Unfortunately, I was unable to apply for a Medicare number online (an otherwise very easy thing to do) and was instructed to call the main number for Social Security Administration. After a long wait, I was then told I needed to go into my local SS office which is in Hemet. I first called this office directly as I am at a distance, to double-check about the need to come in and to see if there was anything I needed to bring with me. I called and the gentleman at the Hemet office said to come in any time 9AM-4PM with just my ID. I made the 40 minute drive and was initially thrilled to discover that there weren't many people waiting inside. The officer at the door directed me to the check-in window where I waited about 15-20 minutes. So far so good! Right in front of me was an elderly woman wheeling a gigantic oxygen tank and having problems just getting to the window. As she explained her problem, it was obvious that this was not the first time she had come in to that office to deal with it. I felt so sorry for her being told she needed to come back again the next morning because the clerk who could help her wasn't in. My husband was able to get his number online in about 5 minutes, so my turn comes and I'm confident this will be easy. My first issue in general is that the clerk asked for my SSN. As there were many people nearby who could probably hear me, I say it softly. She couldn't hear me clearly through the glass and asked me to repeat. So much for privacy issues... Anyway, I explain why I am there and am told there is only one person in their office who can do this, she isn't in, AND "she doesn't work much"! I'm told I need to make an appointment 2 months out! What?! I tell the clerk that I actually called this very office before coming in and spoke to another clerk who is probably within the sound of my voice right here, and he told me to come in anytime! How could he not know that the ONE person who can help me (I told him exactly what I needed) is not in and only deals with people through appointments? She simply shrugged her shoulders and said they're really busy. Note: as you can see from my pictures, most of the service windows were empty. Hmmm, I think I now understand why the office is nearly empty! Once you finally get up to one of the few manned windows, you're told you need to make an appointment or come back when that one magical person is actually working. The only positive in this review is that there is lots of parking. But this office gets a big ZERO for communication, lack of privacy in having to speak your SSN, and customer service.

Lobby expect a wait even with an appt a month in advance

Does anyone out there have a local telephone number for the Social Security office located in Hemet California?

It's (800) 772-1213. Walking in is the best way. By phone, you will listen to repetitive tunes for a long time. Might as well wait for Jesus to come.

How do I get a copy of my pension award letter?

I believe you have to go in for that. The first line next to appointments, when your called up just tell the window attendant that you need an award letter. Make sure you have ID and social security card. They should print it out. If you have an…

The lady volunteer told me it's a civil issue and then proceeds to give me a list of places to go to. Each place told me they don't do that there and that the Hemet officers need to stop referring people to them. I went back and was given another paper with another address and number which was also no help. Waste of my time. Disgrace to the force and community. They only care if money can be made. They are just traffic stoppers. Somebody breaks into your house, breaks your mailbox or anything to your property. They will not help you. That's because 98% of that department doesn't live in Hemet. They live in Marietta, Temecula and other cities. If they lived in Hemet I believe they would care a little bit more about their town because in other cities. If you want to be a police officer and let's say New York, you have to live in New York to be a police officer in New York. That's why our town is going bad. They don't care about Hemet. They don't care if homeless people roaming around people's businesses breaking into people's houses so they don't care officer Fisher is one of them doesn't care and I guarantee you he doesn't live in Hemet and when you do call the police from Hemet they take like a half an hour even to get here even if it's an emergency and we are paying them our tax money. The supervisor I spoke with was argumentative, dismissive, and did not appear interested in hearing both sides of the situation before forming a conclusion. During our conversation, I expressed concern about her tone and communication style, as I also have supervisory experience and understand the importance of professionalism when dealing with the public. Instead of addressing my concerns, she repeatedly talked over me, prevented me from fully explaining the situation, and ultimately ended the call by hanging up on me. I found this behavior unprofessional and unacceptable for someone in a supervisory position. I am requesting that this interaction be reviewed and that appropriate action be taken.

The staff member who answered refused to provide an email address, would not take down the information, and was dismissive. When I asked to file a complaint, she hung up on me. I called again and was told I needed to go through dispatch, but was routed back to the front desk. I ultimately located an email online and I hope that it will be properly received and reviewed. This has given me a clear indicator on how people are missing and slip through the cracks and the part law enforcement plays. After recent cases with Emmanual and Celeste I'd think PD would be taking these claims a little more serious. (Incident #I252590042) In summary: I do not believe she has been located, and I believe her mother has given false and conflicting information to both her friends and law enforcement. I urge that this matter be taken seriously and that follow-up action with proof of life be considered .
