very busy by 5 o'clock so I have to arrive a little early to get a good table. But I guess that's the price of success. Been here twice now and the service has always been excellent. Greeted and always sat right away you can make your way to the humidor to pick out your own cigar. They have a large selection and someone is typically in there if you have questions. You then take your cigar and sit back down and your server will come by to cut an light it. The vibe is great and even being a cigar lounge the air isn't stagnant and smokey. I heard they pump fresh air every 3 minutes to help with the smoke. Great wine list and they make a great martini with blue cheese stuffed olives :) Don't just come for cigars and drinks because the food is great as well.
